You are OTTO GRIGGS, and after installing a random game in your Steam Library, Fantasy Quest 7: Rebirth, you were summoned to another world. Only, instead of a fantastical adventure full of whimsy and joy, you’ve spent the last few days trudging underground through abandoned tunnels and malicious factories. You’re starting to think this was all one big scam.

Or you would if you didn’t suddenly gain the power to toy with REALITY itself. An ability that’s saved both your ass and the asses of the new comrades. Particularly one SAKI NISHIMURA, another Earthling who was summoned alongside you (though without the magic powers). But let’s not forget KNIGHT COMMANDER SEVENTEEN, the over seven-foot android who summoned you and foisted the quest of reconquering FACTORY XI-187 upon you– seeing as it’s been mass-producing demonic soldiers and weapons for quite some time now. Along the way, the three of you encountered one LADY LUVETTEL, who, after a little trolling on your part, joined your party after becoming quite OBSESSED with you. It’s a whole thing…

Anyway! You figured out pretty quickly that your REALITY MAGIC might not have come from your own abilities, or lack thereof, seeing as the VOID ENTITY, who lives inside your chest, has been complaining nonstop about your “theft” every time you go to sleep. But anything of the sort totally wasn’t willful on your part– None of this was! Especially not joining the army of the BLACKIRON PACT. Seventeen kind of forced that one, but if you had your way, you’d still be back home on Earth.

But things never seem to go your way. Like, no way you’d currently be standing in XI-187 if they did. Regardless, while a crusader army rampages about– vanguarded by REN MINATO, the isekai hero who slew the DEMON LORD before your summoning– you’re interrogating a necromancer named BROTHER CALLUM as he whines and whimpers about “Human Rights” or other such nonsense.

…Did you mention you’re trying to recruit him?

The gay-looking twink cowers before you. Though you suppose you shouldn't throw stones inside a glass house. “Y-you want me to what??”

“Join up, gng. Don't you want to, like– idk, save your master or something? Can't do that by sitting here and waiting for the monsters to get you.”

Callum makes a noise halfway between a moan and a snivel and mutters something along the lines of, “But they already have–”

“What was that?” Seventeen growls.

“I- uh, nothing!”

“Good, now then, about our cooperation; normally, the Blackiron Pact has terms and conditions about military cooperation, requiring at least 50 pages in triplicate. But given my rank as Knight Commander, I can temporarily bypass these restrictions and welcome you into my squad until the mission is complete.” Seventeen smiles, “Do not worry, the legalese should only take you a day to decipher, and paperwork half that– excluding the after-action report, of course.”

“That– but I–” Brother Callum stammers as his zombies look more confused than previously. One even pulls off her ear to clean it before putting it back on. “I did not agree to anything yet!” He tries to assert himself before his eyes go wide. You can practically see the lightbulb appear above him, but that might just be the large mouth drooling from the ceiling above him letting loose its uvula. “Your S-seventeen… All the Hells…”

“Correct.” Seventeen affirms.

“K-knight Commander S-seventeen!” Callum points as his undead get increasingly agitated. “You’re Knight Commander Seventeen!”

“We heard you the first time.” Sami groans as Luvettel’s split tongue licks her lips, eyeing the zombies worryingly.

“Y-you were kicked out of the Great Hero’s P-party! You’re that Seventeen.” The Brother backs into his skeletal golem… That gently tries to reassure him by stroking his back. “T-that’s why you’re working with a D-d-demon!”

“Okay, listen–” you try to cut in.

“Y-you’re just trying to trick me! Is that it?! Get me to lower my guard so you can–” You cast [Mend]-[Cloth]-[to]-[Chain] again and make him fall on his ass. The room chitters with a mocking laugh as he flails about helplessly. His zombies try to attack, but Luvettel says some words under her breath, and they all go still.

“Are you done?” Seventeen asks, and Saki restrains herself from kicking the frantic man.

The skeletal hulk seems to weigh its options and settles on kneeling down to gently rock its master and coo (click) its joints to try and calm him down. Smart– you could always just vaporize it if you wanted to. “If we wanted you dead, you'd already be. So calm the fuck down, okay??” You stress so Seventeen doesn't end up saying something Callum would regret.

”MMMMFFPHHHMMMM! MMMMHHH!” Oh right. You [Dispel] the binds and allow him to collect himself. It takes a bit.

“He isn't as eloquent as I, but his statement isn't wrong.” Seventeen says as her massive chassis looms over the man trembling on the ground.

“I- I don't have much of a choice in the matter, do I?”

“Unless you would rather die here after a corrupted warform decides to cross your path, then no. You do not.”

“M-my masters will hear of this, you know that!?” Any attempt at sounding threatening is immediately nullified by the fact that Brother Callum is– well, kind of like (You) but somehow more pathetic.

“They’re advanced undead, aren't they?” Luvettel asks rhetorically, he literally said that a few minutes ago. “Those aren't the type to usually care about novice necromancers under them. I know from experience!” She smiles toothily, though that sentence irks you. She must have been in Callum’s position once.

“T-that’s…” Brother Callum trails off. “Fine, have it your way. Just give me a minute to sort my things.”

You let out a sigh of relief. That went a lot worse than you expected! But at least now you have a new party member and another assortment of undead to keep the bad guys away from you. Hopefully they last longer than Luvettel’s minions (save Bong), who she just threw into the metaphorical meat grinder for fun. Get it? Because they didn't have meat? God, you’re so funny.

BA-DUM

Your eyes go wide as you clutch your chest– a sharp pain radiates from it, like you've just been stabbed in the heart. You look down. No wound. But that doesn't stop the pain from dropping you to your knees. “Otto!” Saki screams as multiple hands try, in vain, to keep you up. Blue encompasses your vision as Luvettel puts herself between you and the ground, saying things you can't hear. You can't hear much of anything except that incessant ringing inside your head.

BA-DUM

A vision of the Demon Lieutenant, the man who almost did you in for good, flashes before your eyes as blood flies from your mouth. You must be coughing–

BA-DUM

“Otto! Otto, stay with me!” A voice shouts.

BA-DUM

“H-his mana, w-what’s happening to it?! He looks like he’s going to explode.”

BA-DUM

“What. Did. You. DO!?”

"M-me?! I-i didn't do anything!"

BA-DUM

The last thing you see is Luvettel’s worried face transform into a feral snarl as she turns to the robed man– looking like… well, a very angry demon. Hehe– *cough* *cough*

BA-DUM

And then your vision goes black as the pain disappears... You must be–

“Dead?” Your back cracks at the speed you turn around, and lo and behold, just who's there. Her.

https://youtu.be/uyevPuVDdhg?si=qcy1GOXJXk6DpYdJ

The void entity in all her transparent glory looks up at you as she… squats on a gaming chair? Where the hell did she get that? Confused, you look around the endless dimension of midnight and see– not a lot, really. With the pain gone, and your newfound disorientation, you almost forget to be mad that she, well… did something to you! That totally wasn't cool. Like what the hell, man?!

“Don't call me that.” The void entity grumbles.

“Yeah, whatever, dude.” You cut her off. “But like what the fuck is your problem? What the fuck was that?!” You wave your arms behind you like a wounded bird, trying to gesture to where you just came from. Which you guess was the conscious world. “What did you even do to me?!”

“Ugh, do you need me to explain everything for you? Obviously, I took a little bit of control and whispered [̶S̶t̶o̶p̶]̶-[̶T̶i̶m̶e̶].”

“You what?” You didn’t notice anything… wait a minute–

“No, you can't cast them. Didn’t you see the strikethrough? I absolutely forbid you from learning them. Nuh-uh!”

“You can do that?!”

“Are you stupid? You’re stupid. Of course I can. It's MY power. Thief. It’s just like how I can limit the keywords you already know if you continue to piss me off.”

Does she mean your runes–

“Keywords! It’s called Keyword Magic, and it’s mine. Runes sound stupid– you sound stupid.” You flip her a double bird only for her to raise two fingers– [̶C̶o̶n̶t̶r̶o̶l̶]̶-̶[̶P̶e̶r̶v̶e̶r̶t̶]̶-̶[̶A̶r̶m̶]̶-̶[̶D̶o̶w̶n̶]– and bring them down, forcing your arms to your side. Your eye twitches. “Not so fun, right?” You can’t see her raising her eyebrow, but you know she does. “It’s pathetic that you’re the one using this now– Only I have the JUSTICE needed to use it properly.”

“Yeah, does that include giving me a heart attack!? What the fuck is wrong with you!?” You’re dealing with a child here, an actual child. This is an absolute worst-case scenario. Why couldn’t you have gotten your powers from something normal? Like a bored God, or a magical coincidence?

