i'm still pissed that they fumbled this shit
>>
remember when dronies said that Cena's heel turn would be just as monumental for the business as Hogan's KWAB
>>
>>20887211
I realized after his heel promos why he never made it in hollywood
>>
>>20887224
they were posting nWo pics alongside Travis Scott, Cena and Dwayne pics. it was so embarrassing.
>>
>>20887211
Someday we'll understand the true story of what went down behind the scenes. I'm looking forward to reading Cody's inevitable book. I will say that after Cena turned babyface again, there were some very bright moments in that last part of his career. I hope people will remember the amazing matches he had in those last months.
>>
>>20887336
>I am looking forward to reading the book of noted liar and sociopath Cody Rhodes
Oof
>>
>>20887211
I don't even remember it. Though I was banned from the other territory so at the time it was happening. Still am.
>>
>>20887211
>2 years in a few months
jesus
>>
>>20887317
>>20887224
Ill always believe it would've worked if The Rock stuck around, but him ghosting WWE after that killed the storyline.

>>20887376
why did he ghost?
>>
>>20887211
They fumbled it because one, they don't want to ruined Cena's retirement merch sales if they went hard on Cena's heel character and two, poor booking
>>
>>20887376
I think they should've kept doing the hollywood cabal story even without him. people might've even tolerated travis scott at mania
>>
>>20887211
People act like Dwayne leaving early was the biggest problem, but this shit was seriously tainted from the moment they decided to randomly include Travis Scott
The actual turn itself would have been so much better if it was just Cena and Rock standing over a downed Cody.....WITHOUT Travis Scott leaning on the ropes nearby like he didn't give a fuck
>>
>>20887384
it's obvious he big leagued paul and fucked over the story to get back at him for trying to kill his career back in the day
>>
>>20887406
If the Rock was still there and you had this 2 man powertrip x10 story then nobody would've cared Scott was there since they told him to fuck off right after anyway. Hell you could just pull a Soviet and edit him out of the pics if you really wanted, its not like WWE hasn't rewritten history to silly lengths before.
>>
>>20887384
lel hhh is such a kwab. rock made it obvious that he saw the hand too

it unironically could've been salvaged somewhat if they did thrice in a lifetime at 'mania 42
>cena in the middle of the ring after losing to gunther
>IF YA SMELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
>rock gets into the ring and cuts a promo about still owning cena's soul and him not being able to retire until the final boss says so
>rock bottom
>challenge issued for mania
the match would've probably been shit but at least the story would get resolved instead of abandoned
>>
>>20887336
We pretty much know the story is 90% confirmed
>Rock wanted Cody to turn heel, he says no so they go with Cena
>mania match happens, it's a disaster
>supposed to lead to tag match with Cena/Scott vs Cody/Jelly Roll but Travis Scott is a lazy faggot so they scrap those plans
>With Rock gone and clearly not coming back for any length of time, Cena goes to Haitch and just says his heel turn sucked and they should ditch it before summerslam
>>
>>20887211
Travis Scott ain't no Rodman
>>
>>20887224
It was going to be Fault doesn't known how to book, or spite booked. Also as said The Rock was supposed to figure in somehow in a big way his disappearance damaged.
>>
>>20887336
Rock wanted to fuck over Hunter for fucking him over at Wrestlemania 40, just a simple receipt and nothing more
>>
>>20887211
It would have been interesting if Cena's planned heel turn in 2012 happened. He recorded a new theme song and was going to change his ring attire
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yabyTd2cTgQ&t=173s
>>
>Rock was called in to boost EC ticket sales
>No real story or reason for it so they came up with Rock wanting Cody's soul
>Come EC, Rock wanted Cody to go heel
>Cody and HHH said no, its too soon, not the right guy etc.
>Rock offered Owens instead, no again, Cody and Owens just had a months long feud
>Plus Owens was about to get injured anyway
>So Cena or someone offered to do it
>Get the turn, absolute kino with Cody telling Rock to fuck himself and then Cena pretending to be the friend, even teased earlier with Cena exploiting Seth screwing Punk to win the Chamber
>Everyone's hype, another kino Mania on the horizon
>Punk cuts a promo the RAW after going off on Rock and Cena
>Rock doesn't show up
>Cena doesn't show up
>Travis Scott doesn't show up
>Cena's big return to seal the deal with the turn was to go full meta, do the lamest heel shit possible to try and get heat
>Nothing works and fans are constantly behind him
>After a middling year of stuff fans weren't getting behind, abruptly turn him face outta nowhere
>Despite winning the 17th world title and IC title, its just not enough to make up for how much of a let down his final year was, capped off with the man who never gives up... giving up
>>
>>20887211
Can only blame Dwayne and rapper guy. They signed on to be a part of the moment and set the expectations for what the heel run was going to be. Then they both bailed and left Cena high and dry. Without the Rock and whatever his name was being a part of it there was no explanation Cena could have ever given and no creative Triple H could have ever come up with that would have satisfied the expectations the heel turn moment itself had set. They tried and it wasn't good but they were both royally fucked by Dwayne and I still think to this day that was intentional
>>
>>20889131
I think Cena fell out of love with his wrestling and his gimmick when Vince was removed from WWE
>>
>>20889131
There was nothing wrong with Gunther making Cena tap. I think Cena's facial expression didn't translate as well as he thought it would. I understand he's supposed to be accepting that it's the end and coming to terms with it. But it looked a little more like he just stopped selling and tapped out because he was bored.
>>
>>20889163
Its likely, he was very close to Vince. Keep in mind though Cena was prepared to give them a full year for his retirement run but they instead chose 42 dates or however many it was.

