Unironically yes.

It’s not satisfying storytelling for Lil Mac to jump straight to Mike Tyson. You gotta first beat Glass Joe and King Hippo and Don Flamenco and the whole list of jobbers to prove you belong. And it helps when those jobbers appear formidable.

The mistake would be 1) thinking Piston Honda is anything other than a stepping stone jobber, or 2) thinking anyone gives a shit to see Piston Honda fighting Von Kaiser, lol.

Jobbers are important to the extent they serve the narrative of boosting the up and coming talent. But if they’re just fighting each other as card filler, or if they delusionally convince themselves they’re more than jobbers, then that’s not ideal.