“I’m going to ignore that– it shouldn’t even be your power. But I had to do Something to get your attention. It’s been getting harder since you keep trying to ignore me.” She turns away from you. “It’s not exactly like there’s a lot to do up here. Has anyone ever mentioned how empty your mind is?”

Prick.

She turns back. “You know I can hear everything, right?”

“Alright, yeah. Let’s hurry this up." The last place you want to be is here. "You got like a reason for me being here? Right? Don’t know if you heard, but I’m doing some pretty important stuff right now.”

“Trust me, I wouldn’t be speaking to you so directly if I didn’t have to.” She sighs, “But at this rate you’re going to get both of us killed. Something big is coming in, say,” she bounces her head around lackadaisically, “I don’t know~~ As soon as I resume time? That sound right? Yeah, that sounds right.”

“Huh, what? The fuck do you mean–”

She holds up an outlined hand. “Yeah, I’m the one speaking, buddy. I’m just here to help you See nothing more, nothing less.”

You want to turn on your heels and stomp away, but just like Callum, you know you’re helpless in this position. “Fine, get it over with.”

The entity smiles; it is not a pleasant one. “Good, then I shall.” And she disappears from her chair. You turn around frantically, as you hear giggling from all around you– then two hands push you into the chair, and claws dig into your face. Scariest of all are the two witch-nailed thumbs that position themselves right in front of your eyeballs.

You’re helpless to push them away– “aaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA” You scream before the pain is gone and you’re lying on the floor. The woman, sitting on her chair, looms above you, smug as a cat.

“See? That should help you. Smile.” She says.

You blink a few times as the blurriness goes away. Nothing really changes, but you can see quite clearly that the void entity is Healthy and Full of Energy– What?

>Otto’s Sight Has Been Upgraded

[Spoiler]Otto can now better analyze the people around him. Not to the level of the VE sensing emotions, but he can now instantly know someone's physical condition. Bolded text in brackets is their [Status], which is split between Health and Energy. Health has four stages: Healthy, Damaged, Critical, and Dead. Characters wearing armor get the extra stage of [Armored] above [Healthy]. Energy is numeric and drops when someone exerts themselves. Ex. Casting magic/Fighting hard. At 0 energy, a character becomes exhausted and passes out for a short period of time (usually until the end of combat). Otto, however, constantly regenerates energy by drawing from the world around him and cannot pass out.[/spoiler]

“Feel better?” The void entity asks. “That’s all I wanted to do, really. Remember, if you die, I die. So Don't C:” You stare until she makes a ‘shoo’ing motion with her hands. “You can leave now, tata! Bye-bye!”

You don’t even bother to flip her off– you might not get another chance for a while to talk to this cretin, so before you can even think, you shout the first thing that comes to your mind, “Wait–

“You know gaming chairs are a total scam, right?!” You shout, desperate to learn even the most basic information about the entity– Oh, oh no. You got those thoughts confused.

“...What?” The void entity asks, confused.

Oh, well. In for a penny, in for a pound. “They’re literally just race car seats, y’know? Like they’re not designed to be comfortable– sure, they look kinda cool, but they’re not designed for comfort or for sitting in for a long period of time. Hell! A ton of them don’t even have padding, or they’re just leather with no mesh, so they’re not breathable at all. Like, I guess if you want to speedrun swamp-ass, then go for it, but if you’re actually going to sit down for a long time, then they’re just not the play. And they’re going for like hundreds of bucks, too! It’s a complete and total scam. There’s no reason to buy these things!”

“What the fuck are you talking about?”

“Like, if you really want a good chair, just go to a box store. Hell, even fucking Walmart will do, and just pick up an office chair. Those ones are actually designed to be sat on for multiple hours. It’ll only cost like 40 bucks, too, and it’ll be wayyyy better quality than a fucking gaming chair that can cost you half a month's rent! Just make sure they're breathable, though that’s the biggest thing to look out for–”

“Otto!” The entity all but screams, “What are you–? I didn’t buy this!”

‘That’s even worse! Like, if you have the option to make any chair in the world, why would you make this type?! You didn’t think to make, like, a couch? Or a cushioned chair? A throne even?? Hell, even a lawn chair would be more comfortable–”

“I-i just remembered that I used to own one okay?! Jesus, what the fuck is your problem?” She stressed, more caught off guard than you’ve ever seen her before. “I just– I thought it would be nice, okay? Happy? Don’t get on my fucking case, okay? You sound like my fucking dad! Fuck OFF!”

“You remember your dad?” That, um, might be good information to know.

Her eyes widen, and then vanish completely. “No, I didn’t say that. Why are you still here? I told you to go! If you don’t leave now, I’m going to make it so you can’t use any keyword with the letter ‘E ’ so get out of here!”

“Wait, please!” You shout, again. “That’s huge, right? You’re remembering stuff? Right? Can you tell me something, like your name at least?”

“Why the hell would you think I’d tell you, even if that was true?”

“Oh, come on. Don’t try to tell me you don’t get mad every time I refer to you as an ‘entity’ in my head.” The void entity hesitates for a long time. Long enough that you think you have to force things. Void Entity. Void Entity. Void Entity. Void Entity. Void Entity. Void Entity. Void Entity. Void Entity–

“Alright, I get it! Samantha, it’s Samantha. And don’t fucking call me Sam! Now get out! Now!”

And like that, your eyes open and your face to tail with Luvettel lunging at a terrified cultist. Without a second to lose, you yank the demon back by her wings and fall to the ground in a mess of limbs– the impact knocking the last of the blood from your mouth. Thankfully, the pain in your chest is now gone, but you can still feel the gaze of the void– of Samantha.

“Eek–” Luvettel exclaims as Callum hides behind his golem. “S-so forward…” She blushes as you try your best to peel her off.

“Otto!” Saki exclaims as she helps you up, “What the hell happened? Are you OK?”

You open your mouth to reply, but stop as a tightness in your chest causes your senses to dull– except for your hearing that is. Ratatatatatatatatata– You hear it from somewhere far away, like the sound of an engine. But that shouldn’t be surprising. You’re in a factory after all, so why is the v– is Samantha drawing your attention to it?

Ratatatatatatatatata– it continues as voices call out your name. It’s getting closer(?) At least it sounds louder. Ratatatatatatatatata– And then you hear a distant popping noise, and the wall explodes–

*~BOOM~*

You and Luvettel are thrown against the far wall as half of the office ceases to exist in a fiery blaze. Smoke obscures the perpetrator, but there isn’t enough to obscure your view of your comrades. They’re fine, thankful. Your new sight shows no differences, other than maybe being a bit disoriented.

And then you hear a few more pops and see giant missiles emerging from the smoke.

OH FUCK!

Your eyes widen as a high-pitched whine escapes your lips. Luckily, no one can hear it over the sounds of the FUCKING MISSILES HEADING STRAIGHT FOR YOU!!! Faster than you’ve ever moved your arms before– they fly in front of you as you focus everything you can to [Move]-[Wind] and push them as far from you as possible! Realistically, just the force of the wind shouldn’t be able to push a rocket-propelled projectile far… but you didn’t agree to try out a fantasy game for realism. Only suckers and turbo autists do that! And you’re high-functioning, thank you very much!

With a swipe of your arms to the side, the missiles fly to the corner of the room, away from you and most of your companions. Sure, the deafening *BOOM* blasts your ears more than a metal concert, but at least you’re still standing… And everything else is too– well, not exactly standing, but they're not hurt. Probably going to take them a little bit of time to reorient themselves, so that leaves just you– then a flying arm, severed at the elbow, knocks the wind out of you. Okay, maybe Callum lost a few zombies, but that’s not important right now!

Ratatatatatatatatata–

Because something is clearing up the smoke, that noise- it has to be a propeller, no? Such a rhythmic thumping of the air can’t be anything else… And you’re soon proven correct as the smoke clears on the side of the factory and a brisk chill hits your face. The missiles must have blown a hole all the way outside… Outside? How long has it been? How high up in the mountains even are you?

“D-DRAGON!!!” Callum's voice shouts from behind you as the man tries to scramble away from the blasted opening. Your head whips back, and you see it too. Though to your modern eyes, that’s no dragon. That’s a fucking Attack Helicopter! You’re going to FUCKING KILL whoever sold this game as a Fantasy Quest (7)

But not before this gunship is dealt with, as its[Gatling Gun]s begin to charge and more [Explosive] missiles are detached from it– you realize you’re the only one still standing to deal with this… Maybe you’re the only one who can, even if the other weren’t still picking themselves off the ground… Everything is up to you now.

