In 1099, Jerusalem burned. After the capture of Jerusalem in the First Crusade, The Knights Templar opened the Gate of Hell, swallowing up Jerusalem and committed the Ultimate Act of Heresy. Demons walked the earth and the heretics butchered the innocents for their new unholy lords. Hell versus Heaven. The Heretics against The Faithful. The battle for humanity’s soul and Earth began. In the trenches. In the sea. In the churches. In the hearts and minds. For eight hundred and sixteen years, the war raged on. Humanity is on the verge of defeat and no miracles have yet to turn the tide of war. “Your Father would be proud, Margrave.” Liar. You adjust the badge on your left chest bearing the ancient coat of arms of your family. His actual saber lacked frills, not even an intricate handle. The sabre was shorter than the average, with a wide handle, not that you didn’t have a trench melee option but carrying his sabre was the least you could do. For now, you rested the sabre on the rack with respect. You walked outside of your room and exit your home, and see the scenery of the ocean, cruel and vast. Your cloak danced as the harsh winds blew. Looks like the weather is getting harsher than usual. The grey sky choked the sun, drenching the horizons with darkness. You glared at the ocean. Unlike other margraviate, you faced a two front war. One in the peninsula, and the other in the sea. A heavy sigh escaped your lips. You turn your head to the battlefield, pounded by artillery, fouled with heretical blood, and kept holy by the blood of martyrs. How did father remain so stalwart against two hellish fronts?“Lost in your thoughts, milord?”Your seneschal, Edward gazed at you, easily hiding the concern in his voice. The folds of his old wrinkly skins creased. While he was inscrutable to many servants and soldiers, you knew him your entire life. “Yes, I suppose I am.”“It is a momentous occasion, today is your first day as the Margrave of Maria.”“It doesn’t feel momentous.”He chuckled. “That’s because you have work to do. I’ll have some servants deliver your morning fast.” For most of your memories, you and father spent more time in his study than anywhere else. You sat on his chair, only filling half of the seat. The books on the top shelves required a footstool, not to mention the desk was a bit taller than you imagined. Edward said he’d bring a taller chair later. You stare at the pile of paperwork. With a sigh, you began. The Margrave’s defense consisted of:Artillery, for both coastal defense and the battles.2500 men, 300 being support personnel.7 destroyersThen there were rations, and other details of a Margrave you read through. Pretty sure I know who actually opened the Seals of King Solomon, same ones who opened the gates of Toledo, Constantinople, etc... Some might call them "Skaven."
With a tired sigh, you retrieved your letter knife and began reading once more. Most letters were congratulations of your ascendancy. Others were simple business such as the bank, New Antioch head administrators introducing themselves, and general matters Edward could take care of. Few of the letters were from fellow Margraves. Much like father, they were men of few words, addressing you of important matters without the frivolities of flowery court etiquette. “I suppose I’ll have to reply to them, don’t I?”Edward nodded. “Indeed you do, my lord.” You let out a tired sigh, for the third time, then grabbed your fountain pen and grabbed a paper. By afternoon, you dunked your cramped hand in a cold water bowl and let out a tired exhale. The grandfather clock read 1130. Despite being a momentous day, it’s been quiet. “My lord, shall we break for an afternoon meal?” “Not yet, I want to stretch my legs for a bit. Alone.” “My lord, roaming alone is improper and dangerous. It will not look well. At the very least, a cohort or—”Even outside your study there were two guards. Wherever you went a guard or a sniper tracked you in the margraviate. A margrave was more than a position, he was a symbol of resolute, faith, and duty. You hummed. “But father went alone all the time, didn’t he? And Absolom is watching me.”Edward adjusted his monocle and nodded reluctantly. “As you wish, my lord.” You grinned. “I’ll be off.”The Margrave was a mix of Fortress and a town. Tall walls overlooked the seas, below the battlement the men of Maria carried out their duty. Be it carrying food to the workers, or the fierce training of shocktroops, you were proud of not only as their lord, but as their protector. They were more than mere subjects, these were the people that made Maria run like a well oiled war machine. “Good morrow, m’lord.”“A fine day, m’lord.”“Out for a walk, m’lord?”You greeted every subject you walked by. The Red BrigadeNormally, they would be in the forefront of any harshest and foulest battlefield, seeking out the most dangerous of foes. The Red Brigade of Maria however, were different. While they are still experts of deadly assault, the Red Brigade were formed from the soldiers who died defending Maria. “My lord.”“Lieutenant. How are you?”The man with a grim gaze and afternoon stubble bowed. He donned a red armor and helmet. This was Lieutenant Silas, the right hand man and a reliable man of Captain Grieves. “I’m well, thank you, your lordship. I’ve noticed you’re wandering without an escort.”You suppressed a sigh. “I thought it’d be nice to have some time to think on my own. And Absolom is watching me I’m sure.”