“My lord, we have nearly arrived.”
Your navigator said as he pushed away a holomap. You looked through the viewport as the warship traveled at warp speed through the empty void of space. It had taken months to traverse the void between Andromeda and the old forgotten Milky Way, but it would be worth your while. A long time ago humans occupied all habitable planets in the galaxy, before a galactic war nearly wiped out the human race. The survivors built up new civilizations from the ashes, some barbaric, barely scraping sticks together to make fire. Others had recovered and built civilizations of their own, but far from the ability to travel between stars faster than the speed of light.
Ever since the first discovery of another distant human civilization, a lucrative business has sprung up, the Viking Raiders. We took the name from an old civilization on ancient terra and made it our own. The Space Vikings visit planets for one reason, profit above all. Precious metals, water, oil, slaves, all were free for those with the strength to take it.
“My lord, we’ve arrived at the Milky Way. We have multiple targetable planets that might be of interest. We can detect their radio signals ”
>Shamash: Strong radio signals detected, indicating a high level of tech. Old references indicate there were military bases and fortresses here back when they were in the galactic federation
>Parvati: Weak strength of radio signals detected. Whatever signals they did send must be local in nature. Old references indicate it was an ice world rich in resources under the ice.
>Adad: No radio signals whatsoever. Old records describe it as a world where farming and lumber were the main industries, but there’s no telling what could have happened here the ecology could have been destroyed in the war.

“Plot the course to Shamash. It looks promising.”
Your navigator nodded,
“Yes sir.”
You looked to the ship’s captain, Otto Haramon who looked aloof,
“Is everything alright?”
He shook out of something like he had just broken a long uninterrupted train of thought,
“Ay, nothing my lord.”
He took out his flask and unscrewed the cap with a practiced precision,
“It’s only been a while since I’ve gotten some action.”
He took a swig from his flask and wiped his face,
“I’ll go get the troops ready, just go on looking princely my lord.”
You nearly snapped at the disrespect but held your tongue, he was after all the most experienced commander you could have found for your warship. He was however, a commoner by birth, in other words a peasant. It was unheard of peasants such as him to speak to nobility in any way that wasn’t with humility and respect. Perhaps after the mission you could find a captain that knows his place.
The ship dropped out of warp at the near edge of the Shamash system. It contained a few minor planets, gas giants, dead white rocks, and then nearby the star there it was. The optical telescopes centered it on your main holoscreen. It was a reddish brown interspersed with green. There was some small water features that you could see from space. What captured your eye however, was the ring around the planet. Old hulked out ships surrounded the planet and had settled into orbit. As you closed in, you could see scars on the planet’s surface too, huge craters visible from space, sections where the surface was cracked. Evidently there was a battle here and the winner isn’t clear.
The communications expert spoke up,
“We’re close enough to interpret the signals. It seems they’re mostly military. I believe our languages may be mutually intelligible.”
>Send out an order on all frequencies, “People of Shamash, surrender now at once or be destroyed. We the Space Vikings demand tribute in resources. Your leaders have twenty four hours to respond.”
>Execute a nuclear first strike as a show of force to force surrender
>Scramble the fighter-bomber squadron as well as troop carriers to one of the major cities. We will raid with the element of surprise

Below Ravi the pickpocket was in the market, plotting his next move. In the great market of Precoz city one could buy anything. Recently an old piece of space debris crashed into the planet, now scavvers were spread out into the market ready to sell every bolt and spare wire. Now was the time to strike while they had money in their pockets.
Ravi thought back to his mom and sister back at home, he hoped he could steal enough to buy something to eat tonight. He finally spotted someone, he looked like he was military. Jackpot, army acquisitions always carried more cash than necessary. He carefully made his way over to the plain-clothed soldier. Walking the opposite way in the crowd, he bumped into the guy like he had so many times before, his hand slipped into the coat pocket but snagged at the liner. Instantly the man gripped at Ravi’s wrist, he twisted his arm around and held the kid up,
“Thief! I know just what to do with you.”
He took Ravi kicking and screaming around a corner before holding him down. Ravi cried out for help before the soldier punched him,
“Shut it.”
His hand moved to his neck and pushed down on his windpipe. Ravi was choking now.
“You little brat. Do you think I’m just some average soldier?”
He pulled up his sleeve showing four lines, “You just messed with one of the members of the tetrarch cartel.”
He unsheathed his knife,
“Take this lesson into your next life.”
Suddenly a bright light flashed and for a moment Ravi could see the skeleton of the man x-rayed into his eyes. All around him buildings splintered and crashed onto them. A deafening tinnitus fell over him like a scream. He pushed the man off of him and crawled out through the rubble. Ravi opened his eyes and saw nothing at all.
High above the warship floated down over the newly ruined city. The mood in the command suite was triumphant.
“Successful strike my lord, the city is destroyed, now they’ll surely fear us. What shall we do now?”
>Deploy search teams out to other cities escorted by fighter-bombers
>Reach out and take hostages from any government agencies that may exist on the planet
>Continue extermination efforts

My condolences. I like to do my typing in google docs, then copy and paste it into threads since I've had that same thing happen to me.