As soon as the missiles detect themselves from the helicopter– *KABOOOOOMM*– they explode, and you're more than ready to brace for the ensuing shockwave. Through the smoke, you hear the ‘copter make a noise somewhere between a whine and a siren through the chopping of the propellers, and no second explosion lets you know it's still flying. And so too does the thousand bullets of hot lead that burst into the office. Immediately, you erect a [Barrier] to guard yourself (and Luvettel, who seems to be putting more effort into reaching for your hand than actually picking herself up), as Seventeen guards Saki with her large frame. Callum is smothered under a pile of rotting bodies who throw themselves at him as meat shields.

>Seventeen's and Callum's health decreases by 1
>Callum lost 3 zombies

By the time you’ve helped Luvettel up and hold her small hand in yours, the smoke parts just enough to reveal the grisly sight of the wounded gunship and the inner workings of the wall (bleh). The explosion has torn the shark-face decal on the sides of the vessel apart, revealing a disproportionately large mouth filled with wicked teeth. Great gobs of blood fall down the mountain almost as if a horrid mimicry of the snow that falls beside it. The teeth chitter a horrid laugh as the Gatling guns, knocked off-kilter, rev up another volley. But this time you’re prepared.

“Everyone, firing positions!” You shout as you block the next barrage with a [Barrier] covering the crater of a wall. The ensuing barrage threatens to break your spell, but you [Expel] enough [Mana] to keep it steady. Though when the gunfire stops and you drop the spell, you’re forced to catch your breath as Saki, Seventeen, and Luvettel return fire.

The beast behind the armor reels in pain as its exposed flesh is filled with as many holes as it wanted to leave in you. Using its full mobility, the helicopter tilts back and puts distance between the office and itself, getting harder to hit with each yard between you and it. And without the helicopter obstructing your view, you get a look outside the factory– or as far of a look as the snowstorm will let you– flashes of fire and distance thunder from the colored encampment below reveals that the main crusader army must be under assault by the warforms, and while the encampment is a distant spec on your vision up here the gunship could reach it in an instant… the Gatling gun charges again and your mind is more resolute than every. You need to kill this thing here and now, before it can reach the crusaders.

>Use the organic insulation between the walls to cast [Control]-[Flesh]-[Vine], and hold this thing where everyone can shoot it!

>Cast [Explosive]-[Bone] on Bong and have Luvettel fly him into the helicopter's torn-open mouth.

The instant the gunship looks to be leaving OA (Otto’s Airspace), you throw your arms out in front of you, and a dozen tentacles fly from the wall along with them. To others, it probably looks like you’re controlling the flesh vines by moving your arms, hands, and fingers, and well, you are. Specifically, you’re casting [Control]-[Flesh]-[Vine], but they can't see that. They can only see your movements and the vines following them– it’s so hard to put into words how you’re doing it. But you can try. It feels like you just grew a bunch of new limbs and can control them as freely as any other parts of your body (namely your hands) only move as a reaction to moving the vines. Only the flesh vines aren't actually a part of your body, and you feel no pain when the helicopter tilts its propeller and chop, chop, chops a few of them. But that tilt is all you need to grab the creature(?) by its hull and landing gear and pull it back towards the bullet-torn office.

“Keep firing! Aim for the squishy bits while I hold it down!” You shout as you use two vines to battle the gunship for its guns- they're hard to completely pull off, but at least you can angle the [Gatling gun]s away from the living.

>Brother Callum lost 2 zombies

“Yeah, thanks. I was thinking of shootin' the metal instead.” Saki rolls her eyes, slightly messing with the accuracy of her fire.

“What squishy bit?” Luvettel asks as she hip-fires the entire broadside of the chopper– somehow missing its guns entirely. Well, at least she discredits Saki’s snark.

“Fuckin’” Saki mutters as she grabs Luvie’s gun as soon as it starts *click*ing, “Just throw grenades in its mouth!”

“Okay! :D” Luvie follows through on the order immediately. Though she blinks when the copter-monster eats it through the tear in its cheek and nothing happens. “Nothing happened.” She says, pouting.

“You have to pull out the pin first,” Seventeen helps.

“Okay :>” She does, then holds it up for Seventeen to check. “Like this?” Seventeen, who's busy trying to knock off the gatling guns with her hand cannon, doesn't immediately notice Luvettel holding a primed grenade right next to her. Probably because the demon's too short.

With each passing second, you sweat more and more, but keeping the helicopter in place and your friends unswiss-cheeseified by the guns is taking all of your concentration. Luckily, Saki is here to play the role of the party's straight man. “JUST THROW THE DAMN THING!!!” She shrieks, calmly.
>>
>>6462621
“U-waa? Why are you being so loud? ;-;” Luvettel pouts and lobs the grenade– and, due to it being cooked rather thoroughly, blows up immediately upon making contact with the helicopter's rancid tongue! You all breathe a sigh of relief– partly because the helicopter explodes into a million pieces, but mostly because you all didn't just get teamkilled. Luvettel hugs you tightly, as her 'victory prize,' but you barely even register it. A near-death-experience frantic laugh bubbles out of your mouth. You have no idea how you keep doing it. A few feet away, Saki frets over Seventeen, who's leaking enough oil and steam to leave a puddle and to melt the snow around her, respectively. And while you can't see far because of the snowstorm, the view of the mountains through the hole in the wall is beautiful...

You hope this isn't the last time you'll get to see such a sight.

“D-dragon-! W-we have to move NOW!” the necromancer screams as he finally pushes the last of the zombie corpses off of him. Only to stare dumbfounded at the four of you staring back– You hope you look cool with the scenic background behind you. “W-what?” Callum mutters as he stares at you all, wide-eye. “Where did it..? H-how did you-?”

“Elite gamer skillz, newb.” You say just to totally, irreparably ruin the moment. You can hear both Seventeen and Saki groan, but at least Luvie nods along like you just said something cool. That's why she's the best.

“Y-you–” Callum starts to continue, but the Bit is done, so Seventeen cuts him off.

“We have to move, quickly.” She says, to no disagreement. “The Widow is most certainly hunting for us now. We must have become too much of an annoyance while she focuses on Minato. Lucky for us then, a new path presents itself.” She gestures to the new hole in the wall.

“You want to go outside?” Saki asks.

“We can.” Seventeen affirms, “The factory may or may not have more dragons to deploy, but the snowstorm can help our approach. After firsthand experience, I'm certain now the corrupted warforms do not have the capabilities included during my forging, including multiple forms of sight. They likely just use their eyes.” She doesn't?

“Will it be faster?” You ask, already knowing this decision will somehow be yours.

“Probably.” Seventeen answers.

“That's it?” Saki questions.

“I have insufficient data to perform a full analysis on each route.”

“Yeah, that's what I mean! Stuff that's more roboty–”

“That’s racist.”

Saki reels back. “That’s-! C'mon! It’s true!” She cries.

You put a hand on the flailing girl's shoulder; you comprehend this situation completely. You've been in it before. “She’s fucking with you,” you help, deathly serious. You’re roughly shoved off– Luvettel then takes the offending arm that wasn't focused on her and clutches it in a death grip. Good thing you're wearing armor; those claws look like they could hurt.

“Oh, buzz off! I know that-! I was just… um–”
>>
>>6462622
“Apologies, I am getting slightly ‘lightheaded,’ as organic species are prone to saying.” Seventeen says, and you reason it’s probably because of the nonstop beatings Seventeen has gotten trying to protect both you and Saki. You're kindreds in 'getting your arms ripped off,' for God's sake! You get it... F-fuck, just thinking about that battle makes your skin crawl. You were so scared. Fucking Demon Lieutenant. Blue-skinned prick– wait.

“Otto, where should we go?! I smell a lot of undeath around! I want to go find it!” Luvettel chirps as she clings to you, eyes looking up. You're really starting to notice how disheveled she looks. How disheveled you all look... Man, that first shower when you get back is gonna hit.

When you lock back in, you see Seventeen and Saki looking at you expectantly. They're getting reliant without paying you. “Wait!” Callum calls out, “W-we’re leaving? Just like that? Not even taking time to prepare?”

“By taking time to prepare, we increase the likelihood of mission failure by 69%.”

“Yeah, we can ‘take time’ when we’re dead."

The necromancer turns towards you in misery, paying no mind to Luvettel licking the blood off your armor… “Are you all insane?”

“You’re literally a necromancer, bud. The fuck you complaining about?” You deadpan, using the full force of 21st-century morality behind you.

“Uuugh,” He moans as Bong shuffles behind you and whistles.

>Ask Luvettel about the undeath she smells. Callum's not that smelly, is he?

“Alright, let's take a trip outside. I could use the fresh air. Besides, it wouldn't be the first time we galavanted through the mountains while being shot at.” You say, to the agreement of most everyone.

“Uhm,” Callum shakily raises his hand. “It would be my first.”

“Really?” Saki asks, “Not on the way here? Not once?”

“I was chased around a lot before I met you, too!” Luvettel helpfully adds.