“I must insist you travel with an escort so Father Absolom can work and a sniper can only do so much. If you are killed, my lord. The entire margraviate will be in great peril.”The determined gaze of his crushed your selfishness. You nodded with a reluctant but understanding huff. “I… I understand.”He saluted, placing his fist over his heart. “Thank you for indulging in my selfishness.” You patrolled the rest of the margraviate and its defenses. While they were satisfactory, it’d be good to strengthen them, but the supplies and gelts you get from the principality were coming from a month from now. Sure, your margraviate was well maintained, but maintaining a fortress town was no easy task. “Say, Grieves. What improvement do you think is required for the margraviate?” “The walls, more ammunition perhaps…” Silas rubbed his chin. “I’m afraid I don’t know much about marine defense. That’d be Captain August’s field. I’m certain everyone has their own opinion on what must be improved. But I can narrow it to three aspects. Logistics, land, and sea.”You turned to the sea, and to the castle, then finally to the No Man’s Land. “That is much to ponder on.” He placed a reassuring hand on your shoulder. “You will find your answer, and you are not alone.” After much pondering, for now, you decided to focus on… >Logistics >Land>Sea

Logistics. The ports needed minor improvements such as upkeeps and small repairs. The roads however required more care. You sat in your study with the map of your margraviate and a cup of tea. The road improvement would require a company of engineers and guards, reallocating manpower was always a risk, but with the Red Brigade, the defense would remain stalwart. “Edward, other than roads, what other ways can we improve logistics?”“We could use more vehicles for carrying out supplies, and a dedicated force for escorting them. There will be times where we must send them for supplies in emergencies.” “Like a courier squad?”He adjusted his monocle. “Perhaps a company. We are rather far from New Antioch. Also, how about expanding the field for more crops or another herb garden?”You read the map and looked back up. “We don’t have the space.” “Yes, but there is the garden.”“The garden… Right.” Father once said the garden was tended by your late mother, was being the word. The old garden was already transformed into a private training ground where you and Father spent time together. You could easily put away the equipment and make a herb garden there. “We don’t have that many herbologists, this would be a long term goal, as will be the road upkeep.” You pondered on the options to choose from.>Make the garden a priority>Make the road improvement a priority>Make courier company a new priority
>>6434436>Make the road improvement a priorityThe benefit of our coastal location is that the Margrave has a chance for more goods and supplies. “The courier company seems easy to create and the quickest to be completed. Have that as the priority and start with the others as well.”Edward bowed. “By your will, my lord.” Nothing much happened after that. Since the margraviate did not have enough motorbikes, only a platoon was formed, but a request had been sent to New Antioch. Along with a platoon, new posts were created throughout the margraviate and one near New Antioch in case a sensitive message needed to be sent. A month had passed since their creation. Most of your work have been administrative, you had little time to train and visit the men. Your presence bolstered the morale of men when you visited, but that was all you could do. Managin your land was more work than you thought. “Rragh!” You side stepped from the polearm, then lunged with your saber, flicking your wrist. Your master-at-arms, Toussant, twisted his polearm to parry your counter. You went for another lunge, but the polearm slithered its way to your feet and tripped you. “Ugh!”You hit the floor with a heavy thud.“Ow…” “We can try again, young lord.” You took Toussant’s hand and got up. You wiped your sweat. The fabric of your white shirt clung on to your chest as sweat dripped from your head. “A good bout.” Toussant said. “I fear you have become too busy to train.”You took a swig from your flask of water. “I still have to train. What’s a Margrave without his martial prowess.”He nodded affirmingly. “Indeed, a margrave is a different breed from those pig nobles. I also heard you’ve read through some of the marriage proposals. The rumor is, there is one from—”The door to your training room burst open. One of the couriers first bowed and shoot out his arm with a scroll. “Apologies my lord but I bring urgent news!” You grabbed the scroll stare at the seal of New Antioch, specifically, the seal of— “The Synod of Strategic Prophecy Headquarters…” You swallowed the lump in your throat. “When was this letter sent?”“Only two days ago, milord.” The courier said. “It’s thanks to our new posts and motorbikes that we got to you quickly, thank the heavens!”You opened the scroll. Margrave BasiloneThe Synod of Strategic Prophecy Headquarters have prophesied an offensive from both sea and land in 11 days. They will come at night, then begin their assault at dawn. Additional reinforcements are being discussed along with additional divining. God be with you, and your soul ever pure.-The Synod of Strategic Prophecy HeadquartersYour hand trembled. So much yet so little were told… You placed the scroll on the table and took your coat. >“Send words to strengthen our position immediately!”>“Send a courier to my study; I shall have him send a letter to request reinforcement from New Antioch immediately!” >“Send words to post scouting parties immediately! >Write-in
>>6434926>“Send words to post scouting parties immediately! What an innocent child
>>6434926>“Send words to strengthen our position immediately!”I mean...we should really do all three, but I think this has priority. We're receiving divination support, and the enemy is eleven days out from us, scouting that far out seems a bit premature. But any engineering and maintenance work that needs doing ought be taken care of, we need to dig in.
