the first reason is that hollywood hates it when you come in already having some kind of platform. agents, casting directors, producers - these people want you to walk through the door with nothing so when they give you your first role you're indebted to them for life for breaking you into the biz. morrison was never a main event level talent that could generate millions of box office buys off starpower alone, but he also wasn't a complete nobody, and probably just a bit too well known and established to be moldedalso, look at the wrestlers that have gone on to have successful acting careers... Dwayne, Batista, arguably Cena... all big mass monsters who almost exclusively play meathead action guy type roles. you put a t-shirt on john morrison and he looks like just a guy. there's already hundreds of those.