“We mostly fought in the steppe out east. A-and for whatever reason the caretaker didn't go on the offensive on our way here. A-and um, this was, erm– our last stop on our way out of demonic territory. We're going home after this, so please, let us be careful.” He stresses the last part, even though his tone implies he's worried you'll cut him down at any moment. Maybe you laid it on a little too thick– look, it's been a long quest, alright?

“Then there’s a first time for everything. Does anyone need help climbing up?” Seventeen says.

“Nah, I got it.” You reply as the runes for [Construct]-[Metal]-[Staircase] fly through your fingers and a path upward appears before you.

Callum makes a noise like he's about to comment, but it quickly dies. Instead, he just sighs and climbs into the ribcage of his skeletal golem. Your thoughts are soon flooded with questions about whether that counts as being called a mecha or not. By the time you snap out of it, you're already marching through the snow on top of the facility. And if your guess is correct, the caretaker's lair is pretty close by. But, like, it looks like a giant boss arena peeking out of the mountain.

With his new bone-mech, Callum can actually take point with Seventeen. Saki stays close behind, paranoically looking everywhere through the scope on her rifle. Naturally, having to account for Luvettel's short legs, you fall behind a bit. You're not too worried, not like you were just a few days ago about everything, because you've already put a [Barrier] around both of you. So, hand in hand, you press onward!

It, um... feels kinda weird. She's looking at you so intensely, and her dopey smile only helps show her sharp teeth. She's not saying anything either– just kind of staring. It's making you kind of nervous, but maybe that's a good thing. There's no one shooting at you, yet, and you haven't really had a chance to 'get away' from it all for a bit. Luvettel seems like a nice enough girl, Hell– you made out with her! Maybe it's a good idea to get to know her better before one of you gets ground into mince meat.

You'll start with a softball to get the conversation flowing. "Can you still 'smell undeath' around here? And that's kind of like a necromancy spell thing, right?"

"No, silly! I use my nose, duh! ^_^ And the smell has mostly gone away :/ But maybe it's just the wind? Hey, can we kill Callum?”
>>

“Yeah, definet– wait, what? Why?!” you ask with a strangled gasp. You immediately check, and thank god, he's too far out to hear you.

“Because his soul makes for good material to work with.” She states matter-of-factly.

God, you’re going to regret asking this. “And that means what exactly? Please remember, darling, I'm still new to this whole magic thing.”

“Mmhm, we'll fix that eventually! But it's pretty obvious he's being raised so that he can met-meta-metamor. uh..." "metamorphize." "Metamorphine into a powerful undead. Most of the scars on his body aren't from combat; they’re textbook rituals to torture a soul! I had a lot put on me once before I metamorphized into the master race. But I can't remember that anymore.” She says, delusionally chipper. She's not like, just going to snap, right? Please don't.

“That's horrid,” you say, "and a lot to unpack." You don't think this is the time to even try. "So you're saying he's being used as a vessel to create a whole other being? And he's gotta die to do it?"

She nods. “And I can definitely complete it. So can we kill him?”

It's probably not a good idea to shut Luvettel down directly. "But why? He can be of use alive, right? Like, look at him, he's even bravely going out in front."

"He's useless alive. He sucks and will be of better use to us dead." That's... mean.

"Even without equipment?" You hazard out.

But, again, she nods. "I mostly use magic instinctively. Mistr– Sitri called it amateurish, which definitely means it's good! I've raised a lot of dead all by myself! Sitri even had me manage the corpse-spikes!"

"The corpse-spikes?"

"They're really cool! You impale someone on this large pike that goes into the sky; you can even fit multiple! A-and then the spike has an enchantment to not let the soul leave the body of those touching it. So when you walk past, you can both see the bodies decaying but physically feel the mana of rotting souls nearby! T-the Demon Lord said it was a great art piece!"

"I-i'm sure it was!" You stutter, but she nods happily.

"Normally, undead having souls gets in the way. Poor necromancers have even gotten killed by their slaves, hehehe. Cutting holes so the soul can leave is more beneficial when making servants– making skeletons even more so. But you can do some fun stuff with the soul too! It's needed to create a bunch of undead, like wights, dreadknights, and liches!"

“Okay, I get that, but why does this mean we should murder Callum?”

“Because he's useless to us right now! And with a few spells I can fix that! And then we can have a powerful undead under our control! Maybe we can even take over his masters.”

“We don't even know if they’re still alive, though.” Even if she was probably sniffing them out earlier.

“They aren't.”

“Can you smell that– oh wait.” Luvettel’s teasing smile makes you flush in embarrassment– it's not often she gets a one up on you. “Okay, seriously though–”

“I'z surrendah! I’z Surrendah– aaaaAAAAA–” *SPLAT* Your boot crushes the skull of the troll for what must be the fifteenth time. All to the cheer of the combined forces of the Holy Dominion and Empire. A rare sight if it were not for the Demonic Incursion and the ensuing Treaty of Universal Survival that keeps the mortals from doing the hard part for the Demon Lord and destroying each other. It does this by ceasing all warfare between mortal kingdoms and nations, among other boring treaty stuff.

It takes only a moment for the troll's face to regenerate and for you to repeat the process of crushing its wicked skull. When the thing's blubbery head is reduced to a fine paste, and all you can see of it is its blacksteel armor, you can pretend you’re destroying Seventeen’s skull over and over again… ‘Is this too much?’ you think, but by the time you can actually ponder the thought, the troll has regenerated again and– *SPLAT*

“Lord Minato, I understand your anger, but do you not find this display a tad excessive?” Chrysame, your priest, objects to a chorus of boos from the surrounding soldiers. You should beat them up for doing that, but you can feel Elspeth's glare as if to say, 'don't make a diplomatic incident, you knumbskull.'

However, before you can give her an answer, the current leader of the Imperial Troops in the facility steps out of the crowd and bows. An elven magistrate by the name Tes’tral, whose otherwise beautiful face is marred with scars. Maybe it's because he's not wearing armor like an idiot– substituting it for purple silk robes. “Sister Priestess of whatever God it is you worship. I seek only to remind you that this here specimen is nothing more than a simple orcoid, barely more conscious than a beast. And one that was directly responsible for the death of my predecessor, Magistrate Tar’vil. I believe the Great Hero has every right to enact vengeance on this wicked foe!” He says, a smile on his angular face.

Chrysame looks troubled but doesn’t comment further. Elspeth’s “political training,” which she drilled into all of you out in the wilderness, has done wonders while you’ve been attached to the crusader army.

“Yeah! Kill him again!” Vesper shouts, rallying both Dominion and Imperial soldiers alike and bringing the mood back up– see? The training has been very effective. So as the troll's head reforms once more, you–

“Agzaad.” A voice mutters in Dwarven behind you, and the troll’s body erupts in flame. A brief scream of utter torment follows, but soon the beast stills for the final time. But you pay it no mind; you’ve more pressing matters. The centurion’s somehow still clinging to life– you should have taken more care to make sure he was down for the count. But who can blame you for thinking cutting his arms off was enough? As you kneel down to where he lies, you notice a glimmer of light as a rune disappears from his helmet. It’s no matter; you do away with it, and the dwarf's ugly face is before you– you wince as he spits a gob of blood right into your eye. You wipe it off and stare with a frown.

He opens his mouth to speak, but your hand on his throat, tightening quickly, puts an end to that. Yeah, sure, Elspeth would usually say some 'Chrysame heal him!' speech like: ‘ooooh~, he has oh soooo~ valuable information blah blah blah~ ooooh~ we need to hear him out ooooo~,’ but she’s just as silent as the anticipating crowd around you. Soldiers from all over the continent await more bloodsport. And, c’mon. Why should you have to handle this disrespect? You literally saved the world. Why shouldn’t you be able to cut loose a little?

Whatever the dwarf was going to say is rendered irrelevant as you squeeze your hand into a fist, popping his stout head off his neck and into the air. But that’s not all; you still have to put on a show for the spectators. So as the head falls to the ground, you grab it by the beard– spin it around a few times like a ball on a chain- and throw it right into an awaiting maw in the rafters. There’s thunderous applause and rambunctious cheer at the display, even if you can see most of your girls roll their eyes or palm their faces at the display. What’s that matter, though? They’ll still let you into their beds tonight.

“Good show, jolly good show, Great Hero!” Tes’tral commends, before using the hype you generated to start a cheer of his own. “Death to the Blackiron Pact!” He calls, the words echoed by both soldiers of the Empire and Dominion.

“Death to the Blackiron Pact!”

“DEATH TO THE BLACKIRON PACT!”

”DEATH TO THE BLACKIRON PACT!”

