what the fuck are they doing
watch real wrestling

wtf kind of camera angle was the first 15 seconds? Why would anyone wants to see a wide shot of the crowd while the action is going on.

Another day
Another e-drone melty
>>
>>20568021
Tony was just so happy to actually have fans for once

Another day
Another AEWtist having a melty because people are laughing at AEW
>>
>>20568001
Athletically it looks great, but in context of prowrestling it is so stupid. All of the modern companies push this crap, but it draws no new fans. Casuals will look at this and say, "Hey, that looked pretty cool." and then move on to something else. There is nothing for the casual viewer to invest time into to watch. He already saw what he would assume is the peak of what he could see. There is no pay off and there is no new fan to watch the product. The sooner these spot monkey worshippers in control of these companies understand that, the better.
>>
>>20568001
what's the story?
>>
>>20568001
you e-drones would say this was the greatest thing ever if it happened in one of your e-slop shows
>>
>>20568076
no it would turn me off of watching
>>
>>20568069
why do you want things to appeal to casuals?
>>
>>20568079
oh, I forgot, e-drones don't watch for entertaining spots, you all tune in for the yeets
>>
>>20568010
Not sometimes but always. A well timed punch in a built up storyline is so much more important that a super suicidal plancha into a super hurricanrana into barbwire could ever be.
>>
>>20568087
exactly, casuals ruin wrestling.
i watch wrestling so i can be entertained. i don't give a shit how entertaining it is to people who don't like it in the first place.
e-drones just care about liking what everyone else likes, they're the quintessential npcs of the wrestling world
>>
>>20568087
I wouldn't care, but if I owned a wrestling company backed by billionaires who actually want to produce a profit, I would want to actually draw a bigger audience outside of the usual ROH type of crowd.
>>
>>20568103
Yeah, so for you as a fan it shouldn't really be a concern.
>>20568092

KWAB
But I agree. I watch shit to get entertained, not to think that it should actually be changed to appeal to a wider audience. I don't give a shit. I care about my own entertainment only

>KWAB
Never thought it could happen to me. :(
>>
>>20568112
But I'm not a fan anymore. There is nothing worth watching these days. If I wanted flips I would watch the olympics. That crap is boring, just like modern wrestling.

You don't build a great product by producing something that's watered down and carefully formulated to appeal to people who don't care about your thing in the first place. Even WWF wasn't built on that. It embraces it now because it's got its audience locked in and is focused on getting every advertisement dollar it can for them, but their numbers are shrinking not growing.
No, you build a great product by catering to what existing fans want and making it as good as possible, while hopefully keeping expenses low enough so you can continue to do it. And maybe AEW doesn't always do a great job on the "expenses" end but it's a moot question because Tony's got billions to burn through and is learning as he goes.
You create something unique and awesome and people eventually will want to tune in. You don't bring it to their level, you raise it to a level where it stokes their interest.
AEW isn't all flippy shit, that's just the stuff that gets posted on social media by detractors. Most of it is pretty decent wrestling. Maybe not the same as the old days but it's a lot more athletic (and less hyper steroid based) than then.
>>
>>20568139
>Most of it is pretty decent wrestling.
Say what you will but in AEW matches often end without using the finisher, the matches don't have long ass commercial breaks where nothing happens, you often get 15-20 minute matches on weekly shows and those matches are not just using one move and then selling for 5 minutes. Do botches happen? Sure, like 1-2 a match but if you take it into consideration that it's actual long matches where they perform a lot of moves the percentage of botch per move is not very high.
>>
>>20568164
Exactly. It's watchable. And I say that as someone who's hated on it quite a bit over the years.
Fact is, for various reasons there is a lot of resentments against the company, fair and unfair. But those resentments cause people to hold it up to standards that no wrestling company should really be held to and everything gets nitpicked to hell. If you take it for what it is and forget all that it's actually pretty decent and entertaining.
>>
Didn’t a top WWE guy fail miserably trying to copy this recently?