The warship hung over the horizon like an iron moon as fighter bombers spread out across the landscape. One happened upon an oil refinery, another located a crater where a mineral mine was. Within the day they returned with full loads which you personally inspected in the cargo hold.
You looked upwards at the oil barrels stacked high, calculating their worth in your head,
“Perhaps we could fetch a few million for this what do you think?”
Haramon spoke freely,
“Doubt it, we have a little under ten thousand barrels and market price is around a hundred credits. We might get seven hundred thousand if we’re lucky.”
“One hundred times ten thousand is one million…”
“That’s good you know basic math my lord, but we’ll have to sell them far below market price.”
You held your breath,
“Fine well what about these?”
Your eyes lit up as you combed through the trough full of diamonds and shiny rocks,
“These should surely net us a fortune.”
“Again my lord, you need to drop your expectations. Only a few of these are truly precious, we’ll have to see what they’re worth to the merchants.”
“That’s fine. We’ll just have to take more…”
When you returned to the bridge alerts were already flashing,
“Sir! The fighter bomber wing sent westward has taken casualties. It seems to be a large bunker complex fit with surface to air missiles. What will we do?”
>Divert two other fighter bomber squadrons to assault the position
>Insert a team of marines nearby to take the complex

A bunker, eh? Perhaps they're protecting something worth having

Sick quest so far btw

“Deploy the ground forces. Let’s see what they’re protecting.”
Captain Haramon looked displeased,
“Sir I urge you to reconsider. Casualties are basically guaranteed and-“
“I frankly do not care. Issue the order or you may have to find new employment.”
For a tense moment your eyes locked and Haramon looked as if he would say something. Instead he bowed in the traditional respect towards the aristocrat class,
“It will be done. I will drop down with the marines and command them personally.”
He made his leave and you slumped into the commander’s chair overlooking the bridge. All stations were manned by their respective officers, diligently tapping away at keyboards or analyzing holomaps overlaying fighter-bomber positions.
The viking business was all so tiresome. You had believed it would be easy to start a company of your own. It started off simply enough, you propositioned your father with the idea and he was able to get an old school friend who was a naval admiral to decommission this warship for free. Then he lent you an interest free loan to pay the initial salaries of the crew. The problems only started there. You were only a business major not some military leader, you embarked on this hoping you could send them off and reap the profit automatically, yet this venture is requiring a lot more micromanagement than you hoped.

Otto Haramon donned his tactical dress, the black fatigues along with a bullet and laser resistant chest rig. He strapped his helmet to his chin as he cursed to himself,
“Damn spoiled brat…”
He entered the cabin of the drop ship already full of waiting Vikings.
“Alright men. I’ll be taking personal command of this mission. Here’s what we know so far: these neo-barbarians are heavily armed and highly motivated to protect this facility. What lies underground must be extremely valuable to them.”
He paused for dramatic effect,
“Ay, I look among all of you and see nothing but warriors. Today we earn the title of Viking, and it is high time that the savages learn their place!”
The men erupted into cheering along with their captain.
“Today,”
He thought to himself,
“They die for nothing.”

The dropship sped through the red wasteland at a breakneck pace, the expert pilot dodging and weaving the terrain. He was low to the ground as to stay invisible to the primitive radar technology. The ship suddenly lurched and Captain Haramon knew it was the signal to dismount. Before the squad could even exit the dropship they took automatic fire. The marine to his left fell with a bullet to the visor and he could hear bullets wizzing all around him. The squad lashed out with fire of their own, gauss rounds and rocket strikes destroyed whatever protective force was topside of the facility.
As the second dropship arrived he looked around and assessed the situation, one marine lie dead and three more injured from the rapid machine-gun fire. He ordered the dropship pilot to take the wounded back to the warship. He saw a couple of options at hand.
>Delegate one squad to wipe out the missile silos while the other breeches the facility
>Utilize the whole platoon to take down the surface to air missiles. Air support will be critical
>Fully commit both squads to assaulting the compound
>>
>Utilize the whole platoon to take down the surface to air missiles. Air support will be critical

Taking whatever is here will be useless unless we have a ride home.
