It got me back into wrestling and was like the first match I ever saw where I was exposed to the fact that wrestling wasn't slow fake gay WWE shit. It literally changed wrestling as we know it
>>
>>20665211
ten years ago I would've even understood this statement. But nowadays when he's gifting 5 stars to every single shitter in GayEW, it's worth jack shit.
>>
>>20665228
Exactly. It's not The Most Important Match of All Time, it's just Dave's favorite match. The majority of die hard AEW fans probably haven't even seen this match (because they all pretend to watch NJPW but never did in reality).
>>
>>20665211
Is it really the world's most important wrestling match of most of the world past, present and future will not have seen it
>>
>>20665211
Well no shit it's the most important. That's why it got the highest star rating.
>>
>Omega vs. Okada is what led to Jericho vs. Omega
>Jericho vs. Omega is what made Tony Khan believe he could start a wrestling business.
>Tony Khan started AEW.
Simple as. Most important wrestling match of all time.
>>
>>20665304
I remember it getting gassed up like crazy so I watched it, given that the last time something got that much buzz, it was AJ and Shinsuke and that actually delivered.
I thought the match was mostly okay, certainly the best Omega match I've ever seen. It was probably fifteen minutes too long though.

>So uhhh Tony, the narrative is uhhh going to be you uhhh booking Omega vs uhhh Okada and I'll say it's uhhhh the most important uhhhhh wrestling match of all time
>>

Man he's really gotten to over the Mask vs Mask match
>>
>>20666384
I genuinely believe Dave does it for free. The dude's a mark.
>>
>>20665211
he didn't say this. he said it was the most important match between that, Misawa/Kobashi vs Kawada/Taue at Budokan, and Misawa vs. Jumbo Tsuruta. I think someone asked about those 3 because they all took place on June 8th or 9th.

>This match led to a wrestling promotion that's remained unprofitable for over 7 years, is averaging 500k viewers, and is only drawing 1200 people to its shows to be created
Right. Sure thing anon. Wrestling never would have existed without it
>>
>>20666401
Lemme ask you a question. Over the course of those 7 years, what percentage of your waking life do you think you've spent thinking about AEW?
>>
>>20665251
That part
>>
>>20665211
>Michael Bay of wrestling journalist loves Michael Bay style matches

ok we know this already
>>
>>20665211
What a fucking retard lmao
>>
>>20666406
Let me return a question your way. Over the course of those 7 years, has a single AEW show gone by without its fans, wrestlers, management, dirtsheet bitch boys, and anyone else tied to that company obsessively comparing it to WWE?
Cry all you want anon, AEW's entire identity is built around hating WWE. From its shows to its promos to its wrestlers to its fans. You name it

The most important wrestling match of all time is Inoki vs Ali.
If you want to argue that wasn't a wrestling match, then the most important match is either Hogan vs Sheik where Hogan won the WWF Title for the first time or Lawler vs Funk empty arena match for being the first thing resembling a hardcore match.
>>
>>20667465
Hogan was already the biggest US name in wrestling when he won the WWF title, don't buy into the revisionist hype. You're better off arguing it's Hogan/Piper on MTV, but for some reason the WWE never mentions that match.
>>
>>20666318
Tony Khan stated in several interviews across the years that what made him start a wrestling promotion was the TV landscape changing with the huge rights fee increases for wrestling and not a singular match.

>most important match of all time
>barely anyone knows it even happened
kek

>>20666318
That's a lie no matter how many times you post it. Omega vs Okada wasn't important in the slightest and lead to nothing whatsoever.
>>
>>20667465
>The most important wrestling match of all time is Inoki vs Ali.
Nah, the actual most important wrestling match of all time is the first match that people paid money to see, thus proving that wrestling could be a financially viable business. What match was that? Hell if I know, it's probably been lost to the mists of time.
>>
I'm not watching a video of Dave incoherently rambling, but I can't see how anyone could credibly argue this.
>>
Omega vs Okada is more infamous than any Wrestlemania match in the last 10 years. Simple as.
>>
>>20666526
Yes.
>>
>>20666526
Yes, in fact I don't even remember the last time WWE was mentioned on AEW tv. Now, has a single Royal RUmble gone by in 7 years without edrones obsessively hoping a new yummy wummy AEW toy gets put in their trough?
>>
>>20667496
Jericho/Omega (and all of the Elite being free agents at the same time) is what made him believe it was feasible. The rights fees were what made him believe it was a good financial idea.

