I don't think many people would think of circus performers, ballet dancers or even actors as athletes.
I personally think there has to be a competition involved for someone to be considered an athlete, which excludes pro wrestling. Not that it doesn't require lots and lots of physical work and skill, but there really isn't real competition involved. Though, I can understand if someone thinks otherwise, it's just a question of semantics.
