MMA sucks now because it’s been popular enough for long enough that everyone fighting MMA has trained it for most of their lives. 20 years ago it was guys who were primarily boxers/wrestlers/bjj and the styles clash led to shorter and more exciting fights. Also way too many brown guys that can’t speak English and have 8 vowels in their name.

It's singular, it's homogenised into its own discipline of "do some basic boxing and leg kicks until you can get a takedown, scissor them until they're tired enough to let you sit on their face, do an armbar or punch them". The rules have helped encourage this homogenisation, and the mainstreaming of the sport means you get the generic tapout shirt gymbros going into it instead of Kung Fu obsessives and innawoods serial killers. We'll never again get a Cro Cop type fighter who becomes elite because he has one finishing move he's perfected. We'll never get another Kazuyuki Fujita who turns tanking with your face into an actual strategy. We'll never again get a Genki Sudo who is a total fucking retard.