The soldiers scream and shout, and you find the smile on your face hard to wipe away. Years ago, when you were naive and first met Seventeen, you were awed by the Pact's ideals, before learning their inherent hypocrisy. This world cannot be judged by the morals of your previous one; this is one where a being's nature can far outweigh any semblance of nurture. Just look at the Demons, or Hells, even the dwarves! They’re no bastion of peace and tranquility between races; they’re more racist than even the elves! They just got so many bullshit laws and restrictions to prevent themselves from acting on their malice– And Seventeen was more than willing to bend or break those rules when it suited her, and list them as justification for her atrocities. Pfft, ‘we have to hear the Demon General out! This isn’t the right way~!’ Pure garbage.

“How’s everything looking outside?” You ask Elspeth, getting your party’s minds back on track, except for Vesper, of course. She’s leading the cheer.

The princess puts a hand to her ear and quickly gets back to you. “The Pact’s warforms put up good resistance, but no one can handle the combined might of the two most powerful nations on the continent. The leaders of the Empire thank you for your assistance, and the one from the Dominion wishes to invite you to dinner once you’ve conquered the factory.”

“Mark it for later. I got some other plans for tonight.” You wink before brandishing your sword. “But we got a caretaker to take care of first!” Your companions giggle at your totally witty and cool play on words. You’re so awesome. “Let’s beat these losers to the Heart!” You say before selecting everyone in your party and–

“H-huh?! Wait-!” Chysame cries, but it’s too late; you’ve all already [Blink]ed out of the room. Any complaints fall on your deaf ears, because you’re Ren Motherfucking Minato. The Great Hero and savior of the world– and you can do whatever you fucking want.

“For the last time: No. We’re not going to just kill him; we can’t.”

“Buuut why nooooot~!” Luvettel whines for the fifth time.

“We can’t just do whatever we want, Luvie. That’s not how the world works.”

“But whyyyyy! You haven’t told me why!” She pouts. “I want to kill him, and we have the power too, so why shouldn’t we?! It’ll even help us in combat!”

This is getting kinda harder than you expected. Shouldn’t it be obvious that you can’t just do whatever you want? There are like morals and shit you gotta follow; everyone does. But how exactly are you supposed to explain that to a literal demon? One who was tortured so badly that her very soul got tainted by it? Can you, a guy who's only ever won online arguments by being a total goalpost-moving, strawmanning, dickweed, even convince her of the sanctity of life? Or maybe of something else? Should you even try? You might get better results by just distracting her until a warform comes knocking and you’re back to fighting.

>Try and convince Luvettel it’s immoral to kill people, even with a “valid” reason.

>Try to convince Luvettel of the sanctity of life.

>Try to distract Luvettel using classic Gen Z nonsense.

>Just say your words are final and instead look out for approaching warforms.

“Luvettel, what would happen if you died?” You ask as you two continue trudging through the snow.

“H-huh?”

“Like DIED died? So dead there was no hope of coming back?”

“Otto…” She breathes out hoarsely, flushing purple.

“I mean, you clearly couldn’t be as adorable as you are now, right?” You say while ruffling her hair. “There’s no way you could be as helpful, as cute, as magical–”

“Otto, you wish to KILL me??” Her breathing has turned labored; her smile deepens– wait, her smile? “B-but we’ve only just met each other~” She blushes. “S-so forward… A-and I don’t even have the right materials for the ritual– but! I-i can get them as soon as we’re out of here. I promise! Then we can both get more power!” She pushes further and further into you, which isn't what you expected or really wanted. Fuckfuckfuck–

“What if I died.” You say icily, “What would you do if I died?” She looks up at you, her ditzy malaise broken. “Could you truly, honestly enjoy me if I was dead? Would I be able to call you cute, adorable, amazing, spectacular, and so much more if I was a walking corpse? Hmmm?”

“W-well, no! B-but I-I’d never raise you as something– something so p-puny! I’d bring you back as a wight– or maybe a vampire! M-maybe even a lich! W-we’d still be able to stay together. Forever.”

“That’s…” You’re pretty sure Luvettel has a very different interpretation of life and death than you do, but still. You’re right, you have to be. “But what if you couldn’t? What if I vaporized right here and now? That’d suck, right?”

“That…” She slowly nods. “Yeah, it would.”

“Well, there’s a lot of people who would feel the same way you’re feeling right now if Callum were to die. And besides, he has plenty of uses alive. Once word gets around that we helped him, we can reap way better rewards than if we just killed and raised him.” You tap your temple for emphasis. “That’s why we shouldn’t just kill everyone we meet– it’s not weakness, or anything; it’s SMART!”

“So what?” Luvettel says, almost snippy. Did she not like your tone?

“Well, when people are known for helping others, that helps them make friends in higher places–” You begin, but Luvettel shakes her head.

“Other people don’t matter, Otto. Thinking about others only makes you weak. Everyone obeys when you’re strong enough, so their words don’t matter. Nuh-uh! The only thing that matters is what I feel–” Her eyes open wide as she realizes she forgot something. “A-and what you feel about me, of course! That’s all that matters in this world.” She states narcissistically, sure of herself.

And just when you’re about to hit her with the hydrogen bomb that is ‘but I’d think less of you if you killed him.’ You’re cut off by a FUCKSHIT from Saki far up front. The two of you race over, hand in hand, only to see the party surrounded by four warforms–surprisingly normal–looking ones as far as cyberzombies go. The only worrying thing is how put together they are. They move athletically, and their skinless body parts seem hard and muscular. And by the discordant sound they make to each other, which to you sounds too accented to fully make out, they’re capable of speech. Even Seventeen looks cautious, though that's probably just because her frame is so damaged. Fuck, you can debate the ethics of murder later, you got to move! You've never been one to overcomplicate things… well, that's not exactly true– but you wish it was! So instead of using some complex series of runes, you’re going to just use a simple one! And one you’re already pretty proficient at. Maybe it's because you were a tank main in Overwatch– or maybe it's just that shields have so many uses and you've used them a ton– but you’re pretty sure you can now swing that [Barrier] rune around like it's nothing. And when you add a [Move] to it? Like [Move]-[Barrier]? Well, hehe, Let's just say things might start getting wild– and for the demonic-looking warforms, that's exactly what happens.

One moment they’re snarling, blood and ichor spewing from their mouths as they salivate over the thought of tearing Saki, Seventeen, and Callum, to shreds. The next, their entire bodies are hit by an invisible wall, trying to knock them off the factory and to a brutal death on the jagged rocks below. Maybe their bodies would become waypoints for future prospective hikers like the guys who failed to climb Everest– but that might take some time, seeing as these guys are pretty, annoyingly, agile. While their sharp claws and brute strength aren't enough to break you [Barriers], they are enough to make you have to put your entire focus on them. Unluckily, they also prevent the party from getting a clear shot at the warforms– Fuck, you want to scream at them to stop firing (they're hurting the fucking barrier protecting them!), but you can't let your mind slip focus for even a second! And they're too far, and the wind is too loud. FUCK! Dammitdammit, you almost got them– they're almost to the ledge!

SCREEEEEAAAAAACH– Oh, fuck!

A combined burst of static from the warforms, complete with a rumbling under your feet as the panels of the floor/ceiling move in clear hostility. They tilt and rotate at alien angles, trying to knock you into gaping maws between the metal panels. Each filled with thousands of serrated teeth. Your savior comes in the form of a tiny blue demon, who grabs you by the armor and flies a few feet into the air using all the strength she can muster. It's actually a surprising amount.

“I-I got you, m-my love!” She shouts despite clear struggle. At least you can take solace in the fact she wants you alive, at least.

“T-thanks!” You thank as the mouths below gnash and gnaw at your feet.

But such a lapse in concentration comes with consequences– With your moving barrier down there's now both good and bad news. You’re the kinda guy who likes to hear the bad first, to lower expectations, so you'll describe that here: The warforms, undamaged, are quickly able to regain their balance and press their attack again– the good news is that without your barrier, the gunfire of Saki and Seventeen, who, judging by the dark blue energy transferring from Callum to them, are getting some supernatural assistance, can now reach the demonic warforms. And while most of it only does superficial damage, a few well-placed shots by Seventeen and her hard-hitting hand cannon knock one of the warforms into a free fall off the factory and off the mountain. It's a long drop, so you’re probably never seeing that guy ever again. Though did you mention that there's worse news? Ah, right, it's here:

The three remaining warforms race directly towards you– their entire attention on dealing with their greatest threat– All while Luvettel tries desperately to keep you from falling into awaiting jaws and other toothy orifices that beckon hungrily. And each desperate [Barrier] you send out to stop them is leaped over like a hurdle at a track meet– Fuck, they’re right in front of you-! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA–

>Spam [Barriers] like a madman possessed.

