realistically, the ratings decline was after the Governor and the Prison arc where the show got kind of repetitive and a lot of the major characters were being killed off. Then there was the rise of streaming which was killing a lot of shows still airing on TV. I remember The Walking Dead was one of the only shows I still watched on cable at the time. A lot of my friends fell off the show because there wasn't a way to watch it live if you cut the cord and went to Netflix only.
