Love Kennii, his 2016-2019 run is the stuff of legend, but was he ever truly a great mind?
That ospreay match seems like a complete rejection of the idea that he ever truly knew how to satisfyingly piece a match together. Is he really the same guy that apparently brainstormed large swathes of the Okada matches and the Tanahashi match at WK, or was he just hard-carried by NJPW's agents and restrictions.

He sawdusted his ass into being half crippled by the time he hit America. I've only ever watched three omega matches, they were all in Japan and he looked incredible in all of them. Moves at half the speed in the tranny fed.

Who is he?

Japan is a different type of crowd. That's literally it.
>>
never heard of the guy

His streams and various interviews proved that he understood how things work very well. Quite old school in his mentality too. I just think he doesn't feel at home with the AEW audience desu and basically just does what he has to do for the company's sake instead of what naturally comes to him in japan. The difference between the first Ospreay match at WK and this last one is night and day.
He's also way too goofy. I tried rewatching some of his handlebar heel belt collector run and I couldn't believe that he thought that was a good idea for a year long title run.

A pedophile

Combo of being carried by Japanese booking and being in front of Japanese crowds. They love a gaijin who's willing to lean into their culture so long as he knows his place and understands that he'll never actually *be* Japanese.
Helped that he was also in his 30s. 40s can be a bitch.

He's always been goofy, that was his main drawback. Even back in the early 10s before he joined NJPW and was in DDT. You had to keep his goofy bullshit in check to get true kino.

The storytelling really was mediocre. Will won because he kicked out of the OWA after taking a 20 minute long beatdown? That's it? There weren't any real character dynamics going on. No intensity because the ending was telegraphed from the other side of the world. I understand them being careful enough to hit all the safe notes to send the crowd home happy, but come on now, have some guts, or whatever is left of Kennny's anyway. I was watching some 99 AJPW earlier during the week and that may have soured my feeling on their match. Even the non 4-pillar guys like Kikuchi were conveying more potent real emotions than whatever that was.

he's not a great mind but he is also so much better than the rest of The Elite. cool dude. great athlete

Yeah and remembering that the entire point of wrestling is to work said crowd then that makes the huge difference in styles and pacing make perfect sense, no matter how much they take it from one another.
>>
I think he's an awful pro wrestler. He's a terrible promo. He's not a serious guy. He really can't work with anyone who doesn't do the same stupid indy style he does. His matches always have selling issues and he does tons of dangerous stuff.

Thisola. His matches against Ospreay and Gabe in NJPW were like night and day switch flicks back to his prime NJPW style.
Bongsmarks are kings road fags so he did a more violent and brutal thing here. AEW american fans love indieriffic shit so he leans into that there.

That is way more on Ospreay than Omega. Ospreay is just a "gotta get all my shit in" wrestler. Omega actually knows how to put on an actual match like his one with Takeshita last year.

I really enjoy his posts actually. Does it make you seethe that he gives thorough responses or something?

many people are saying this

Dumb take. I wouldn't call Okada representative of the "indy" style and they did just fine together.