>>6434926>>“Send words to strengthen our position immediately!”We should reduce shelling off the coast to feign weakness and low ammo, then unleash hell on them when they attack. Or we could make a fake "weak point" in our lines and then encircle them when they push too far deep.
>>6434926>“Send a courier to my study; I shall have him send a letter to request reinforcement from New Antioch immediately!”We literally just improved our communication efficiency, and reinforcements aren't quick. So to make sure they get here we should send word out to the right people ASAP.

Rolled 1 (1d2)Since there's a tie, I'll do it by dice1. Courier2. Defense
“Send words to strengthen our position immediately!”The swift departure of the courier became your priority for the day. After that, you headed to your war council. The moment you entered, the men of distinguished positions saluted in the tense air. “At ease, gentlemen. Take your seats.” You observed their faces, and none of them seemed perturbed, hardly bothered. The Captain of Red Brigade, The Captain of Maria Naval Strike Force, Absolom, The Commander of Maria Yeoman, The Quartermaster, anyone who was someone was in the war council. On the table was the map of Maria, with various wooden carvings to symbolize assets. The walls were damp, the air cold and thick with tension. “Report.” “The men have begun fortifying the trenches and walls. I’ve doubled the guards and the shifts.” Commander Yard of Maria Yeonman said. “As for the scouts, I am still deciding on who to send due to their lack of experience in scouting.”“The Red Brigade stands ready, be it assault or defense.” Captain Grieves said. “A patrol has been established and the ships are on 24 hour standby.” Commander Tross of Naval Strike Force said. Most importantly… “How are the supplies looking?”The Quartermaster nodded. “We are always ready for a siege lasting a month, but without knowing the forces and how long we might be under siege, I cannot report if we are truly prepared.”“I see.” You stared at the map of Maria. “My lord, I recommend we prepare our defenses solely in Maria. We know when they are arriving, there is no reason to post scouts.” Commander Yard said. “The Red Brigade can, however.” Captain Grieves said. >“No, have the Red Brigade here.”>“Have the Red Brigade stand guard in other outposts.” “Quartermaster…”>“Have the farmers harvest whatever they can now.” (if chosen, there will be bonus to ration but after the battle food issue will arise)>“Continue as you are.” “And Commander…”>“Have every able bodied man posted. “No, have the Red Brigade here. Quartermaster, continue as you are. And commander, have your men focus on the fortification, have the farmers or other subjects to them if you must.” You gazed upon your men, hardened by war, wise through hardship, then there was you. They saluted, steely eyes promising duty and loyalty. You saluted back.“This meeting is adjourned.” After they left, you stayed inside the war room. The map of Maria and the No Man’s Land stared down, as did the contested open waters. An assault of an unknown force. What could it be? The Black Grail? The Heretic Legion? The Seven Headed Serpents? You hung your head low. Two thousand lives depended on you… How did Father ever withstood the burden?“My lord, it is time for supper.”“I… I don’t have an appetite, Edward. Fetch me something simple, will you?”“Right away, will you be dining in your study?”You nodded. Inside the study, you poured over the documents of various battles occurred in the Margrave and copied various strategies used. As the sun dipped, darkness unfurled its black wings. The courier had yet to arrive… Your hands clenched together as your thoughts began to run wild. If not for the terrain, you’d have a phone line set up all the way to New Antioch. Perhaps that would be your second project after the assault. “It’s time to retire, my lord.”After washing up, you laid on your bed. While the master bedroom was to be yours, the scent of father’s lingered, and the bed was far too large for your liking. No, you were content with being in your room for now. The priests and the nuns tended to the fields. “Good morning my lord.”“Good morning.”You greeted the people of the church as you made your way inside. The empty interior echoed with your footsteps, as did Edward’s five paces away. The last time you were here was at your father's funeral. The air was cold, but the candles were warm. “Milord.”A woman with red hair in a habit approached. She held a basket of freshly dried herbs and freshly picked greens. A flowery voice spoke from her red lips, and her hair sprung with each of her steady steps. What was a nun doing such manual labor? Better yet, how do you not recognize her?“Good morrow, sister. May I ask why you are engaged in physical works?”She wiped her forehead. “I’m a laysister, milord.” “She arrived here a month ago, under Apothecary Cloves, she is from the schola.”Someone that important?