The Gabe and Drilla backstage promo is pretty good. Also the weirdest part is that neither of them say "AEW". Gabe just mentions "being on TV" or "wrestling in America" but they never name the company. Gabe even namedrops WWE. Also Wheeler Yuta just stands there like a Young Lion kek

>With Oiwa and Uemura generating so much excitement, it's a real shame about Umino. There's a high possibility that one of them could have had a chance if Umino had been absent.

>Ten years ago, when Kenny Omega's wrestling was all the rage around here, I thought matches like yesterday's wouldn't be popular anymore, so I'm grateful to these two for bringing him back into the spotlight.
>If Tsuji were to lose at Ryogoku in October, it would mean that the IWGP Championship title has been changing hands so frequently since Zack last year, with champions barely defending their titles. Is it normal for the IWGP Championship to change that quickly...?
>I think the Dome would be a good place for Uemura to win the title, and I think Oiwa would be a good opponent, so please hold it at the Dome the year after next.
>I think Oiwa has a lot of momentum right now, but if he were to win the belt at Ryogoku and be entrusted with the main event at the Dome, that would be quite a gamble lol
>Watching Oiwa, you realize just how profound professional wrestling is... He's learned the techniques, structure, and presentation from Ogawa, stemming from the orthodox classic American pro wrestling instilled by Baba-san of All Japan Pro Wrestling, which is the origin of Noah. He's also embodied the modern strong-style pro wrestling established by Inoki-san of New Japan, which fully showcases emotion and fighting in the ring, making him an incredibly well-balanced wrestler. I suppose his being sent to Noah was a series of coincidences, including the pandemic, but in a good way, I feel like Oiwa has become a crucial figure, like a missing link in the evolution of the pro wrestling world.

>20 year old Hatazawa fights out of the northern climes of Hakodate in Hokkaido. With a view to getting into pro-wrestling, Hatazawa started sumo in high school, managing to compete at the national level. After graduating from high school, Hatazawa found employment while preparing himself to join New Japan. He passed tryouts in 2024, and officially joined the Noge Dojo in April of 2025.

>Standing at 184 cm and weighing 95kg, Hatazawa's sumo training is an indication of his trending heavyweight heading into his debut match. He'll be wrestling Tatsuya Matsumoto for this special debut bout before joining cards on the Road to Destruction, including to his Hokkaido home prefecture. Oiwa becoming a god of wrestling over the course of the G1 surprised a lot of people but Ogawa publicly pushed to retain him as a student for another year because he was confident that he could make him better than Kiyomiya in that timeframe.
NJPW were super smart in putting him with Ogawa's student Zack so he could keep learning that style, and I imagine Hartley helped him gain a lot of mass as well. I remember Oiwa was still doing dropkicks when he first joined TMDK, lol

Hartley is the unsung GOAT partner for the young guys. I'd give that dude as many dates as he wanted as long as he worked with the young lions. Hell I'd even give him a NEVER trios run (maybe with Zack and Fujita?) so he could have some gold when the young lions inevitably go over him

>>
>>21020040
Said it before and I will say it again, Zack actually understands the business. Exhibit fucking A of that, he understands that he personally represents the opposite of what most wrestling fans (especially in Japan) believe in and, instead of bitching and moaning out of character about how heckin problematic the business is, just realised that it is natural heel heat and played into it. Note that since becoming more of a face in Japan he actually downplays the Corbyn-greenpunk-vegan stuff in favour of a more generic pop punk and love of wrestling angle (in terms of his promo focus) while in Suzuki-Gun he was pulling heat with even the other heels by grandstanding about shit. He works minimal dates in the US because he knows that he can be a rare attraction there but wouldn't get over as a weekly character. He worked on learning (very basic) Japanese for years but held off on busting it out until it was time for his ultimate babyface promo. Guy is the opposite of what I like as a person, and that is fine, I have nothing but respect for him as a worker and want him training young boys for years.
That said, >>21020028 is right as well, Hartley was doing great as a trainer in Australia (just look at how many guys and chicks that passed under his care ended up in major promotions after quite a dire period for Aussie wrestling that Hartley himself came up into) and it seems like New Japan are quite determined to keep him in a good visa and working.

