Here's my personal take. For that old man Rossy Ogawa, including Marigold, pro wrestling organizations are nothing more than "toys." He starts them up and then lets them crash... over and over. Sure, every organization has some level of this, but he relentlessly pushes his favorite wrestlers in matchmaking, then drops them once he gets bored—rinse and repeat. The sheer stupidity of keeping a wrestler who's already set to join WWE before the promotion even launches as the top ace. Why put someone who's about to leave right in the center? That terrible sense of judgment just turns me off. Of course, from HHH's perspective, snagging a talent with that much potential for a bargain price is a steal—nothing sweeter. So the lip service gets dialed up to eleven. Well, depending on how you look at it, maybe he couldn't scrape together the funding to launch without doing that, or maybe he couldn't cash in on the post-launch bubble. Either way, it just screams a total lack of talent for running an organization. And let's not forget, he came from Joshi's suit-wearing exec crowd, running things on a shoestring budget. Their sense of money and how they view wrestlers is predictably shallow. Turning a simple injury absence into a retirement... basically, the company's so broke they can't even cover treatment costs, right? Gotta be some desperate staff trimming. The wrestlers themselves are totally blameless. Plus, there's gotta be some panic in the mix. Stardom was supposed to fold from his aggressive poaching, but they held firm, and Uemura's sudden surge in public recognition led to a V-shaped recovery. Solid parent company backing helps. Thinking he can coast on his name value alone is just idiotic, plain and simple. It's almost impressive, in a way, that after tanking so many groups, he still hasn't clocked his own incompetence.

Weekly Pro's a bootlicker mag from the jump, steeped in that sycophantic culture—look at how Tarzan Yamamoto squatted there for years. Even swapping editors probably doesn't shake it loose easily. I haven't picked it up in ages, so who knows. Bottom line: Real revival of women's pro wrestling is impossible as long as Rossy Ogawa's lurking in the industry. Mai moving on is a genuine surprise. If she does have an injury that she needs to take time away and recover from then shows up somewhere else, whatever. If she pulls an Utami and appears in Stardom perfectly healthy days after Grand Destiny, that's shitty for her to do but well within her rights.

That said, there's nothing inherently wrong with players leaving promotions, especially in Japan where it used to happen all the time. It's only a recent phenomenon where it seems like everybody stays in one promotion forever even when it doesn't make sense to. Maybe Rossy is too willing to let them leave because of an old school mentality, but turnover in a wrestling promotion isn't a big deal. Fans need to stop being codependent and looking into everything so much.

TJPW, OZ, even Ice Ribbon all have things that are reasonably unique to them. What does Marigold offer to anyone beyond being a knockoff Stardom? If the older players think they are going to hold titles for a year at a time and beat everybody, then they are just getting in the way.