>Make a [Staircase] underneath so you can escape, like you’re playing Minecraft Hunger Games

>[Dissolve]-[Metal]-[Corpse]-whatever fucking else you can think of! Just kill them!

As razor-filled jaws close in fast, your measly life flashes before your eyes– there are such pleasant memories, such as being a menace to your older siblings, to your friends, everyone who pissed you off online, and, of course, most pleasant of all is when you smoked some dank Dope. There's that time you did it on the pier, the abandoned hospital, the balcony, when your parents weren't home, when your parents were home, in the school bathroom, right before that final exam, right after that final exam, during your shift at the comic store, at the graveyard, in the Commons– Jesus, you've smoked a shit ton, haven't you? You, uh… haven't been wasting your life, right? Nah, no way. Why shouldn't you focus on stuff that's fun? It's not like there was anything important in your life– You widen as you realize, wait, yeah, there is. There is, and it's Right. FuckingInFrontOfYou– aaaaaAaAAAAaaaAaaaAAAAAAA–

You raise your hands in front of yourself in panic and shout the first keywords that come to mind– and due to your sudden trip down memory
lane, they would be: [Expel]-[Pure]-[Marijuana], making you release a cloud of [Smoke] in front of you. Kind of like a squid in fear– before your more rational mind tells you to put a [Barrier] around yourself and Luvettel as well. It’s only a few seconds of coughing later to realize that you totally just HOTBOXED YOURSELF!

Ever since you came of (legal) age, and totally definitely not before, you've seldom had a day sober. Every twelve hours you'd at least take a hit of your pen– but now? After a week-long T-Break where the only thing you smoked was Strangeleaf, which is like totally #SomeOtherShit, and you mean that in a good way. A really good way.

Surrounded by smoke, you feel your entire body relax; aches and pains go away as you breathe in as much of the pot cloud as you can. And when you open a small hole in the [Barrier] to blow the cloud out with [Wind], you see that–Pfft– it looks like those warforms are a buncha suckers! They've clearly never been high before. Haha, chemical warfare, BABY! One stumbles as it tries to lunge at you– hitting the [Barrier], they fall straight into an awaiting maw below. The noise it makes is horrible, and the sight is disgusting and going to cause a bad trip. Moving on! Another hazards to a stop right before the sea of combing ceilings and spends a great deal of time simply observing its hand, its peers, and finally you.

“What have I become?” It questions in a moment of clarity as its three eyes stare at its reflection on its metal shell. The voice, gravely and hard to make out, said in the tone of a man who just realizes he wasted the prime of his life playing WoW Classic. He promptly jumps off the roof, and you can't say you blame him. Or, at least that's what you think happened. Every time you move your head, there's a bit of input lag now, and you're getting kinda sweaty. But it's probably nothing.

The last warform, though, still looks like it's going to eat your face. His tolerance must be higher than the rest. Good thing you got this [Barrier keeping you from him and the toothy maws. Jeez, those things look foul. Good thing you're falling right towards them– Ow! Your inebriated state must have made you lose concentration. At least your bony ass hits metal– but that really hurts! Your weight slams the floor panel back into place, tearing flesh and pulling teeth as it does so. You have to hold on tight as the mouths gnash and roil, but surprisingly many of them simply settle back into place. They must be too toked to care about making you their dinner.

Buuuuuut You should probably move before they start getting the munchies. You turn around to see if Luvettel's okay, and she is… for the most part. She's standing opposite the warform but looks at you in much the same way. Hungrily. Cracks of red in her black sclera, matching the blood on her jagged teeth... That may or may not be a good thing, depending on your perspective. But she's fine enough, so you turn your attention back to the warform and pick yourself up. You do a few little hops on the bouncy panel to squish it back into place, and you are #GoodToGo!

Seems that due to your great experience with the substance, you’re able to function better than anyone else hit by your [Pure]-[Marijuana]-[Smoke]-[Blast]! Though, with how your brain feels like it's thumping against your skull– and how you can feel the mucus in your sinus’ moving behind your face, you know you’re on the verge of GREENING OUT; maybe you should have used more caution with the keyword "Pure." While the [Cloud] was certainly some #GoodShit, you miiiiight have just smoked pure 100% THC, which is a little outside your capabilities; even as a serial stoner. You're the do a joint after work kinda guy, not a wake-and-bake 5g kinda guy. But never mind, that doesn't matter now! You got just one enemy left; it's time to deliver the ultimate coup d'état!

The jagged, breathing floor below you makes excellent material for a [Sword], you splay your gauntlet on the ground and bring it up holding a [Saber]. One with a grip of [Skin], a hilt and spine of [Metal], and a [Flesh]y blade connected with [Sinew] to the [Bone] that intertwines through the [Meat] and forms a sharp [Edge]. It's complete with [Serrated]-[Spike]s comprised of [Teeth]. It is a beautiful weapon fit for any vampire to wield. Perhaps, one day you'll be able to use your talents to make the greatest Halloween costumes across the land. But for now you'll just have to focus on being a WARRIOR!!!

You bounce a few times on the remaining cloning, paying no mind to how the room below has transformed into a horrific pulsating mass of melted bodies and other squicky things. And use the slight moment it gives you like a string to LEAP toward your metallic foes and smite your foul enemyyyyyy– oh fuck! –aaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAA!

Your foe, despite being disoriented, is still an elite warform. And when it sees a rather ditzy-looking fellow jumping at it, it is able to grab you by your sword arm and use your moment to throw you over its head and– *SLAM* you into the ground behind him, thankfully free of awaiting mouths. Still though, with only some snow to cushion the blow that… “Owwwwwww.” You groan. Your stoned mind forces you to immediately focus on the pain, which makes it totally so, so much worse. It's not like you cushioned your armor either, you armorsmith amateur.

>Otto Griggs took 1 damage

Once the stars, little duckies, and UFOs depart from around your head, you realize you might be #TurboScrewed. The warform looms over you, and black-red saliva(?) drip-dribbles onto your face. But just as it raises its clawed foot to squish your head like a balloon- a blue and black shape launches itself into its back side. Nails rend metal and talons tear flesh as Luvettel tackles the warform to the ground. Her wings and tail fray in an erratic display of ecstasy as she consumes the still-living warform, uncaring for the wires or metal that pollutes her meal.

Not to be stood up, you remember that you’re holding a rather sharp object and *StabStabStab* the warform as it tries to swipe at the Lady eating its heart. Up and down, and up and down, you bring the saber until the warform is reduced into a pile of mush. One that is quite easy to shove into the hungry mouths behind Luvettel and the one on her. Seems she is quite the messy eater, and shows no sign of visible discomfort regarding the material she’s ingesting… she should probably see a doctor, but for now you'll just chalk it up to demonic metabolism.

“Want some?” She asks, holding up a pile of gore, and you have to respectfully decline. Too much metal for your taste.

“You guys alright!?” Saki yells as she races over, “I tried to shoot ’em more, but Seventeen stopped me, sayin' you'd get hit!” She then comes to an immediate stop as she sees Luvettel devouring the corpse. “Umm, eto–”

“Thank you. For not shooting me.” You say, and you rise to your feet. Soon you’re accompanied by both Seventeen and Callum, riding his humongous skeleton as well. And after a bit of forceful convincing by the large warform to ‘get a move on,’ Luvettel is torn from the cadaver, and you’re brought to the end of the roof. In the nick of time, too– more and more of the paneling is losing distinct form and turning into roiling flesh. ”The–” you have to stop to breathe (read: cough), “the hell’s going on? Who were those guys? While in the facility, hungry?”

“Why the hell do you stink so much?” Saki asks, but you ignore her. Once someone smokes for long enough, the stench of marijuana becomes quite pleasant.

“Because he blasted himself with a psychoactive substance, I suggest creating more Dryad Root to fix that.” Seventeen says, “Those things, however, are likely what passes for an ‘Elite’ warform in this facility. This factory's version of myself. As for the loss of shape and composure? I calculate three likely scenarios: 1. The caretaker is reacting to our presence; 2. The caretaker is being hurt and/or losing control; 3. She is attempting to use her entire body as a weapon against the crusader army. Note that these are not mutually exclusive.”

You see Luvettel stare down Callum like a cat looking at a bird. Even though the necromancer dwarfs the demon in his skeletal mech, he still shivers and takes a few steps back. And when she lunges, he doesn't even raise an arm to defend himself, merely flails back in panic. Luckily for him, he was the target.

The roof ends in a cliffside that rises into the clouds above, though various cyclopean outcroppings protrude from the rock– seemingly comprising a gigantic reverse conical structure. And Luvettel presses her whole face to it and sniffs rapidly, “Hehehehehe… it's here, it's here!” she whispers, tweaking.

