Last time I went to a show I was in line for a drink and beside me was a Mexican with a WWE title belt replica. I looked at it and without hesitation the guy asked if I wanted him to fight him for it, I laughed, he didn't, he was being very serious.

I was at the house show on the road to WM40, at least a few weeks before it. Usos were heels then, they played a prerecorded video, in which I assume they did for every house show. The venue was big (it was the local arena) but the seats weren't sold out. People throughout the venue but you could definitely spot some empty parts if you looked close. It was my first time ever at a WWE event. For reference, I only got into wrestling as a whole around 2022, near autumn if I recall. Didn't know who anyone was except vaguely Stone Cold, and of course I heard of Dwayne because he was a movie star. Had zero idea who anyone was - Vince, Taker, Foley, you name it. I was doing it on a whim and wanted to see what it was about, so I started from right before Mania 13. BretAustin was what won me over. I could keep going, but the gist is after that I skipped segments of people I didn't know or were boring, ended up watching about 10 years of wrestling (97-07) in about 1 year, and uh, came to the conclusion that wrestling was ass for the most part. But what caught my attention was the then current angle of the Bloodline and Sami, and I was absolutely captivated by it. Still haven't seen anything like that since, by the way... Eventually I followed along and stopped my archival watching to be current, I was along for everything at that point. Still skipped shit I didn't know or care about, but I was watching at least. Seeing the climax of the angle, of Cody shoot getting his main event despite Rock trying to fuck him over, was something else. It almost made me believe in a magic called "pro wrestling". So, when I found out a house show was happening, and pretty much exactly wherw I was staying and I could walk to the event, I had to go. 40 bucks for near floor level seats. It was a maze trying to get to the seats, I'll tell you what. Of course, the food was much overpriced, and certain vendors sold out, to my surprise.
>>21136060I got there a little late so the show already started, but when I entered in and saw everyone performing, I honestly was stricken with some amazement. I didn't go to my seat, even though after the fact, they were really good. I stuck close to a pillar separating the east and west sides of the seats in that section, standing the whole time. It was surreal to see these people performing in person. See, when you just "consume" wrestling as TV, you can very easily disassociate. It becomes just TV to you. The risks and actions and strength and impact don't really register to you. But in person, you realize the reality of it. These real human beings are able to flip and jump and slam into or off of the ring, ropes, posts, tables, etc. It hit me all at once just how truly impressive and marvelous pro wrestling was as a spectacle. So I stood there, unmoving from the pillar, shifting my footing every now and then, the entire show. Only ever left to get overpriced nachos during a break. The lady at the counter gave me extra because I didn't ask for any toppings. If I recall, Sami was one of the opening acts which was cool, caught the tail end. Then came Omos. I had no idea who he was, but he was a big fucker. Even from a distance you understand how tall he was. Then out came Tozawa. My immediate first thought was "Who the fuck is Tozawa?" I literally never heard of the guy lol, maybe he was in a segment I missed at the time. Tozawa fought Omos but got tossed out. Don't remember much else after that.
>>21136064LA Knight came out, big pop. Don't remember who he fought, but he won the match, cut an on the spot promo I remember being decent. Becky had a match with someone, can't remember. Even bigger pop. Then KO. Holy fuck, the sound that erupted when his music hit. The arena wasn't full but you wouldn't believe that with how fucking loud the pop was. Easily the biggest of the night. Again, don't remember who he fought, but I sure as hell remember that. My ears were ringing for two days after the event, by the way. Last was the main event, and of course, it was Usos vs. Cody & Seth. Faces went over. I remember some black jackasses being shoot upset the Usos lost and left right after that happened, which was funny. Show was over, Seth's music played out. As people were clearing the building, it was then I got closer to look at everything and realized I missed out on my good seat, but such is life. Seth was signing posters and such for those who stayed, eventually left. Cody, though, he was talking to everybody. And when I mean everybody, I mean EVERYbody. Not a single person left ungreeted or something unsigned. There were a group of girls who rushed down to meet him and they squealed and such when he signed their stuff. Honestly, it was then that I realized that he was pretty cool. Can't fake being nice like that, if you ask me. And after seeing that, I was stuck with a feeling in my chest. "I want to talk to him."And him signing those girls' stuff was my best opportunity because he was relatively close to where I was. All I had to do was call him out. But... I couldn't. Don't know why. Guess I was worried about bothering him or something. Something stupid. But if you ask me......I wish I had.
I went to an nxt show in California. The crowd was really annoying yelling delete over and over again whenever a heel did anything. But I saw Bianca Belair for the first time and of all people Bobby Rood and Shawn Spears had a really good match.