I mean, expecting perfectionism from a fucking wrestling show is stupid in the first place. Especially since it's live most of the time. Wrestling is "stupid entertainment" so taking everything too seriously and crying when you see someone botch makes people look like retards.
I don't care about console wars, but I stopped watching wrestling completely when they really started pushing the shit out of Roman and I only came back to watch it because AEW appeared. But - I didn't start watching when they first started, only a few years later. I still think it's at least watchable, where I couldn't sit through an entire episode of RAW without either killing myself or falling asleep. Last time I gave WWE a chance was the last RR and that just made me realize there's no point in giving chances anymore.
I'd rather watch other indies with shittier production. Because it actually feels more like a wrestling show and less like some weird advertising campaign
>>
>>20568198
Yeah, wrestling has always been something you just turn your brain off and watch. It doesn't always make sense, but that's okay because pro-wrestling isn't real and doesn't pretend to be anymore.
People today would be shitting all over 90s wrestling. Hulk Hogan and the NWO staging a corporate takeover via wrestling? That's fucking retarded man, why would any company put up with that. Or Austin. Dude drinks on the job and fucks with his boss and screws up everything he wants to do. If it happened today everyone would be bitching about how unrealistic that is because no boss would put up with that kind of behavior instead of just firing his ass.
It's a show. A dumb show you're just supposed to let yourself enjoy and say, "Oh shit!" when someone does something that's cool. Wrestling is only good when you accept it on its own premises and go with it.
>>
>>20568124
This place is much more entertaining than WWE or AEW.
>>
>>20568229
To be fair, while that it is true, this place also actively dampens the enjoyment you'd otherwise have for either of those due to the constant nitpicking of them.
Even if you take it all with a grain of salt it still sticks in your head when you try to watch and prevents you from getting invested in what you're watching, and it's investment that makes pro-wrestling good in the first place.
>>
>>20568139
>You create something unique and awesome and people eventually will want to tune in.
AEW is the antithesis of this. It started out with the potential to be something unique and awesome but its potential was never fulfilled. It's been getting progressively worse since 2019 and now it's lost over half its audience and counting.
>Most of it is pretty decent wrestling.
It isn't. The quality of the wrestling in AEW is abysmal. Sometimes on very rare occasions they'll produce a decent match but there's so much trash to wade through that watching AEW just isn't worth it.
>>
>>20568001
AEW is abysmal dog shit and this is an embarrassing sequence
>>
>>20568278
I disagree. I enjoy watching what I see well enough when I lay aside all the bullshit from places like this board or Cornette and just accept it on its own terms.
And a lot of other people do too. Maybe it's not for everyone but not everything has to be for everyone and that's okay.
>>
>>20568001
Am I watching circus acrobats or am I watching wrestling?

>Maybe it's not for everyone
AEW has turned itself into such a niche product that even people who loved it 2 or 3 years ago have stopped watching. And it just keeps making itself more niche. At this point, who the fuck is AEW even for?
>>
>>20568076
We can get the same thing on AAA only with real emotion and storylines
>>
>>20568344
I'd argue that a lot of people hate it because of what you're doing right now.
People hyperfocus on weird goofy shit (the bread and butter of wrestling, really) and play up how bad it is. That shit sticks in people's minds. When you go to give it a chance, all the stuff like the picrel you posted sticks in your mind and you tell yourself, "I can't be bothered to care about this," even when what you're watching might actually be pretty good.
I watched AEW in the beginning. I stopped watching maybe a year or two in. Because yeah, a lot was cringeworthy. And I've ripped on it as much as anyone (and shit man, you'll find me ripping on it in other threads because, end of the day, I'm a troll). But I've been watching DoN from a weekend ago and it's actually quite good. I tuned into a few random Dynamites and they weren't bad at all. Key was just that I had to lay shit from this board aside and take it on its own terms.
It's niche because we've decided it's niche. But they have some really good talents there. Tony's getting better at booking. Yeah, they do cringe goofy stuff but wrestling is cringe and goofy by nature and that's why we love it. It's good to have standards but sometimes it's easy to focus on the standards so much that nothing can live up to them.
>>
>>20568344

>>
>>20568410
>I'd argue that a lot of people hate it because of what you're doing right now.
It's AEW's fault that people don't like it. It's AEW's fault that people who used to like it stopped liking it. It isn't influenced by any external factors. It all starts and ends with the quality of the shit AEW puts out(or its lack of quality).
>I've been watching DoN from a weekend ago and it's actually quite good
>I tuned into a few random Dynamites and they weren't bad at all
DoN was shit and Dynamite is abysmal. You can pretend they're good but nobody's buying it because "hey guys AEW's good again trust me!" stops working after the 10th time.
>Tony's getting better at booking.

WWE brainwashed people into thinking slow boring wrestling is the only kind of wrestling that exists so whenever a match happens that leaves 2nd gear fedfags brains shortwire and can't comprehend it.
