If you perform in the West, you'll always be in the shadow of WWE. But outside of WWE, there will never be a bigger stage than NJPW, at least not in the near future. It doesn't matter if your company has more fans. Prestige means something, and prestige is a legacy that's built over time. And yes, AEW has more money and fans but what Tony has yet to understand is how to build that prestige.A huge part of it is that it can't just mean something to die hard fans. Die hard fans eat all this shit up with a spoon. AEW is pretty much all die hard fans. But prestige comes from casual fans being the bulk of your fan base. WWE has die hard fans but it's the casuals that make it special. And same with New Japan - while most western fans are die hards, the heart of the company is the casual Japanese fan who doesn't take this stuff too seriously but just comes to watch for a good time.And it's performing for those casual fans that make it all worthwhile, I think.