>>21136060>>21136064>>21136068I also went to one of the house shows on the road to WM 40. There were similar wrestlers at the event as yours, same main event, no LA Knight though, and Omos fought the NXT guy who got fired because his gf framed him for domestic abuse or whatever. Also Rhea did this over the top stinkface on Nia Jax where she hiked up her ring gear way up her ass. It got posted a lot on here after. But overall the show was good too. The hype back then for WM 40 was crazy. I think that was the second of three WWE events I have been to, all house shows. The first being a show at the same arena in 2019 for The Shield's Last Ride and the most recent being a house show in July at the same venue.I have also gone to three AEW events. Never been to an indie show, even though my city has a local indie. But you are right, seeing pro wrestling in person really gives you an appreciation for it all.

>>21136147It's a shoot brother, that's how it all went down. Though if you're asking about how I watched WWE, yeah, that's true too. I literally skipped segments for people I didn't know about. Every now and then I gave some a shot, and it paid off, like Foley and Kurt. Though watching it all fast forward like that really exposes you just how bad wrestling is overall, and that's why I was captivated enough to go see a show when 40 was happening. It legitimately was that good. But now with all the stuff going on, the WM40 build was a complete freak accident; a mutation of a mutation, miracle of a miracle. I watched the supposed "best" western wrestling had to offer in the AE and wasn't that impressed, but it was definitely funny at times and Austin's my favorite wrestler cuz of it. And the Ruthless stuff just kinda sucked from the jump, save for people like Eddie and Rey and sometimes Batista. If you're wondering where I'm at now, I stopped watching WWE entirely since WM42 because those two years since 40 were genuinely some of the worst TV I ever bothered that kept getting worse to watch and I got sick of it. I sincerely have no idea how some of you have 10-20+ years of watching this garbage and stuck with it. There's genuinely so much other shit you can do. Why am I here then, you ask? Got no one else to talk about this shit with; even with the guy I know who likes to say he "grew up with it" (he only played the games.) And I dunno, it also passes the time and such. But I've been exposed to how this board is a complete fucking shithole and would wish death upon the bad actors as a shoot. Maybe soon enough I'll leave this board as well. But for now, you got my story in a summary.
>>21136147hell no, he's hyping the fuck out of wrestlemania 40 and even went out of his way to tell this story about how he doesnt even like wrestling anymore to make himself look objective or something lol he exposed himself here >>21136261where he seethed about the "bad actors" despite not being into wrestling at all, anymore despite how passionate he is about discourse. hes overtly expositional in a stilted, over-enthused (for his supposed disinterest) very performative way

>>21135882As a kid I went to a WWE house show in Vienna, Austria. Since I was watching Smackdown at the time I had no idea who a lot of these wrestlers was and it was clear there weren't many big names on the card until finally, some white guy came out with someone else who I presume to be a face at the time. He did his entrance, and then Umaga's music hit and he came out with someone I didn't know. People went crazy for him, and you could see on his face he wasn't expecting it. The white guy decided to work heel in that moment and sang the American anthem as some sort of obnoxious bit, you know how it goes. People boo him. Umaga finally attempts to enter the ring and the people go crazy. So they made a little game out of it. Umaga teased entering the ring and the white guy was being all obnoxious and everyone had fun. When Umaga actually went in he got the loudest pop of the night and won his match. I believe that was like a year or so before he died.