“Ah, I did not know you have arrived. Forgive my absence in your welcome, sister.” She shook her head. “It’s no trouble at all, I know I arrived at an… Inopportune time. I do not dare ask for your time when you are so busy.” “Thank you for your understanding.”You stared at her a little longer than you’d like. You harrumphed. “I shall be off to pray, until we meet again.”She bowed. “Lord bless your path, milord.” You knelt at the altar, staring up at the iron cross, hands tightly folded together. “Lord…”You prayed for everyone in the margraviate, and the strength to fight off the invasion, and prayed for his presence. Your heart… It remained unlit and dark. You stared off once more, and chose to pray once more with the patron saint of the margraviate. “O, pray for us. O, pray with us. “O, pray for us. O, pray with us. Our patron saint, Saint Nicholas of Myra. Give us safe passage on the waters, and give us strength to defeat our foes, o Lord. Give us strength to withstand the foul evil as the bulwark of the just. In your name, amen.” You stood up, and let the silence soak in your heart, then headed outside the church. The air was cold, the footsteps of the heavy infantry echoed faintly, drowned by the crashing waves of the ocean cruel and impartial. in the small dark corner of your heart, you feared that prayer would do no good against the upcoming assault. With a heavy sigh, you return to your study. “My lord,” Edward said. “If you wish to sigh, it is best to do in the private of your study, lest you give the people something to worry about.”You nodded. Beside your study just read various maps of the magraviate, ensuring you have not missed a single wall or fortification. “Has the quartermaster reported the inventorying?” “Not yet. Shall I fetch him to your study?”You shook your head. “No, he can take his time.” The rest of the afternoon went quietly. You even watched the children playing knights and princess out in the field. You smiled as their giggling went on, ignorant of the world. One day, you prayed your children would have such a future. No war, no evil, a world free from terror. A life of—“Enemies by the shore!” The belltower rang. The children dropped their toy swords and dolls, fleeing and screeching helplessly. “My lord you must get to safety! conserve ammo vote wins, and revolver is the winning sidearm
You ran toward the coastal walls with your six shot revolver, while that wouldn’t do much having your presence mattered more as the new margrave. Up on the walls, raider class ships fired its low caliber rounds as it sped around like a chicken without its head. If they truly wanted to strike, they would’ve done so. “Have your men conserve their ammo and shells, they’ll return once they get what they wanted, and we’ll be ready for them. Prioritize defending the wall rather than destroying them. Fire just enough to ensure they're unable to approach the walls and prioritize preventing intelligence gathering as much as you can.” “As you command.”The cannons’s roar and shockwave soaked through your bones, Though you were told not to be on the front of the walls, you did small menial tasks like bringing more grenades and ammo cans. You were certain they didn’t notice midst the chaos, and if they did you hoped they knew you were with them. “Our lord is watching us, show him the might of the Maria Marines, the might of the Trident!” The marines roared, firing with more righteous fury than a castigator. You shouldn’t, but you wanted to. You ran to the walls, blood surged with pride and righteous fury thanks to the marines. You unloaded your revolver, thought you doubted you got a hit, once out of rounds you even picked up a bolt-action rifle and joined the ranks. “Harpoons!”You snapped to one of the gunners and fired among many riflemen. The hreretics on the harpoon guns flew in pieces, shredded by the rifle volley. A cannon hit the wall, causing a plume of smoke to rise as the ground shook. “Hold!” You screamed. “They’re here to test our defenses, nothing more! This is what they are, cowards who sold their souls for power and greed! Crush them under the might of our power!” [3/11] Days till the assault. The defense held, only one of five ships were sunk. The next day, Commander Tross and the Quartermaster did report the conservation of ammo was a success during the engagement with no casualty, though there were few wounded they were expected to recover. Not to mention, the marines became far more motivated after your display on the walls. Inside the study, you spread out various information of the margraviate as you organized your thoughts.“My lord,” A servant knocked on the door. “A courier is here to report.”You stood up so fast the chair nearly tipped over. “Send him over immediately!” After reading the letter, you slammed your fist on the table. “Damn it!”Your request for reinforcement was denied, citing that your current resource was enough. Enough? Against the heretic fleet? If an assault was so large you received a message from the synod shouldn’t it warrant a larger reinforcement?

