It's really not in WWE's interest for any other promotion outside of their control to be popular. Promotions have lost promotional wars before and ceased to exist because of it. It's just business and it's better to be the mean company who killed their competition than the nice company that got unseated. Just ask NJPW. They were the #2 promotion in the world then AEW came around and swatted them down hard.WWE really messed up when they acquired WCW and did nothing with it. They should have done what Pepsi or Coke does - offer different brands. If you don't like Pepsi, you can drink Sprite. All they had to do was release a little control, let WWE owned WCW run on its own and see if they could make it work. It would have maybe pleased some former WCW fans, it could have served as some kind of developmental if and it would have been place for them to send disgruntled wrestlers or wrestlers who needed a break from WWE TV. If that other brand had existed, AEW maybe would have never came about.