Kyle Fletcher. I watched AEW PPVs sometimes to see their production botches and the occasional good match which mostly consisted of the Briscoes. Kyle's ok. I think MJF in Japan (sans-AEW albatross) would be really interesting. He's a good wrestler who can do the long epics or just short and sweet matches. I don't know if or how it would translate to the Japanese crowds. Any match he has with Yano, HOT or GOK would be hilarious though

Dory Funk Jr., who passed away recently, was my teacher, and it feels like the pro wrestling I learned from Dory has been passed down from me to Oiwa (rather than NOAH's pro wrestling). If you compare Dory's matches and Oiwa's matches, you'll see that they're doing similar things."
>Speaking of Oiwa, there's Kiyomiya, and Kiyomiya is also one of the wrestlers that Ogawa taught...
>Ogawa: "I taught Kiyomiya too, but he's gone in a completely different direction, and there's quite a gap between him and Oiwa. Oiwa is on a higher level. There's a difference between a wrestler who's happy beating a rookie in the first match and a wrestler who wins the G1, right? Well, we're talking about Oiwa, so let's leave Kiyomiya aside."

i still remember 2024 ALL TOGETHER and i thought that ueno was weird pick but lol

TMDK could die tomorrow, but I would like Oiwa and Fujita to start the next faction together

Why is he so insecure about being a little chubby?
>>
>>21027363
i think his plan was to "im going to wear a shirt or vest or whatever while im a heel and i will continually put on mass and get bigger and bigger then when i go face i will take it off and go back to the son of strong style"

but he still just looks kind of pudgy
>>
The knock on Narita coming out was that he was too small compared to the other two and maybe should've been a Jr Heavyweight, at least for a while. I think that is why he put the shirt on and basically cultivated mass for a couple of years.
>>
>>21026145
Eh, I think he’s still young enough to where he could turn it around.
>>

Dick Togo and SANADA keep walking around with yakbaks that only playback the Steiner HES FAT promo

What's the cope gonna be when New Japan goes back to heatless thigh-slapping bangerinos in two weeks?

We have Hontai vs. TMDK matches for the next tour, with Takeshita not showing up until Kobe. You can skip the rest.

Okada reign of terror was 100% worth it for the Kiyomiya feud
Funniest match in wrestling history
what the fuck was NOAH thinking?
>>
>>21028332
The only thing that mattered to/for NOAH that night were Mutoh and maybe Kento/Nakajima.
>>
>>21028418
Kiyomiya not mattering to Noah is kind of the problem tho

/r/ing pictures of Okada's pure expression of joy getting to treat Kiyomiya like a young lion
Especially that one face he made setting up the rainmaker

>>21027470
Yeah the problem is he's nto doing anything with it. He made himself look more like4 a heavyweight but he didn't actually improve his look at all. Infact his look may have gotten worse.
>>
man, Japanese wrestling is so bad an unpopular that everybody desperately holds on any slightly positive thing.

So assuming Oiwa loses at KOPW, who is Tsuji fighting at WK?
>>
>>21029469
Yuya
>>
>>21029484
And does he win?
>>
>>21029469
Either someone high profile from elsewhere that he can beat or Yuya. Im more concerned with what Oiwa does knowing hes not winning the title.
>>
>>21029520
I think so. I can see him beating Callum at KOPW, since he's lost to him twice this year, and then winning the belt.
>>21029527
I can see him and Zack winning WTL again, and beating KOB at the dome. Which I think is a pretty good full circle moment, considering that NYD match basically set the tone for the year

indeed, very grim.

As long as CMLL handles most of it then we wont have the awkward bullshit with the card that we do with STRONG shows.

I love how Tiny purposefully left O-Khan at home despite him being NEVER 6-Man champion and bringing Akira instead
