I'm sorry but I just don't believe the Cornette narrative that if Dr. Death didn't get injured in the brawl 4 all that he would've been a main event star in the WWF

A hairy, fat, southern tough man wrassler with no character is the anti thesis to anything Vincer pushed on his programming, in any era

I just cannot see this guy and Steve Austin having a feud that would interest anyone

Even if Bart Gunn hadn’t knocked him out and torn his hamstring, winning a shoot tournament in a ring full of midcarders wearing boxing gloves wasn't going to turn him into a charismatic, main-event draw opposite Stone Cold
>>
>>21377616
What was that yeti looking cousinfucker gonna do against a white-hot SCTA? Baffling.
>>
>>21377616
He had no mic skills and was already injured, I don't see it either
>>
>>21377616
What I think it is is an reminder of the fact that, while Cornette has an encyclopedic knowledge of pro-wrestling that goes beyond that of anyone, say, on this board, he's also very fallible and can be very wrong about a great many things.
Which isn't to say you shouldn't listen to him if you enjoy him. But he's working a gimmick. It's important to take his analysis and anything beyond talking about shit that happened in the past with a hefty dose of salt because he doesn't always know what the fuck he's talking about though he definitely pretends he does.
>>
It's obvious to us sane folks that you never listen to a kek
>>
Williams was an awesome wrestler in the territories and AJPW but that would not have translated to Attitude Era WWF. Even with a manager to speak for him he was too much of a throwback for the fans to take seriously. People wanted characters and gimmicks that fit the 90s, Williams was still stuck in the 80s.
>>
>>21377616
if ken shamrock, a guy way more than legit than dr death, wasn't getting a main event push, why would dr death get one?
>>
>>21377791
>Williams was an awesome wrestler in the territories
actually, he wasnt. i saw him in real time during his uwf stint and it wasnt memorable at all. even bill watts came out years later and admitted steve wasnt the kind of wrestler you could build a territory around. you could tell watts had high hopes for williams during his time in the uwf but he just didnt have it. by the time steve won the uwf world title the uwf had ceased to exist. something i always though was funny.

>>21377803
If you ask JR it's muh college niggerball
>>
Cornette is still bitter about this guy flopping?
>>
>>21377616
Fuck russo for costing the wwf a trillion-dollar gate of Stone Cold Vs DR Death!
>>
>>21377616
where is the Cornette pushing for Dr. Death coming from. i thought it was all Jim Ross

from corny being a faggot for dr death.
>>
>>21377616
He was over in every promotion he was in newfag. God forbid you have an actual wrestler on your roster and not a promo machine.
>>
>>21378120
Then why was he never a draw in any promotion he was in? No one ever bought a ticket to watch him.
>>
I’ve only ever see him in all Japan, mid South, and a couple of wcw appearances. I have no idea how he would have worked in the crapitude era. That stack of dimes Austin calls his neck wouldn’t have survived.
>>
>>21378144
>crapitude era
For real. No clue how he would have worked today.
>>
>>21377616
I really think Cornette and JR were just trying to get their boy a big payday so he could hang it up.
The only thing I remember from his WCW run was that he almost immediately started injuring guys, I think Vampiro may have gotten the worst of it.
>>
>>21378061
they both had a hardon for Dr KWAB
>>
Dr. KWAB getting his ass beat in K-1 was hilarious. No wonder pro wrestling in Japan is a dead industry.
>>
When doctor death signed in 1998, WWF main event scene was incredibly thin. It was basically Steve austin, an injured undertaker, Kane (the worst wrestler alive then and now), and maybe Mick Foley. They absolutely needed main event heels, and Steve Williams absolutely fits that bill. The brawl for all tournament was just such a ridiculously stupid idea and took way too long.
>>
>>21378252
Tranny
>>
>>21378252
he fit the main event heel so much he somehow made it into the midcard brawl for all for some reason.
>>
>>21378282
I mean it was made specifically for him to win. It was just such a stupid idea. Also, this is the WWF. Vader was supposed to be a big bad monster and his push got derailed by a gay magazine model
>>
>>21378076
oh. always thought it was just JR. thanks
>>
>>21377616
This is the one guy from that era i dont get either. Just his promos alone were awful. He was never going to work in WWF. Imagine this guy in promo's against 98 Austin or when the Rock joined NoD.
https://youtu.be/8p2VPXv4Pcs?si=vTi4BDu2UJgNMg0e&t=818
>>
>>21377616
he wouldve been a 1 time main event guy at q B ppv and then he'd be fighting for tag and hardcore titles
>>
>>21378347
It was probably both considering they were all crossing paths during the prime jim crockett promotions/wcw and mid-south eras. I remember reading it was jr that was high on him when he came in way more as well, but it makes sense it was both.
>>
>>21378386
Worst haircut of all time. What a fake tough guy dork.
>>
>>21378386
He would've had a manager, and not only that Steve Austin would've absolutely wanted to work with him because he wasn't a mark for himself and would've actually done the job without issue
>>
Vince wasn't interested in pushing guys for being "good wrestlers", which isn't to say that he didn't push guys who were good wrestlers but he pushed them for other reasons. He was more interested in spectacle and what wrestlers contributed to that.
There are very good odds that Vince would have slapped him with a homo gimmick or something intended to be entertaining at the guy's expense.
>>
Yeah well I heard he wasn't even a real doctor and never killed anyone
>>
>>21378443
Idiot.
>>
is this the biggest most overhyped wrestler of all time? In terms of kayfabe and "irl feats"?
>>
>>21378462
You don't get it. When he was in All Japan he had Dave rated 5 star classics where he dropped Misawa on his head a bunch. I guess it didn't pay off in the long run but oh well.
>>
>death drop jobbers for 3 weeks
>have Vince cut a promo where he will pay dr death to break Austin’s neck again
>sell a bunch of ppvs cause people are worried about their hero not just losing but being paralyzed or even killed
This shit isn’t hard to write.
>>
>>21378475
Why is Vince cutting promos for this failure?