>>20889145
It was made by multiple problems. Rock was asked to do something to boost EC ticket sales, Scott wanted to try out wrestling around the same time so it was all supposed to go together. Cody turns, sells his soul in the illuminati ritual and fucks up Cena. He has Rock and Scott on his side and because its something Rock wanted, he'd have stuck around. Because it didn't go his way, he left. They could have had Cody and Cena chase them off first but then Scott's involvement is wasted and Rock wouldn't want to look weak until its time for a match. It was just a mess.
>>
>>20889183
I got what he was going for right away too but I get why people were still pissed. After the lackluster run, I think they could have easily had Cena win. They could have even done a dirty finish to make Gunther win, Aldis restarts it and Cena wins to send the crowd home happy.
>>
I'm just glad that we got the SummerSlam match, which was truly epic, and the beautiful AJ match. The one with Logan was really great too. There's a lot that went wrong with Cena's last year, but it wasn't all bad. Once they gave up on the heel turn, it was mostly good.
>>
>>20887211
>Hogan and Rock were the two FOTCs who turned heel and improved the business.
>Cena and austin, on the other hand, killed the business.

That's why Cena and austin will never be as good as Hogan and Rock.
>>
>>20887211
The Rock fumbled it by abandoning the story line. Nothing WWE could do to fix it.
>>
The last time WWE was revelant
>>
>>20889183
Basically. It was a contented smile in the middle of a fucking sleeper. I know WWE is all about theatrics but it was too hammed up.
>>
Paul couldn't handle Rock making WWE hot again so he threw a bitch fit.
>>
>>20889825
He was just doing the smart thing. Turning Cody heel was way too soon and even with Cody's split reactions he is still a major merch mover, a great FOTC and at the time a big ticket seller. Cena passing the torch is more than just FOTC to FOTC, its the corporate babyface passing it to the next. Cody is well dressed, looks good (minus that fucking tattoo), well spoken and squeaky clean.
>>
>>20889912
Cody is such a natural heel and boring face that people have been screaming for him to turn heel for the last 6 months. Rock using Cody to run WWE into the ground writes itself. Allows you to still do the Cena farewell tour, allows for conflict with Cody and Roman and Rock, keeps Roman, Cody, and the main event scene hot etc. Paul just didn't like Dwayne playing with his action figures.
>>
>>20889183
gunther is a pussy who tapped out to jey
>>
>>20889912
smarks like you and gaytch are to thank for WWE being horrid dog shit right now
>>
Zoomers can't accept that the past was better and were all in on "CENA'S HEEL TURN IS BIGGER THAN HOGAN JOINING NWO!" like the brainless retards they are.
>>
do you think this was one 500IQ rib from the rock to set this up and bail on him or was it just sort of opportunistic?

