>4 Episodes >176 minutes >full production crew >when it’s a one word answer: StingI was there that night. I was at Starcade 97 when Sting showed up flabby and pale looking like a total bum. You could hear a pin drop in the arena. 90 thousand screaming fans, the biggest Starcade in history to blow off the biggest angle in history with biggest icon in professional wrestling and this jabroni sting blew it off showing up unwashed like he was at a magic the gathering tournament. Took all the wind out of the place. Dead silent the whole match. WCW went out of business before the show even ended. I saw the putting up a “4 sale HUGE discount!” Sign on the lawn and the janitor was scraping Bischoffs name off the office door as we were leaving the arena. The trash cans were full of replica title belts and sting masks. Ted Turner himself was standing in the parking lot handing out refunds an apologizing.
Did the pressure get to him or was his home life getting fucked? why would he become a pillhead when he only had a handful of matches in 97
>>20783641I actually asked him that night I said “Why’d you do it stingster? Why’d you blow off the biggest match in history and singlehandedly kill WCW!” And he said “What’s the point, brother, I’ll never be as good as the hulkster dude.” So he got all pilled up and ate a bunch of Krispy Kreme
>>20783632good bait, but we all know WCW died because a merger put it into the hands of people who didnt actually want it. they were always going to sell WCW at the first opportunity. and then it was bought by the man who hated it more than anyone. its really that simple and everything else is cope. yes the fingerpoke of doom hurt them, same with russo's booking and the botched starrcade finish, but they could have survived all those things and at least kept going. if fucking TNA is still in business after all their endless fuckups, then i guarantee that WCW could have survived all those problems. however, no company can survive a hostile change of ownership.
>>20783632i finally decided to watch the sting vs hogan because of this post. what a shit match
>>20783720Had WCW been doing good business and making a profit, there would have been more potential buyers. So yeah while the merger killed it, they also caused their own downfall with their shit decisions.
>>20783720>t. mark All that shit was a work
>>20783632The company could have been saved if the had put the world title on The Gambler.
>>20783720>we all know WCW died because a merger put it into the hands of people who didnt actually want itBut enough about WWE
>>20783632>90 thousand screaming fansFucking kek
>>20783730youre forgetting that bischoff found some investors and tried to buy WCW outright. there were other people willing to buy, but i think it's safe to say nobody wanted WCW more than McMahon. so no, they were ALWAYS going to sell it as soon as it went into a slump and they could justify it. russo's shitty booking and all the other dumb shit from that time is what sent them into the slump, but that was always going to happen sooner or later. WCW was pretty much unkillable when ted was in charge but it flipped completely when ted was no longer im charge. and no, nobody ever gave one solitary little fuck about sting not having a tan.
>>20783758not the same because TKO obviously did want WWE, if only so that they could squeeze its fans for every last penny that their evil little hebrew hands could hold.
>>20783763Bisch could not produce the credit. That's why they turned him down. He just can't recall this fact when he talks about it.
>>20783763The problem, as I understand it, was he could buy it but no channel wanted it because it was a poisoned brand getting its head stoved in every week by the WWF. So with no TV, what was he going to do with it? Vince already had TV, even if he didn't really intend to utilise it so he could much more easily justify the purchase than Bischoff could to his investors.
>>20783871Of course, the big irony there is WCW has been worth so much more to WWE without TV than it ever would be with. We know he bought WCW for a pittance, Vince would have made that money back by the end of the week since it was the lead in to the hottest WrestleMania he'd ever promoted. I'd be willing to bet ownership of the tape library has paid for WCW millions of times over.
>>20783871not exactly. the investors thought it would still be shown on TNT and TBS. when they found out that TNT and TBS wouldnt be keeping those deals in place, thats when they backed out. its not that they couldnt possibly have found another TV deal, turner just didnt want them.
>hey, this WCW wrestling stuff fucking sucks. I know, I'll sell it to my old buddies Stuart Snyder and Vince McMahon for pennies on the dollar, no one can stop me now that Ted Turner has no power from the merger>now off to ruin cartoon network
>>20783726This. Sting blows dick, throw Bret into the mix and you’re guaranteed a shitfest
>>20783632>Who who killed killed WCW? WCW?
>>20783632AAAAOL WORLD ORDER BROTHER killed Turner
>>20784986meanwhile WWF were doing based skits called beaver cleavage