School visit wins, and sending the letter again wins.
Whoops I did not count the new votes, looks like navy option wins
You wrote another letter with more reasons to send reinforcements, urging them to reconsider, at the very least, to send supplies. After the courier left, you slammed your fist on the table. The fine china and the tea cup rattled, the pen holder fell, scattering the quills and pens on the table. “Damn those bureaucrats! I’d like to see them deny reinforcements when the heretics are breaching the walls.” You punched the bridge of your nose and sighed. A margrave should be emotional for the briefest of moments, as that is the most they can afford. “My lord!”“It’s the young lord!” You waved at the sailors and marines as you made your way to Commander Tross’s office. After shaking one sailor’s hand, it became a whole affair until their sergeants came to stop it. You wouldn’t have mind shaking their hands, they were all great men. Father always took care of his troops, and they replied with double the effort. A lord provides, protects, and motivates his men, not only out of duty, but for the love of his fellow men. “Commander Tross.” You greeted. Inside his office, various documents and maps were either pinned on the wall or on his table. On the war table at the center of his office, small carvings of ships and forces were placed. A scent of salt, ink, and candle wax filled the room. Tross had baggy eyes, one you were getting familiar with. “My lord.” He stood from his seat. “At ease, commander.” “Forgive the surrounding my lord. I did not expect another visit.” “And I did not notified you of a visit. Be at ease, commander.”You pulled the chair and sat down. Tross and you began a lengthy conversation about coastal defense and his thoughts of the vague warning of the assault. “Mercenaries? What about Trench Pilgrims?”He shook his head. “They are an entity of their own, and they will not listen to your orders so readily. If they believe your order is against their holy plans, they will not listen, and some are… Driven to the point of being mad. They also travel in large processions, and we will not be able to sustain them if it comes to a siege.” “I see… As for mercenaries, do you refer to the Eire Rangers?”He nodded. “They are one option, yes. I only mention them to provide other options to bolster out forces.” As for the naval forces, you decided to…>Establish a patrol around the margraviate on the waters, reducing men on the walls and watchtowers.>Double the men on the walls and watchtowers, reducing the patrols on the waters After that, >You visited the margraviate’s school>You visited the yeoman, the regular infantry and the backbone of the margraviate>You visited the Red Brigade, the spear tip of every assault>Write-in>You visited the new apothecary again

As for the naval forces, you decided to establish a patrol around the margraviate on the waters, reducing men on the walls and watchtowers. While you did not like the idea of reducing numbers on the wall, an early warning can give advantages to the defense, big or small, you needed them all. After that you visited the yeoman, the regular infantry and the backbone of the margraviate.“Lord!”“Young lord, good afternoon!" Pride swelled as you watched your men greet with gusto and strength, they will need that soon. Like with the sailors and the marines, you spoke to them and thanked them for their bravery. Commander Yard was already there, as if he saw into the future, though more likely he expected a visit from you instead. Even his office was clean, almost sparkling from the looks of it. “I suspect you’re here to discuss the current defense strategy?”“I am, but I will neither claim expertise nor superiority with my title. What is your take on this?”He scratched his chin, but smiled. “Is there something amusing in my question?” You asked politely. “No no, my lord.” He quickly said. “It’s just… I see so much of your father in you.”“I do?”“More than you think, my lord.” He harrumphed. “We can talk more about that later. As of now since we do not know what we are facing, I suggest we keep our soldiers in the walls, with few but experienced scouts scattered.” You nodded. “Then sounds like a good plan. What do you think about mercenaries?”His face scrunched to a scowl. “We cannot trust them.”“Even the Eire Rangers?”He shook his head. “It does not matter who they are, we cannot trust them.”“I see.”“My lord, are you considering hiring them?”“We must keep our options available. We have been denied reinforcements from New Antioch, and with unknown enemies I must consider it.”He leaned forward. “As your adviser, I must discourage you. All they care for his money and glory, a hint of defeat will have them flee like the cowards they are.” “Then what do you suggest?” “To trust in your men, your commanders, and the lord. Margraviate Maria have withstood against the tide of evil for for decades and it will continue to do so.”You left his office and went back to your study. The courier have yet to return, but maybe you could go to New Antioch yourself, petition to the duke, maybe even look for mercenaries yourself. >Commit to traveling to New Antioch (+4 days to travel)>Send someone to petition to the duke and to look for mercenaries to hire (choose someone)>Stay in New Antioch and wait for the courier

