It seems like Hogan referred to Japanese shoot wrestlers as "PRIDE fighters" in the same way a boomer would call all video games "Nintendo". Early PRIDE events actually had a lot of wrestlers from "shoot" organizations like UWF and RINGS which also overlapped with NJPW.
