In the 80s they were a guide to help people decide what matches they might seek out to play in their VCR. Younger generations of sensitive wrestlers and fans are most responsible for today's butthurt around them. Dave used to talk on the phone to Vince, Heyman and Cornette. None of them or their wrestlers seemed to care when Dave was rating Japanese matches higher, and Cornette is one of those credited with introducing the star ratings. Vince especially I bet didn't give one shit what Dave rated Hogan matches and was far more interested in attendance numbers.