“Indeed, the caretaker should be just behind this wall. Otto, I leave it to you to forge an entrance or to prepare in some other way before doing so.” Seventeen instructs.

You press your hand to the wall and close your eyes. You feel a rhythmic thumping, one that almost matches your breath, and whether through your own intuition or through that of the passenger inside, you can feel the wailing torment just a few feet beyond. You’re filled with emotions not your own, and none of them nice– agony, despair, misery, and all other types of synonyms. Tears well at the corner of your eyes, and before these emotions consume you, you let go.

“A few things,” you say with haggard breath, “I got a few things I want first.” You eye Luvettel pressing her whole face to the wall next to you, then turn to Callum. “Your master, what’s he like?”

Callum takes an unconscious step back, obviously not expecting to be made the center of attention. “I-I have a few– a few on this trip at least. Master Zekhya the Lich, Master Athel the Wight, and Master Wulfguad the Vampire. They are all pillars of the Commonwealth in their own right- each having devoted centuries of service to the Isle. Athel has the capability of controlling thousands of undead and has served as both a Minister of War and Agriculture throughout the years. Fatuously, the crusaders limited the number able to serve in their ranks due to ‘ethical concerns.’ Hogwash, I say. Similarly, Wulfguad is a board member of a large trading company, representing the Isle to the more 'mortal' realms. And Master Zekhya is an ancient being, said to have ascended to lichdom in the last age, and played a part in the raising of the Commonwealth from the ground to serve as a safe haven for practitioners of all types of magic.” Callum says, much wordier than any previous comment he has made since. It almost sounds as if he was reading from a textbook– you wonder how many times his masters drilled this information into his head.

“Luvettel, do you have anything to say to that?” You ask, wondering if you can get the other necromancer to back the information up. Even if Callum has no reason to lie.

“Hmm? Yes? Undead goooood~,” She mutters, but behind her, Bong gives you a thumbs up, which you guess is going to have to be good enough.

“Think we'll run into them in there?” Saki asks.

“I-I don't know. I hope so, b-but this place is terrifying.” More so than a floating island of undead? “T-though I can assure you that if any of them are still amongst the mortals, it will most certainly be Master Zekhya. He has seen far worse, even if he oft refuses to speak of such.” Good info, you think. You’re about to ask for more about this Master Zekhya, but the ground is getting more unstable with every second, and for that reason you should probably hurry things along instead.

“Good to know, thanks.” You say, “Now Sev, what about you?”

“What about me?”

“Do you have anything you can tell us about the caretaker?” She has been taciturn about this since Fort Estelle. But if you’re going to get anything out of her, it’s going to be now.
>>
>>6466404
“You shall see soon enough. All you need to remember is to aim for the heart and head, and she will die like the rest.” She affirms, her body language clearly suggesting she wants to get a move on.

“Oh, come on!” You say, your less-than-sober state making your real thoughts slip out a bit more than intended through your mouth. “There has to be some sort of juicy info, right? Weakness? Shared history? Forbidden romance? Anything we can use to complete the mission? We’re–” You gesture to everyone, “Not exactly going to get a second chance.”

“My databanks contain no knowledge of her corrupted state, and what I do know about her previous one will likely be superficial at best. We are wasting time here. All that is required is that we kill her like we killed everything before.”

Fine, time to use your secret weapon.“Come on, Please?!” You say with puppy-dog eyes and battered lashes.

“What are you doing? You look foolish.”

“Please?!”

“Otto, we are wasting valuable time.”

“Please?!”

“Otto, I am ordering you to make a path.”

“Please?!”

“Otto–”

“It’s going to be quicker if you just cave.” Saki says, her helmet masking her giggle.

“Yeah, would you do it for a scooby-snack?”

“A what?”

You throw Saki a freshly [Transmute]d [Dryad Root], which she wastes no time in eating. Regardless of the healing effects, that thing is fucking good. And you dangle the second in front of Seventeen– implying you’ll give it to her if she answers your question. She snatches it far faster than you can react. It actually startles you a bit.

“Withholding equipment from comrades is a punishable offense, Otto.” Oh, come on, she could at least play along a little bit! You look back at the now-collapsing ceiling and realize this may not be the time. Oops.

“Seriously,” you try, “Any advantage could help me kill her. I’m serious.”

Her body whirls as she finishes the root, and she makes a big show of sighing. “Fine, but you will only receive a brief summary–”

>Saki and Seventeen are fully healed!!

“The caretaker of Factory XI-187, now colloquially known as the ‘Widow,’ Was created many centuries before me during the War between Heaven and Earth. It was a terrible time when weapons unlike any seen in the modern era were deployed en masse as figures that could only be called ’Divine’ wrestled for control of this plane. Back then, I was nothing more than a berserker unit, and much of my time was spent in a total rage, limiting my mental faculties– I am not lying when I say my memory is hazy. But the Widow, I believe she was known as Nyx at the time, was a standard caretaker of a standard facility. The only remarkable thing about her was the fact she managed to fall in love with a mortal. A concept once thought incapable of warforms.”

“Then he died,” Saki concludes for her.
>>
>>6466405
“Of course,” Seventeen affirms, “It is where the name comes from. Though the rest of the story is standard as well. The war must have ended, seeing as the world still exists today, and Factory XI-187 entered a state of dormancy. Likely in the long years since then, and now, with the caretaker as the only being in an ‘awake’ sense and without her lover, she went crazy or at least became susceptible to the Demon Lord’s corruption. I believe putting her out of her misery is the only acceptable course of action now, which is why we are here and why we should not waste time. Do you have any more irrelevant questions?”

“Ye–” You’re cut off.

“No, I do not have any reason to lie about this. I am not.” Seventeen says, completely and totally, and utterly, and sincerely honest.

“Wait, I have a question!” Saki says, making Seventeen have to restrain herself from hitting the wall herself.

“Yes, Saki?”

“Why does she have a name like Nyx and you’re Seventeen? I thought all warforms were named after numbers.”

“That’s racist–”

‘Fuck. Off!”

You can see the smile Seventeen tries to suppress. You can! “I took the name Seventeen after my awakening in honor of Factory XI-17, my factory of birth. I needed a name to sign the documents the Blackiron Pact brought, and I couldn't think of another. And other questions?” She asks in a tone that implies the next person to raise their hand is going to get their head punched off.

“No, I just gotta–” You put your hand to your chest and interweave [Absorb] and [Barrier] Runes across your armor.

You let out a breath you’ve been holding a long time, as your gauntlet presses against the wall. “Yeah… Ready as I’ll ever be.” For the briefest of moments, you let yourself pause before casting, imbuing the wall with the [Dissolve] rune. It sure has been a hell of a week, huh? You look back and see the outdoor facility losing its form behind you. You also see your “friends.” Haaah, maybe that’s what you’d say if you were the protagonist of some shonen manga. Sadly, you’re not. You’re just you. So maybe it’d be more accurate to say you're looking at the people you’ve met along the way. Saki, the first girl you met upon being summoned to Estelle’s Locket, seeing as she immediately started screaming at those mages. Seventeen, the one who ordered your summoning and made sure you’re able to be where you are now. Lady Luvettel, the demon you were once tasked to kill, and who has fallen hopelessly for you. And Brother Callum, who you only just met a bit ago and who probably doesn’t want anything to do with you. Hell, you’ll even throw in Bong and Callum’s minions– they’re here too.

It’s honestly a miracle that you’ve all made it this far. Or maybe you can chalk that up to your elite skillz… Haaah, it’s hard to joke at a time like this, even for you. You just have this feeling in your heart, a gnawing, dreadful sense that if anyone is going to die, it’s going to be in the next few minutes. A foreign sensation, one you’re getting all too used to, feels the need to inform you that your next actions could decide exactly who LIVES/DIES. Thanks for that, btw. Just what you wanted to hear.

But maybe it’s what you must.

As you mutter [Dispel], the metal wall gives way to cords of [Flesh] that move like snakes in a jar. It’s disgusting, but what hasn’t been in the last few days. You’re probably more desensitized than a liveleak viewer by now. So you press on– even as you dissolve whole bodies that jet from the wall, their grasping arms and pleading faces beg you to save them. But you’ve no time for that, because soon the hole is big enough for Luvettel, for Saki, and for Seventeen, and you can see inside. Though that isn’t saying much– a tornado of blood and other fleshy bits swirls around the Heart like a hurricane. You can’t tell how far the drop is– if there even is one– or where exactly the caretaker is. In fact, you can hear far more than you can see, and none of that is pleasant. From static screeches to dreadful wails, complemented by the sticky humidity of the room and odor of death– it really feels like you’re about to plunge feet first into hell again. So naturally, you conjure up a [Bone]-[Helmet], much like that of the diving suit, and lead the way–

>>6467152
A large hand pulls you back, and another throws Callum’s three remaining zombies down. “To cushion the blow,” Seventeen says to you before turning to address everyone, uncaring of the Brother’s protests. “There is a lot I should likely say right now. I only wish I were constructed with the capability to do so. But I am a berserker, and instead I will simply lead the charge. I thank you all for accompanying me so far, and I wish you the best of luck.” She closes her eyes, and her body whirls, for what may be the final time as she composes her thoughts– only for a smile, as wide as when you first caught her watching you sleep, to adorn her face, and her eyes gain a quality no-quite lucid. “I will leave you all this, then. Glory, to the first to die!” And with that she jumps through the hole, and you know that whatever comes in the next battle, you’ve reached the end of this leg of your Fantasy Quest… You wish you could get a refund– or maybe that the world wasn’t spinning so.