>>20887336
>>20887359

It was for the second time but Rock to went up
>>
>>20887556
That's not even 10% of the story.
>>

How many years have you posted this shit to basically zero replies? Give it up already man it's genuinely sad
>>
The turn was over when rock talked about it after the show about how wrestling was fake and blah blah blah. Like we know it is but you’re not supposed to tell us. It’s like when raw debut on Netflix and the first thing they did was have hhh tell everyone lol we are actors and this shit is fake. It’s just dumb.
>>
>>20889825
>>20890005
Nah Dwayne only wanted to turn Cody heel because Cody got cheered over him the year before and Dwayne is an insecure little bitch. Don't get me wrong Paul is a retard too and he's the one most at fault for fumbling Cena's final run but he was 100% in the right here and it was good of him to actually protect his full time talent from spiteful politicking. If Cody turned heel Dwayne wouldn't have shown up either, him and Gewirtz the kike only cooked that heel turn up to fuck over the guy who messed up their plans the previous year
>>
>>20892838
It was Paul that chased Dwayne away by big leaguing him by having Cody win the Rumble again.

Dwayne fucking cleared his entire schedule in 2024 only for Paul to pull that shit off, he fucking deserved that receipt Dwayne gave him a year later and he knows it.
>>
>>20892838
so much headcannon in this post.
Dwayne left because Paul decided to turn Cena heel instead of Cody, and Dwayne knew exactly how dimeless that would be.
Paul and Cody got their way and WWE has been in decline ever since.
>>
>>20892838
Rock was constantly trying to put down Kino with the three sign, handing Cody the item, and then the Cena heel turn. Gaytch couldn't handle having his booking exposed so he undermined Rock at every turn.
>>
>>20893363
Do you blame Cody for trying to politick back at Dwayne?
>>
>Rock tries to ruin Cody's Wrestlemania
>Rock has Cody sat in the crowd like a mark while he kills their potential feud at the Netflix debut
>A month later wants Cody, the FOTC, to turn heel

Cody was right to turn him down,
>>
>>20893363
It's this, but Cody/HHH/WWE marks need someone to blame. All anyone needs to look at is WWE now, since Rock gave the marks and smarks what they wanted. It's in the shitter with Cody and HHH at the helm.
>>
>>20893441
Did Cody not get his way at WM40 in the end? with addition of the Final Boss to really give Cody the rub and hype up Cody's eventual victory at mania.

Cody proceeded to have one of the worst reigns in WWE history.
So bad Dwayne has to come back and fix things again. Cody refuses to turn heel (just like in AEW), so they turn Cena heel and WWE has never recovered.
>>
>>20893441
dwayne saved mania 40. no one would've given a shit about roman vs cody without him hijacking the story
>>
>>20893474
that part.
Jon Stewart did a segment to covering cena's heel turn, and his crowd bursts laughing when he mentions Cody Rhodes, because they have no idea who he is. it's quite brutal.

>>
>>20893488
Damn. lel.
>>
>>20887384
>lost weight for some movie role
>trying to win an Oscar
>Probably had his year booked out way in advance
>planned story around not being there

What I don't understand is that Dwayne is a proven box office anti-draw. He's always a part of movies with bloated budgets that get panned by critics, barely break even (if they even are profitable) and are forgotten about by normal people as soon as they leave the theater. Seriously The Rock fucking sucks. He is only good at being a pro wrestler, idk why he doesn't just commit to it. He's made several lifetimes worth of money. And wrestling fans are the only ones who seem to actually care about him.
>>
>>20893507
>He is only good at being a pro wrestler, idk why he doesn't just commit to it
because this is WWE today
>>
>>20892186
This. Plus what the fuck has Gunther done since retiring cena? They fumbled everything after the initial turn
>>
>>20893507
He's stuck between being too dimes for shitty modern wrestling, yet too dimeless to make a Predator, Total Recall, Terminator 2. (though, to be honest, the entirety of modern Hollywood is, too).
>>
>>20893523
Even Arnold was anti dimes in the 90s yet nobody brings that up with him, only with Rock.
>>
>>20893568
>Arnold was anti dimes in the 90s
>>
>>20893568
I wasn't alive in the 90's, but I could see the comparison. Arnold being a GOAT bodybuilder is like The Rock being a GOAT wrestler. Only difference is that bodybuilding has an earlier retirement age than wrestling (1980 Olympia was rigged). The Rock could have kept wrestling for another decade, especially with the style he worked. He would have done great with a Brock schedule. Show up once a month, cut a great promo, wrestle once every 3-6 months on a big show, repeat, be over as fuck.