>>20667510
True and truepilled, TYBRRRPD.
>>
>>20666526
No
>>
>>20667920
>Jericho/Omega (and all of the Elite being free agents at the same time) is what made him believe it was feasible.
No it didn't. All In 2018 was the proof of concept for AEW.
>>
That's the hierarchy of important matches in wrestling

Okada/Omega > Hackenschmidt/Frank Gotch
>>
>>20667969
>>Jericho/Omega (and all of the Elite being free agents at the same time) is what made him believe it was feasible.
>No it didn't. All In 2018 was the proof of concept for AEW.
Nope, The streaming numbers Jericho brought in with that match are what directly motivated him.
>>
>>20667969
No, Khan had already spoken to Kevin Reilly months before All In.
>>
>they're pigging out about a match they've never seen
>>
>>20668100
Shouldn't you be signing new independent musicians to AEW as part of your job? Does Tony know you spend all your time shitposting here instead of working?
>>
>>20667909
You AEWxirs literally beg for every WWE name you can possibly get your hands on. You're still seething that AJ Styles actually retired and didn't go there. You were just making up rumors and getting Tony's paid dirtsheet sites to run them about CM Punk making amends to go back to AEW. You all want Tony to pay Cena to wrestle one more time. You're all clamoring for the 40 year old New Day to sign with them for le epic dream matches. Fuck off and fuck you
>>
>>20668117
>You're still seething that AJ Styles actually retired and didn't go there.
Would've been cool, I think it's a bummer we never got Omega vs. AJ, but, hey, it's his life.
> You were just making up rumors and getting Tony's paid dirtsheet sites to run them about CM Punk making amends to go back to AEW.
I only want this to happen because it'd make all the AEW fans who have made hating Punk their entire personality crash out and that would be funny.
>You all want Tony to pay Cena to wrestle one more time.
That's never gonna happen, would not be a good fit and I dunno who he'd even wrestle. That seems like a very bad idea.
>You're all clamoring for the 40 year old New Day to sign with them for le epic dream matches.
Yeah, that sounds like fun. I think that would lead to some good matches.
>>
>>20668117
Has a single Royal Rumble gone by in 7 years without edrones obsessively hoping a new yummy wummy AEW toy gets put in their trough?
>>
>>20668149
Well let's see, I know 2026 was Jericho, what were the rest?
>>
Not the most important of all time, that'd probably be Hogan and Mr T vs Piper and Orndorf. Okada/Omega is the most important match for the last two decades or so. It led to the focus on matches and them being good, top guys like Cena trying hard with AJ, pushing smark darlings for better matches etc. It led to Jericho leaving WWE, building up the Elite, them doing All In, Tony realizing he can actually start a competing company.

Moxley
Kenny
Okada
MJF
>>
I'd assume Daves actual answer would be the biggest Rikidozan match because it's probably true and because he obviously dislikes Hogan.
>>
Shane Douglas vs Too Cold Scorpio is surely top 10 most important matches, what with it basically starting the 90s wrestling boom.
>>
>>20668149
Kek you're so mad everybody who's gone from AEW to WWE is doing better than they ever did in AEW
>>
>>20668589
It's a shit match that most people talking about it have probably never actually watched and also proves what part about supposed wrestling is important and interesting.

Also Too Cold Scorpio is probably the most overrated indie darling of all time.
>>
>>20668604
The general discussion with about 99% of wrestling fans would probably go like:
>you know that shane douglas promo with the belt
>yeah
>who did he wrestle that night
>no fucking idea
>>
>>20668584
in the video he says Hogan vs Iron Sheik

>>
>>20666318
The reality is Tony was getting into wrestling before any of these matches happened.
>>
>>20665211
Is it really?
>>
Tony Khan was always going to start a wrestling company with his dad's money.
