>New Japan Pro-Wrestling Announces “New Executive Officers”… Presidents of NOAH, DDT, and Tokyo Women’s “Cyber Fight” Appointed as New “Directors”

>New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced its new executive structure on its official website by the 3rd.

>On May 27, New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced that its parent company, the card game company “Bushiroad,” would transfer its shares to TV Asahi and the major IT firm “CyberAgent” on June 30.

>On June 30, New Japan Pro-Wrestling became a consolidated subsidiary of TV Asahi. According to the “Company Information” section of the organization’s official website, Chairman Naoki Sugabayashi, President Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Vice President Hitoshi Matsumoto have retained their positions. A new vice-chairman position was created, and Kaoru Mikumo, a director at TV Asahi who had previously served on the board of directors, was appointed to the role.

>Additionally, Yasuro Okamoto—President of “Cyber Fight,” which operates DDT, Pro Wrestling NOAH, and Tokyo Women’s Pro-Wrestling, and Vice President of CyberAgent—was appointed to the board of directors.

>With the appointment of Mr. Okamoto—who serves as president of a competing organization—New Japan Pro-Wrestling and “Cyber Fight” have become group companies in both name and reality. Going forward, innovative developments in event promotion and the content business are expected to drive further growth in the pro-wrestling industry.

This Gabe Kidd guy is a TOTAL LOSER! Weak, no talent, looks like a disaster in the ring—can’t wrestle, zero charisma, just a big stiff mess. I don’t want this guy anywhere near the GLEAT promotions I love. Keep him out, he’s bad for business! SAD!
>>

So, is Tiger Mask going to name a new Tiger Mask (not an MMA shitter who's going to fuck off ASAP) or is the gimmick truly done?
>>

I say a 'big stiff mess' but I should say a 'little stiff mess' because he's small. They say my hands are small but he's very small in every way, folks. Every way. Tiny.

>[New Japan Pro-Wrestling] Popular wrestler Tomoaki Honma announces retirement due to worsening neck condition; retirement match to be held in his hometown of Yamagata next year.

Tomoaki Honma (49), a popular professional wrestler active in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, announced his retirement on the 4th.

On this day, Honma stepped into the ring before the tournament held in his hometown of Yamagata and apologized for his absence due to a nagging neck injury. He then announced, "I, Tomoaki Honma, am retiring from professional wrestling." He declared that he will have his retirement match at next year's Yamagata tournament (date and venue TBD), and until then, he intends to hold autograph sessions at New Japan venues for about a year without competing in any matches. He ended by cheering on the crowd with his catchphrase, "Kokeshi is happy! Let's be happy!"

It was a heartbreaking decision. Honma suffered a serious central cervical spinal cord injury at the Okinawa tournament in March 2017. After surgery and strenuous rehabilitation, he made a miraculous comeback at the Yamagata tournament in June 2018, but he had been struggling for a long time because he could not return to his pre-return performance level. Furthermore, an examination he underwent in May of this year revealed that the bones of his cervical vertebrae were severely deformed, and the increased risk of him stepping into the ring was a major factor in his decision.

Honma, who hails from Hamaguchi Gym, debuted with Big Japan Pro Wrestling in May 1997. He was a star in the deathmatch scene but left the company in October 2000. After working as a freelancer, he joined All Japan Pro Wrestling in March 2002.
>>
>>20762314

After leaving All Japan Pro Wrestling in May 2006, he became a free agent again before making New Japan Pro-Wrestling his main battleground. He officially joined the company in 2009, and although his contract was terminated in March 2012, he continued to participate in New Japan matches as a free agent from March 2013.

Honma's signature move is his finishing move, the Kokeshi (a modified diving headbutt). Although it is dodged by opponents with a fairly high probability, the mere motion of the move captivates the audience. In 2014, he made his debut in the "G1 Climax" but lost every match. The following year, in 2015, he stopped his worst losing streak in the G1 at "17" and achieved his first victory against Tomohiro Ishii, a match that was etched in the hearts of many fans, and in the same year he also received the Pro Wrestling Award for Skill.

Furthermore, his bond with Togi Makabe, which began in February 2007 when he joined the unit "G.B.H," is deep, and they have achieved success together, including winning the "World Tag League" twice in a row (2015 and 2016) and capturing the IWGP Tag Team Championship in 2016.

Furthermore, the fact that his voice became hoarse after receiving a powerful lariat to the throat also contributed to his later breakthrough. His incomprehensible speech, which was unfamiliar to those unfamiliar with his style, became a hit, and he became a popular guest on variety shows.

Honma, beloved by many fans, will be leaving the ring he has cherished for so long in 2027, the year he marks the 30th anniversary of his debut.

