Different ethnicities, different religions, different political views, poor vs poor, the rich stay rich.

Capital.
It works like a corporation, pursue perpetual growth and motivated by nothing but greed.

Unironically: privacy, cultural silos, and the internet.
If we all espoused our every view in every environment, we'd kill each other. Most people go about their day only discussing politics with friends and quietly distancing themselves from political radicals of other sides who seem like they need to know your politics.
If you go somewhere that's a den of radicals in the opposite political wing, and you're not dressed like them, the animosity is palpable. But most people stay away from those environments like they would stay away from a bad neighborhood.
The real tension in modern politics isn't people having vastly different ideas of morality, it's that social standards of not talking politics with strangers and not expecting to have the right to know someone's politics have weakened, especially on one side of the aisle. A lot of lefties can't hang with someone who isn't of their ideology. Conservatives on the other hand, might at worst suggest you're gay if you're liberal.

money, anon. As soon as this country turns into china or whatever other third world dump, everyone will bail.
I just slopped down two containers of limited edition buffalo wild wings pringles. Name one other country in the world where I can do that without having the local kommissar breathing down my neck for gluttony and misusing precious resources.

I don't know man. I've actually grown to hate this country. It doesn't even let you have the basics anymore. Can't afford groceries, can't afford housing, let's everyone and their brother come in for cheap labor, why should I care for it again? At least the Great Depression was seen as a shared thing.

If any burgers really do hate their country to the point of disgust, join us.
FREE and INDEPENDENT are not words solely backed by the threat of violence.
Making friends, being nice, is more efficient.

Literally just force or the threat of force from law enforcement/military. Thats the only thing keeping this country together.

Backstabbing doesn't prepare you for a fight and that's all the realm is now: backstabbing and scheming and arse-licking and money-grubbing. Sometimes I don't know what holds it together.
Cersei Lannister:
Our marriage. [both burst out laughing]
Robert Baratheon:
So, here we sit, 17 years later, holding it all together. Don't you get tired?
Cersei Lannister:
Every day.
Robert Baratheon:
How long can hate hold a thing together?
Cersei Lannister:
Well, 17 years is quite a long time.
Robert Baratheon:
[raises glass] Yes, it is.

The entire point of getting people invested into politics or other distractions is to demonize and avert violence against those with resources and influence, by outsourcing that primal competition to non-violent proxies and thus complacency through belief in those things holds us together. We could end it all tomorrow by shaming and punishing complacency, while engaging in mass violence but to do that one must also destroy comfort among the masses to encourage violence in them. That situation will foster the formation of organic diametrically-opposed groups, which they can build trust in that will then fight and assume power.

The digital medium really provided such a boost to people with performative mentalities, it installed a layer of insulation between people to make body language irrelevant and that void allowed for disingenuity.