[5.5/11] Days till the assaultWhile it was no procession, Captain Grieves commanded a small detachment of the Red Brigade to accompany your travel with Lieutenant Silas as your personal guard, leaving Edward to look over your margraviate for the time being. The travel to New Antioch was quiet, with the thought of the upcoming assault weighing heavily on your mind. You idly watched the trees on the dirt road, then the villages and towns near New Antioch, then to the gate itself. The Gate of Saints.A towering gate made of thrice blessed metal, stone, and unknown materials, stood stalwart as it always has for centuries. Various saints were carved intricately, so detailed they might as well jump off the gate itself. The guards were no ordinary yeomen, but the elite agents of the Inquisition with heavy infantry. The agents poked and perused every cart and people seeking entrance, eyes sharp like daggers and steps quiet as a mouse. “Next!”The heavy infantry walked in metal slabs they call armor, heaving machineguns and shields with no issues thanks to their blessed armor. You had the windows lowered and nodded to the agent. “From the coat of arms, you must be…”>“Margrave Russel Dunwich of Margraviate Maria?”>“Margrave Bertrand Dunwich of Margravaite Maria?” >“Margrave Henry Dunwich of Margraviate Maria?”You nodded as you handed him your documents. “That’s right.”“Purpose of visit?” “To seek assistance for my margraviate.”He stared at you longer, but not to the lieutenant, then gave back the document to you.“Proceed, Margrave.” After settling in New Antioch’s temporary lodging for Margraves, you quickly decided on an action. Even if you smelled from the days of travel or hungry as a horse, you needed to make the days count. >Go to The Synod of Strategic Prophecy Headquarters to request an observer or at the very least get more information [+0.5 Days]>Seek the Duke of New Antioch, beseech him for reinforcements [+0.5 Days]>Write-in Sorry for the short update. “Wilbur Henry Bertrand Dunwich, of Margraviate Maria.” At the gate of the SSPH (Synod of Strategic Prophecy Headquarters), you stood at the gate like everyone else, offering a polit greeting to the gate guard before approaching. You paused, the tower of the SSPH stood tall, stalwart, as if to reach the heavens and go even beyond. Antennas stuck out like thorns and metal wires wrapped around the tower like a jealous serpent. Even the gate guard at SSPH carried an imposing aura, clad in holy steel armor and heavy automatic weaponry. The main hall was quiet, drenched in quiet gray with zero decoration. The silence’s intensity would make your heartbeat heard and echoed. “Lord Dunwich.” A servant in grey cloak waited at the end of the main hall. “Yes, that’s me. I’m here to seek—”“An Observer, your request is denied.”“Why?”The servant remained still like a statue. “An observer must remain in the synod to conduct their holy work. Only in the most dire circumstance an observer will be sent. An assault on a margraviate does not count as a dire situation.”“Getting a vague prophecy doesn’t help us prepare, please, if we can get some words—”“Tell me, Margrave. For what reason should we send an Observer, a soldier of God who spent years hearing His words when there are so few?”“My—”“If your answer is to fulfill your duty and to protect your people, do not waste my time.” You gritted your teeth and steadied your heart. >Write-inSo, like I said here >>6440345 a very good reason is required, even as a Margrave's duty will not be enough. Can you not see that it is no accident on the day of my assigment of the sacred duty that the enemy would make moves to attack by both land and sea, in the same moment God revealed the word to you most holy hearers of his words heard the warning sent by him of the impending attack. God has seen fit to endorce my holy goals for punishment of the wicked and heretic in the same way they seek to snuff it out. If the Syond offers me this boon i swear not only shall i achieve feats worthy of the trust placed in me by man on earth but also by God in heaven. but i shall promise that the synod may build a temple to inspect my people for any children who show the aptitude for hearing the holy words to be lifted to that sacred task" basically we are not only saying that because they heard from God that we were going to get jumped that God has deemed us important, but also promising them a stake in our growing margrave to find more children to add to their radio programs, this will also increase the resources sent to protect us in the future if they invest in making us one of their recruitment zones the sad part is this means we're likely to split mothers from children in the future but heavy is the head that wears the crown and all that
>>6441917I don't know enough about the TC lore but the message we received was:>They will come at night, then begin their assault at dawn. Additional reinforcements are being discussed along with additional divining. So can we say something along the lines of - strategic importance: if the enemy gets a foothold in our margraviate then it puts New Antioch at risk. - an unordinary assault: it must be a significant assault for us to have received the prophecy in the first place. If the Synod felt it was a standard attack that we could manage normally they likely wouldn't have felt the need to warn us.- prophetic cipher: at the least we want to know if the message is literal or prophetic. Does "land/sea" and "night/dawn" mean what we literally think it does, or is it some cipher that needs an Observer to interpret it in real time during the battle. The original message said that reinforcements and additional divining would be discussed so we are here to follow up on that.
