Notice it's for women, not obesity in general, and the cause is islam, unironically. Not that it would preach to overfeed your women, but culturally, there are limitations to keep the calories out. Gyms and sports? Limited options for women. And if there are options, well, hijab isn't really that great for exercise. Employment? Men work. Women sit at home, leading to less burnt calories and more snacking in the kitchen. Also, hospitality culture, it would be rude to refuse offered food. Ideal for men who enjoy architecture.

You go the med ME countries like Lebanon, and you suddenly see far less fat asses, because of their med style diet full of salads, and fresh veggies.

It's gotta be partly because of genetics, east asian populations were historically fed on high starch rice while west asians had to eat grains with less starch, and also had more nomads living off animal husbandry.The mongols were mostly nomads throughout history and now a lot of their urban population is obese.
