What are your thoughts on Doink The Clown?
>>20878141One of the greatest gimmicks the WWF ever produced, and I wish they kept it around still. Doink should debut in AAA.
If he was around now I know drones would be saying his stuff is ' cinema""
Very, very underrated. Was both a highlight and a detriment to the era he was in. The highlight is that Bourne took the character and ran with it. He ensured the character had more depth than just being a clown, simply by the way he would look into the camera and his face would immediately drop the act and scowl revealing more to him underneath the surface. And at the same time, he was a clown in a show looking more and more like a circus while nWo was appealing to adults. Bourne's take on the character gave it depth but was a sign of bigger problems within the company in terms of direction but none of that was Bourne's fault. Had he stayed clean and things were different, it would have been interesting to see how Doink could have fared by evolving his character in the AE. Like how Papa Shango was almost going to come back with more sinister make-up before turning him into The Godfather last minute.
Would have loved to have seen how his character would have developed during the attitude era.
>>20878141I loved when Matt Borne was alive and working the indies because he constantly went on the internet to complain that he couldn't get booked anywhere because people kept stealing his gimmick

>>20878141Based when the gimmick started with Matt Bourne under the face paint. But her got fired for loving nose candy, among other things, and the gimmick was passed to Steve Lombardi, then a couple of other people and was never the same after Bourne lost the gig.

>>20878141Original Doink is a legendary character and run. Way ahead of it's time and inspired many gimmicks both good and bad with it's cerebral and menacing tone. A true comic book joker villain in a sense. Matt Borne also had skills as a wrestler that was necessary for it all to work - timing, presence, crowd work, shoot skills.. I don't really hate the bastardized, flanderized versions that came later. I see it partially as Matt Borne's fault that he was erratic and difficult by most account and basically got himself removed, but I do see them as a downgrade, dumbed down and just for the kids sort of entertainment that's kinda sad for the character.
Matt Borne was such a shitter half of his fan club never learned to spell his last name right KWAB

>>20878141Babfyface Doink encapsulated the shittiness of the new generation era. Vince loved him for some reason, kept him on TV and even featured him in the companies big video game releases well into 1995.
