It's always like this in every company. Little kids might enjoy Hogan and Cena beating everyone else for years but everyone else prefers the heel getting chased. It's cool when the face finally wins but after that it gets boring very quickly.

Austin never held the title for more than three months in a row as a face. Btw in the only multi-man match where he fought other faces he lost.

ROH sometimes had problems with this but they played it really well with Nigel McGuinness who won the title as a face and when the fans started turning on him after few months they just turned him heel and then he continued having a long reign like that.

The last time a multi man match has gotten anybody over was way back when Ziggler was the sole survivor at Survivor Series. Problem was Ambrose finally just became champion so it was too early to strip him of the title. Both Ambrose and Ziggler's popularity dropped from that feud.

Nigel had to turn heel because he got injured very soon after the win over Morishima. ROH fans were conditioned to almost always have a title match on a show (even if it was some jobber like Jimmy Rave or Adam Pearce), so Nigel missing for months and months while not vacating the title (Gabe refusing to change plans) pissed people off so they took it out on Nigel. He did turn it into a positive though
