Back when there was just RAW, Smackdown, and maybe the occasional ECW with a PPV every 4 weeks, it wasn't a problem to follow the product, it was a fun 2-4 hours per week. Nowadays there are PLEs every other day, special shows (that aren't PLEs for some reason), RAW is 8 hours long (6 of which are ads or replays) and SD is 6 hours long (8 of which are ads), it's not possible for the average person to actively follow the product. This has nothing to do with the quality. It could have 10/10 matches every time, but if I have to spend a third of a day just to watch wrestling, you can bet your fat ass I'm not watching it live, ever.

Watching live is miserable for non-burgers but its also a miserable show to sit through anyway. So you watch the next day and skip though a lot of people have found out they can no longer skip so a lot of them would have just stopped watching on Netflix and catch the highlights.