>When he was in All Japan he had Dave rated 5 star classics where he dropped Misawa on his head a bunch
This is the thing with him. He worked in the territories and in Japan, but he had no chance to make it in the WWF, just wasn't going to be a fit there.
>>
Could have given them the Vader push, which had a ceiling because Kane was the top monster and no one was going beat him out. They did need main event heels in '98 but he wouldn't have put butts in seats.

>in 1998, WWF main event scene was incredibly thin
Imagine the endless Austin/Bret kino we would have gotten if Vince didn't listen to that faggola Shawn Michaels.
>>
>>21377616
He had 0 promo ability
even with a great manager he was never going to be a main eventer or a very limited one that didn't last long.
he didn't have the aura that Brock had.
>>
>>21378137
He was just because your faggot ass gets all your wrestling knowledge from retards on youtube doesn't make you an expert in shit BITCH.
>>
>>21377616
Dr. Death and Terry Bam Bam Gordy were the scariest tag team in the world at one point and would have fucked the Road Warriors & Steiners up. That was then, this is now. Dude was way past his prime in WWF.
>>
Dr. KWAB the Dr of being a DEAD BITCH
>>
lucky punch
>>
Bart Gunn cost the company 500 billion dollars by knocking him out
>>

Ken was not a typical wrestler and he had a measure of control over his character and match outcomes that other guys didn’t have. That’s one of the reasons why he wasn’t in the main event scene. You can’t have both of those things unless you’re Hogan tier. Ken was over for sure, and I think he played a big role in getting the Rock over. But look at his record. He had about a 3 year run, wrestling 300 days a year and he was winning 80 percent of his matches and the 20 percent he was losing weren’t clean. Mostly matches where he was clearly winning and then “snapped” and got himself DQ’d which the crowd loved. He really only worked with a handful of guys, always went over or looked strong, rarely got pinned clean had plenty of 3 or 4 way dances and someone else jobbed.

Dr. Death would do business, he’s JR’s boy and JR was head of Talent Relations. And despite what all these people who weren’t alive saying it wouldn’t have worked, Austin vs anyone in that Era works. Jesus he wrestled Undertaker, Kane and Rock for 3 years straight. The feud was with Vince, it didn’t matter who was in the ring.
>>
According to Williams he had a main event angle with Austin in his contract and they were still going to do that in 1999. Now whether Vince would have ever gone for that we'll never know but we know that both JR and Cornette were heavily pushing for it.

It's good to remember that we're talking about an era where a ridiculous cartoon character The Patriot and immobile British Bulldog in jeans both had title matches on PPV.
>>
>>21378443
>Austin wasn't a mark for himself
LMAO

>>21380094
what were their martial accomplishments that made them the "SCARIEST HECKIN TAG TEAM IN THE WORLD" exactly?
>>
“This is Steve Williams talking to Steve Williams!”

Amateur Wrestling and Bar Fights. You gotta remember MMA didn't exist back then so Wrestlers were the toughest combat athletes.

They actually had John Tenta at that time. And instead of doing a natural Austin vs Earthquake feud, they put Tenta under a mask as one of The Oddities. It was one of the weirdest booking decisions of the time.
>>21378192
Both Cornette and Ross were marks who believed Doc was tough because he slapped around drunks half his size in Louisiana bars. Same reason they thought Bob Holly was genuinely tough for attacking people in fake matches. Williams's whole gimmick was throwing hard suplexes and clotheslines. There's no fucking way he could have done that safely with Austin and everyone in upper management must have been aware of that.
>>
>>21377616
Dr. Death's ceiling was the same for Del Wilkes before him, an anachronism that would have, at most, gotten one world title shot against Austin on PPV that would baffle anyone 20 years later
>>
>>21380094
>Dr. Death and Terry Bam Bam Gordy
Would have gotten raped by Doom
>>
>>21378061
Cornette has the famous clip on the DSOTR episode on the brawl 4 all, saying to Russo, "YOU JUST COST THE COMPANY 5 MILLION DOLLARS" or whatever amount he said
>>
>>21381003
LOL
>>
>>21381121
>Dr KWAB the retard who though he was shoot tough enough to win a shoot fight tournament wasn't a mark for himself
double KWAB for ya, pinhead
>>
>>21377616
The funniest long term work in wrestling is JR, 30 years later almost, STILL refusing to admit that he's bitter about the Bart Gunn thing and claiming that there was no intentional burial of Bart Gunn for that

I don't know why he still defends Dr. Death so ardently when Steve Williams then went to WCW to make fun of JR with Oklahoma
>>
>>21381530
Earthquake had lost too much weight at that point and had been cheapened by years of being a lower-midcarder in WCW. Mad that he was still only 35 at that point doe.