>>6441933Since I like this vote, I'll have this one.
“Because it is the Will of God! I do not intend to merely hold the Margraviate Maria as my father and his father did. God keep their souls safe in his arms. I intend to take territory for God's kingdom, for the Duke of New Antioch, and for all good christians everywhere.” An ember flickered in your stomach, you are a Margrave, and like father the love for your people was strong. “Can you not see that it is no accident on the day of my assignment of the sacred duty that the enemy would make moves to attack by both land and sea, in the same moment God revealed the word to you most holy hearers of his words heard the warning sent by him of the impending attack?”The mysterious receptionist merely listened, you took a step forward. Be it desperation or zeal, you let your words flow. “God has seen fit to endorse my holy goals as the punishment of the wicked and heretic in the same way they seek to snuff it out. If the Syond offers me this boon I swear not only shall I achieve feats worthy of the trust placed in me by man on earth but also by God in heaven. but I shall promise that the Synod may build a temple to inspect my people for any children who show the aptitude for hearing the holy words to be lifted to that sacred task"The Synod’s resource for bodies were often in orphanages, since they did not have the authority nor the power outside of the New Antioch military. Not to mention, there were plenty of orphanages but having more places to recruit would still be a tempting deal for them… You hoped. “That is quite the promise, Margrave.” The robed man said. “And if you fail, what will you do?”“I’ll be dead if I fail my duty.” “And if the Observer is killed?”You took a heavy gulp. You will know your answer on the eve of the siege.”[+2 Days to travel back and +3 days spent total from going and back from New Antioch][8/11] Days till the assaultThree days left.Every soul in the margraviate prepared. The yeomen doubled their patrols. The Red Brigade were preparing their weapons and hounds. The marines and sailor patrolled the water with higher vigilance. The women, children, just about everyone not with a gun assisted in the fortification of homes and gates. You were on the balcony now converted to an overlook post. A large table was set along with a map with wooden pieces representing all units and fortifications. “Will it be by sea or by land?” “Who’s to say it won’t be both?”“Supplies?”“Enough for five months.” “Reinforcements?” The question was aimed at you. “I… I do not know.”Commander Yard rubbed his stubbled chin. “It will be difficult as always, but it’s no matter, my lord. We have stood alone and we will remain standing at the end.” Commander Tross nodded reassuringly, but in his eyes you could tell his wavering certainty. “We will defend the sea and land.”“Or die trying.” Captain Grieves, the commander of the Red Brigade said with a grim determination. “We will bleed them dry before they set foot here.” “Let’s try not to die first of all, captain.”A brittle chuckle passed briefly. You withheld a sigh. “Everything is set, my lord. We’re ready.”>“Then all we do now is to wait, and we will crush them at the walls.” [Jump to the assault]>You might as well do some administrative work… Not to mention Edward notified you of more marriage proposals to read. >>6443334since we have three days can we not do both?we should read marriage proposals and do our best to prepare any final administrative work since we are going to be very busy soon>You might as well do some administrative work… Not to mention Edward notified you of more marriage proposals to read. [+1]that said we should also visit the children since chances are we may be sending some of them to become members of the synod it might also benefit us to see to move them to a more secure location since the force of this heretic assault might be to claim a soon to be saint for a fallen saint since as much as we talked up our anointing by God it is pretty rare for heretics to commit to both attacks by sea AND land if it was just a simple raid >You decided to visit the school house, reassure the children if you could. Marriage proposal>>6443434>>6443466>>6443534Quick question, if you can have waifus, what type would you be interested in? Pic related an example. "I like my waifus ready for action, that's my style sir!"Anyone who got that reference will get a virtual high five.

>>6444113Gonna hit you with an ancient evil, But love me a proper woman who just gonna throw hands and die.
Sorry guys currently busy cause of job, I'll update tomorrow or the day after, sorry.
