It’s like: "Everything in my life is total shit, so I’ll go to war. If I get killed - great!" (remember that russian men have the highest suicide rate in the world.) "And if I survive, well, at least I’ll get some money, I can drink, and it’s a change of pace." In 90% of cases, it’s exactly these two factors: pseudo-patriotic idiocy combined with personal despair. And current russian realities, especially in the provinces, are highly conducive to despair, which is why, up until now, they’ve managed to recruit several tens of thousands of such fools every month. They also use deception and coercion, though I suspect that accounts for a smaller share.
