Why did the WWE move on from pushing Shawn as the GOAT to shilling Cena? Shawn is a country mile of a better wrestler than him, and if it's draw-wise then Cenetty isn't the biggest draw ever either. Is Gaitch trying to unjannetty himself by minimising Shawn's greatness and making himself out to be an all time great?
Shawn was a whiney crackhead before he found jesus.
>>20991695Short answer is: HBK didnt want the world title during his second run. Cant really build any real mainevents around someone not willing to be the companies main champion. Plus he was fine in his role. Great matches there. All worked out to some degree.
>>20991695Shawn & Sid was the reason WWF didn't go under in 96-97
>>20991695I hate the Cena GOAT marketing because it literally fucking started out of nowhere. One day everybody on commentary and in interviews just started pushing the Cena GOAT meme. It was very obvious that some bullshit got passed down from the top brass to market his retirement tour. Completely inorganic shilling.I don't think WWE was pushing Shawn as the GOAT before the last couple years, moreso as it was just a prevailing consensus that organically arose within the company, of course Bret's name was bandied about a lot and that Bret or Shawn discussion is neverending. And in terms of draw, the discussion was always Rock, Austin and Hogan.
>>20991717This part. If I had to take a guess he probably didn't want the pressures of being THE guy and having the company lean on him in any major way as he had been prior since that's probably what fed into a lot of his drug abuse and addiction. It's pretty documented how paranoid it made Austin and how bad his drinking had gotten by the time he stepped down from that spot. Plenty stories about what a piece of shit Triple H was in the name of protecting his spot. Not an easy gig
>>20991775>Rock, Austin and Hogan
Shawn was pretty much the only guy who actually beat Cena clean via pinfall back then.
It's honestly more weird they put Cena over guys like Austin and Rock. They accomplished more in two years than Cena did in like 15.
>>20991695I have to say the Jim Ross impression here is a little tasteless.
>>20991695My hairline is starting to look like Shawn’s in that pic
>>20991906Gotta build towards the future brother
>>20991775>the discussion was always Rock, Austin and Hogan. It's Bruno, Hogan, Austin, Cena.Rock was second fiddle in the Attitude Era. Ratings rose as Austin rose. When Rock was on top while Austin was out they plateaued and eventually declined.Austin and Cena defined their eras just like Hogan and Bruno. Rock is in that Savage, Taker, HHH tier of the being top guy who worked with the actual guy. He could have been more but left in his prime. People will never accept it but that's the reality of that era.