>In that respect, Makabe also seems to be in trouble soon.
>Honestly, it seems like most of the wrestlers are in a condition where retirement would be the right thing to do. Unless Kojima or Nagata are forced to retire.
>Veteran wrestlers in their 50s who can still move and fight have a certain charm that younger generations lack. Kojima's tag team with Taichi was better than Ishii's, so I think he should be allowed to wear the belt.
>I bet Ishii's contract will be terminated next year too.
>Nagata will probably play until he's 60.

>[NJPW] Honma Tomoaki Holds Wife Chie’s Words in His Heart… For Next Year’s Retirement Match: “I Want to Team with Makabe-san”

>Popular wrestler Honma Tomoaki (49) revealed the feelings he has hidden away for his last match. Honma announced his retirement from active competition on the 4th and will hold his retirement match at next year’s Yamagata show, with the date and venue still undecided. He strongly hopes to team one last time with his close ally Makabe Togi. What was happening behind the scenes as the man who made a miraculous comeback from a serious neck injury decided to leave the ring he loved more than anyone, and what is his vision after retirement?

>Honma, who had continued to miss shows due to the worsening of an old neck injury, entered the ring at a show held in his hometown of Yamagata on the 4th and announced his retirement from active competition. Although he made a miraculous comeback from a central cervical spinal cord injury in June 2018, he spent day after day unable to feel satisfied with his performances. An examination he underwent in May this year revealed that the bones in his cervical spine had become severely deformed, and the increased danger of getting in the ring was also a major factor in his decision.

>Honma confessed what was in his heart: “When I first debuted, my belief, or goal, as a pro wrestler was to burn bright and short. But now, even if it were thin, thin, incredibly thin, I wish I could have lived a long, long life. I really loved pro wrestling.” Though he carries feelings of regret, behind his decision to leave the ring was the presence of his wife Chie, who had continued to support him during his long absence.
>>
>>20769915
>“She told me, ‘Wasn’t it good that you were able to finish while you’re still healthy?’ She said, ‘You still have a long life ahead of you, so let’s do what you can do.’ It wasn’t something I could decide alone, so she gave me the push I needed to make the decision. Honestly, I wanted to keep going until my five-year-old daughter could understand pro wrestling a little more clearly, but… I want to make up for that with a happy family life,” he recalled.

>There are still many undecided elements regarding his retirement match. But there is one thing he has already decided in his heart. “As expected, I want to do it by teaming with Makabe-san, who is indispensable to my history,” he said, expressing his wish to form one last tag team with the ally he has fought alongside for nearly 20 years, dating back to his joining G.B.H in February 2007.

>If he had never met Makabe, he would not have continued wrestling for this long. “When we first started teaming, there was a time he punched me and said, ‘You’re having matches like it’s just your own self-satisfaction,’ but that changed me. Makabe-san taught me the depth and the fun of pro wrestling.”

>When Makabe heard Honma’s feelings, he responded in kind: “Of course. But if it’s your retirement match, then even though I’ve gone out there and fought 99 percent of the time until now, I’m going to make you do it 80-20. Even if you become a tattered rag, show the fans the courage to stand back up from there.”
>>
>>20769917
>As for after retirement, nothing has been decided. Honma himself said, “Talent activities? I was being called because I’m a pro wrestler, so… I wonder if a regular person with a raspy voice would get called. But my motto was that I wanted to convey energy through pro wrestling. I may no longer be Kokeshi, but I want to do something that can give people happiness in some form,” indicating that he intends to think it over carefully during the roughly one year before his retirement match.

>Looking back on a turbulent pro wrestling life, Honma held his head high and said, “It was fun, and it was truly a happy 30 years.” He is unquestionably a great wrestler who will remain in fans’ memories forever.

>ELP doesn't really have anything left to do in NJPW, right? The only things left they can aim for are the tag team title or the TV Championship. I think it would be far more worthwhile for them to find like-minded wrestlers in AEW.
>Umino makes way too many unnecessary appeals, which is probably one of the reasons why people dislike him.
>Akira had a really good match without any foul play or interference. He's definitely not cut out to be a heel, he should leave the Empire.
>New Japan Pro-Wrestling currently has the ability to fill Korakuen Hall, but when it comes to big matches, it suddenly fails to fill up. That's something they need to work on going forward.
>The fact that they had to play two matches, the Global and the IWGP Junior Heavyweight titles, just to sell out shows how much their drawing power has declined compared to before. In their heyday, even just the preliminary matches would have sold out, but if they had the momentum they had a little while ago, even just two G1 qualifying singles matches would have sold out.