>>6444113>what type would you be interested insome sort of mechanical bonus for the quest depending on who it is, e.g. faith bonus, or commerce bonus, or military bonus (e.g. some honor guard comes with her and we get some new elite unit, or trading partner, etc). Rather than simply "black, blonde or brunette". Makes sense for a marriage between nobles that it wouldn't be entirely based on looks/personality
>>6444113Pious and smart
>>6444326+1 to this before we agree to anything we should try and learn everything we can about themlike each proposal has one obvious connection and two secret ones that we can learn if we engage in diplomacy a bit more EX: an irish widow has access to Erie rangers but her brother also caught the plague and became a Lazarist Prophet and her father secretly devoted himself to Leviathan before disappearing during a storm so picking her not only increases our benefits but also might draw more eyes to our margravealso IMO we should pick someone who has experience handling wartime matters since we are more administrative its seemswe need someone with battlefield experience so maybe a New Antioch commander offered by the Duke could be an option as well
The men prepared. The heavy thuds of hammers and tools filled the margraviate along with shouts of commands with movements with purpose. The Red Brigade stood ready, as did all armed men of the margraviate and you… You were doing administration. The tea tasted like water and the cake sand. The flavor was there, but not the joy of it. You stayed glued to the chair as you sifted through the proposals, most being from lower-class nobles. While a Margrave was equal to a Marquess, there was little benefit. Not to mention, what young girls would want to live in a margraviate? No one, that’s who. “Huh…”Among the letters, one of them was from Eire, a daughter of a warrior turned noble from Clan Wallace, her name was Matilda, described as a fair maiden of delicate flowers… Somehow you doubted a “fair maiden” existed in a clan of warriors. The second was from a baron’s daughter, with nothing interesting of note as were other proposals you read. “Matilda…” You placed the proposal from Eire on a different stack. Harvests were the second issue on your mind, as were means of generating more wealth to not rely on New Antionch’s monthly funding. While you and Edward know how to bookkeep, it would be nice to have someone dedicated to financial matters too. There were simply too much to do with small personnel, but getting talented people to a margraviate was a difficult feat.
[9/11] Days till the assaultYou woke up to a firm yet loud knock on your door. You rubbed your eyes and shook your head. “God, whoever that is better come in and stop knocking like a mad man!” The door swung open, with Edward breathing heavy. “M—My lord, you must be dressed at once!” He quickly went to your side and gently pulled you to get out of the bed.“What? Why?”“The Synod is here!” The sudden news jolted out of your groginess. “Edward, have them entertained until I get ready.” “Who shall I send?” You wanted to greet soon as possible, but you also needed to maintain dignity and customs. Though you were rushed, Edwards’s handiwork had you ready in thirty minutes. You arrived to your office where only the representative was here.” “Welcome, gentlemen. I thank you for arriving.”Behind the representative was the observer, tall, quiet, yet carrying an eerie presence. “I truly am grateful for this. Truly.”“It is not out of kindness we let our observer be deployed here, Margrave. Do not forget your deal. There will eb a temple for the Synod to recruit children, should they show talent. In addition… We require twenty children for us to take right not.” “That… That wasn’t part of the deal!”The repreesntative remained stalwart, unbothered. “You seem to think you have a ground on this matter. We are loaning a great asset of New Antioch. Surely, lives of some children to be taken to the Synod won’t be a steep cost? They should be honored if they are chosen.” “Then perhaps after the siege!”Yes, maybe then you can find a way to—“It is now, or we walk.”Your hands squeezed into a tight ball of fists. >“A deal has been set. I will not allow alteration to it, sir.”>“I… I will have them brought to you.” >Write-in
>>6444522>write in>they make take the children now if an observer is left permanently"if this is how those who are blessed to hear the words of our Almighty God choose to use their God given anointing then i shall allow it but know that the cost has risen as well. If the Synod has come to claim 20 children at this moment then they know there is a reason they might not be able to claim them in the future. So the Observer shall be the permanent fixture of the Margrave as a guardian to the temple"the synod is trying to get a confirmed return rather than giving us this altering of the deal when we were face to face which means they either wasted time sending an Observer who anything could happen to on the trip out here or back for 20 brats OR more likely the Synod got new information and want a guaranteed return NOW either way they're paying for being shitters
>>6444113A bit late, but I'm going to throw my hat in the ring and say I think what would complement our depressed workhorse of a nobleman would be the most sterotypical noblelady in existence. Someone who is as optimistic as she is arrogant and with skin the bares no sign of ever toiling in her life. The Lady Macbeth to our, well, Macbeth.>>6444592+1, it would show weakness if we just let them walk all over us, but at the same time I don't think this is a deal we can exactly say no to.
>>6444522>“I… I will have them brought to you.”