>>21135882Last live wrestling show I went to was the SMW show in hyden Kentucky that cornettes infamous dairy queen i n cident occurred. Show itself was pretty good. RNR Express vs. Heavenly Bodies main event was entertaining. Didn't know about cornettes dairy queen blow up til the following Monday at school, kim adams, the girl he called a bitch thru the drive thru window, was crying about the wrestlers in the restaurant, Tammy Sytch, Chris Candido, can't remember who else off hand, were mocking her til she stormed out. The manager, brack day, was all apologetic to cornette and the other wrestlers in the van, gsve them complimentary ice cream, according to kim. She quit dairy queen for a few days pouting over it til brack talked her back into coming back to work. Most note worthy thing that happened my senior year at leslie county high school back in '94. Hydens as boring as you'd imagine even back then.
Went to a Raw back in '05, I think. Only show I ever went to. Didn't enjoy it. Most exciting part of the night was a surprise Marty Janetty return.

>>21136261>I watched the supposed "best" western wrestling had to offer in the AE and wasn't that impressedYou fell for the hype. AE was popular, but it was slocky trash, which had become very popular at the time. The golden age of wrestling is the golden age for a reason. The wrestlers of that era were larger than life. You let the smarks talk you into Stone Cold and The Rock, when THEE pro-wrestling moment of all time was Hulk Hogan slamming Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania 3.You want good wrestling? You go back and watch the older stuff. Less flippy bippy, more intense promos, matches being put on by wrestler who ha at least all been in an actual fight at some point in their lives.
>>21135882>Timmy couldnt handle the Mexichad offering him a title match
One time I was outside an RoH show in 2007 at a college university and a pudgy guy with a weird quebecoise accent wandered up to a group of marks and asked "do you guys like wrestling?" It was Kevin Stowens.
This topic got me curious. I've only ever been to one wrestling event. I looked it up on cagematch and this is the one.The New Day vs. Cesaro/Kidd was in a weird spot. I think this was when both teams were heel/face turning, but ultimately, the match was still just incredibly entertaining.Fandango vs. Adam Rose. I flat out don't remember.PTP & ZR vs. Ascension & BD. I was the only person cheering for Zack Ryder at one point, but I didn't care. Even if it was just a house show, getting to see Zack Ryder get a win was nice. I also like a bunch of these guys even though they were stuck in the undercard, so I really liked it.The match after that of Dean Ambrose vs. Luke Harper was amazing. My friend who was with me, who didn't even like wrestling, even got into it. The small crowd was so loud and it was such an intense atmosphere. It felt like a PPV main event match. Then there was an intermission.Damien Sandow vs. Heath Slater started before the intermission ended. Felt like they were rushing them out there and it screwed them both. This was when Sandow had gotten himself mega over and Slater was always fun. So I remember being annoyed at the match starting while over half the people, including me, were still in the halls.Bella Twins vs. Naomi & Tamina. Completely forgettable.John Cena vs. Rusev was the main event. The outcome was also completely predictable. I remember caring about this match the least since it was in the era of Super Cena. The little kids loved it though. A bunch of small kids got out of their seats and ran down to the ringside shouting support for Cena. That was when I accepted that Cena did have an important role, it just wasn't for me.This was all back in 2015. It really was something seeing pro-wrestling live. I remember walking in, seeing the ring, stopping and having the strange thought that it was square. Like of course the ring is square. TV angles and video games sometime make it look rectangular though. Was a weird surprise.
i saw a house show in 2009 that had beeg vs sheamus and DX and Kofi vs Legacy
>>21144872>You fell for the hypeDon't get it wrong, I only say that after the fact. I barely knew of anything in wrestling when I started. It's actually kinda crazy how I didn't know and now I know so much... and also how much wrestling terms and memories and such get referenced even now in modern culture, but you wouldn't know unless you knew about it. Wrestling is a very self contained medium, ironically. But I'm just referring to retards who refer to AE as the "peak" of western wrestling when even that was so trashy. Maybe soon enough I'll go through the Golden Age stuff. What's a good starting point? Don't just say matches, I mean like an actual starting point to roll into the Golden Age, like how I used WM13 for the AE stuff.