Callum goes next, his bone-mech turning a dozen on the melted flesh wall into mince meat as he uses friction to slow his descent. Saki, the trooper, gives you a firm nod and heads down herself– her long hair blazing in the vortex. Bong joins them shortly after, giving you a salute on his way down. And that leaves you with Luvettel. Despite her drugged state, she still presents you a hand– and you fly down together. Though, instead of carrying you, she functions more like a clingy/gropey backpack.

https://youtu.be/7aakdKZUcuE?si=qAq2gahHH_W_38wE

It’s hard to believe you’re not dreaming as you dodge flailing limbs and discordant bodies. Vines of intestines, tipped with serrated teeth, lash out and try to grab Luvettel, and she bravely carries you to the bottom of the pit. You can’t see five feet in front of you because of rain of blood localized entirely within this chamber– Though with how Luvettel howls in delight, you’re sure whatever undead being she smells must be close. That and the sickly green lashes of energy that cut through the fleshy walls. Callum must make the same conclusion as he quickly separates from the group– despite Seventeen’s cry, calling for a name you can’t hear over the wind– before a slew of metal and bone hooks, linked to the writhing fleshwhips, catch in his armor and begin to tear the golem apart– while others tear at his own flesh.

>Brother Callum has lost 1 health, and his armor is breaking
>>
>>6467153
Seventeen shakes her head at the display and forges on towards the epicenter of the room, a massive pillar of blood that flows from the floor to the sky, concealing the caretaker within. Saki, for her part, unleashes a torrent of gunfire, at first trying to put those on the wall out of their misery, before quickly changing her priority to the clawed tentacles, and then to the dark figures just out of sight in the red rain. There must be more elites crawling down in– OW! You immediately look down towards the source of the pain and see the bodies of Callum’s last three zombies dissolving in a sickly green fluid… [Battery Acid]? It’s at least acidic enough to dissolve parts of your bone sabaton, though you remove your foot from the puddle before any lasting damage can set in. Seems there’s a bunch of this stuff lying around, and that Saki is too concentrated to notice herself walking into a deep puddle of it as the figures begin to charge at her.

>Saki Nishimure has lost 1 health

Though unlike your comrades desperately fighting to take control of the Heart, Luvettel stares at everything like a child in a candy shop. She giggles, she flutters, and despite Bong trying to pull her back to reality– her unclear mind makes her wander quite close to the wall of bodies that desperately reach out for her with horrid arms– either for help or so that she can join them; you’ve no idea. If she’s not pulled out of her little ‘Luvettel-Land,’ she might become more of a liability than an asset in this fight. Damn it, everything is already going to shit! What the hell are YOU of all people supposed to do?!

>Cast [Dispel]-[Blood] so you can actually see worth a damn.

Haven't asked in the past but I figure I should now--do we get to choose multiple options here, or just one?
>>
>>6467163

As I've said in >>6460643, as long as there's a [Write-in] option, you can vote how you please. Though obviously, a more coherent plan will have better results, while an incoherent one will have worse- perhaps even deadly- results.

When I specify LIVE/DIE that means I'm going to be a bit meaner in the following scene, and characters can die way more easily.[/spoiler
>>
>>6467155
Let's break down the situation here. Saki can take care of herself. Luvettel is about to get maimed but she's at full health and armoured. Seventeen is an absolute juggernaut.

Meanwhile, Callum is about to get himself ripped to shreds, but if he can reach wherever he's going, we'll likely have a powerful necromancer brought in to join the fight. That would help turn the tide and buy us time to recover. [Dispel]-[Blood] is tempting but would also expose us to whatever leftover ranged defenses are here, and I assume there are some.

[Ascend]ing when we have no idea where our target is or visibility would be a waste. Let's save our trump card for a worst-case scenario. Right now, I think helping Callum is our best bet, as a party.

Damn it, the girls can handle themselves! You've seen their strength on the journey, but Callum? The guy’s going to get ripped to shreds if you don't do something, and fast! As the skeletal golem is being torn limb from limb by the serrated intestines, you run up and cast [Control]-[Flesh]-[Tentacle] to urge them to loosen their grip. Thankfully, with just that little bit of help, Callum's able to wiggle out of their grasp and use the golem's massive paw to grab as many of them as possible and pull–

*SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE–

A horrific screech almost deafens you as the red ropes pull free, but you're not quite sure if that's because of the pain he’s able to inflict or from the explosions behind you. Saki must have used some of her grenades to stop the elites from getting to her.

Saki Nishimure used 2 grenades

You allow yourself a quick glance back (well, the explosion forces your attention), and you see Seventeen using flesh-vines she grabbed herself to deal with the half-gone remnants of corrupted warforms. Though it looks like she's going to be occupied with Saki for a while, there looks to be no end to them. And a few feet away, Luvettel seems to be having the time of her life tearing out the hearts of the unfortunate fools grafted to the wall of flesh, even as Bong tries to pull her away. She doesn't seem to even care about the nails and claws that gorge her blue skin as she funnels dark power into the now-corpses. At least Saki and Seventeen will keep the reinforcements from getting to her. It's up to the little demon herself to make sure she doesn't die.

>Luvettel lost 1 health

“Callum!” You call out as you reach his bone exosuit, “Any idea where your master is?!” You need to shout even as you stand next to him so that your voice can be heard over the swirling vortex of gore.

“He’s up ahead!” He calls back, “I was right, it is Master Zekhya! Just try and follow the cackling!”

You strain your ears, and sure enough, the faint sound of maniacal laughter can be heard from just up ahead. “Let’s press on!” You shout, “The ladies can manage for a few minutes while we get his aid!”

“Good idea! Just let me do the talking!”

“Fine with me!”

The two of you trudge through crimson muck and splash through sickly fluids (with you hitching a ride on the side of the mech so as not to be dissolved) until you reach what you think is the front of the chamber. As it comes into sight– and you lose sight of your other allies– things get a little more stable. Much of the meat seems to have rotted away, and the flesh wall has been replaced with crumpled bone piles on the floor. The culprit of this carnage (of carnage) is plain to see– flowing black robes billow in the artificial wind as a laughing skeleton conjures sigils and pentagrams in the area to shoot magic, similar to Luvettel's but much more refined. “KEHEHEHE! YOU THINK THIS IS ENOUGH TO MATCH ME, ANCIENT ONE?!” The skeleton bellows as his spells struggle to penetrate the raging blood vortex. “ME? ZEKHYA THE ASCENDANT– PRACTITIONER OF THE DARKNESS? HE WHO IS ABOVE ALL? KEHEHEHEHE!!!”

Well, he seems stable enough. “MASTER!” Callum shouts, loud enough to tear his throat, while you [Control] another few [Flesh]-[Vine]s to prevent just that.

“HMM? AH, CALLUM, MY BOY! The Lich shouts, “YOU’VE ARRIVED JUST IN TIME. COME, I HAVE NEED OF YOU, KEHEHE– WAIT, WHO IS THAT?”

As Callum struggles to remember your name, you’re reminded of what Luvettel said on the roof, just a moment ago. That Callum’s masters would probably ‘do the same thing.’ You look to the white-haired man, then to the Lich, who up until now had been taking the caretaker on his own. Is that… Is that something you should try to prevent?

Luvettel's a demon (and an ignorant retard) so I'm not sure I trust her word on this. Surely you aren't allowed to just arbitrarily murder people and turn them into undead minions whenever you please in the Commonwealth. They'd hardly be any better than the demons.

“His name is O-uh-Otto! A powerful sorcerer from the Pact!” Callum shouts as you cast a [Barrier] to stop a few stray limbs from smacking into both of you. How the fuck is the wind getting so fast in here?! Is there a giant fan or something under the blood-vortex?!

“KEHE, THAT WOULD EXPLAIN WHY HE LOOKS SO WEIRD!” The lich laughs, and your offense must be clear on your face as he quickly amends, “NOT YOUR MEATSUIT BOY, YOUR MANA– THE THING THAT TRULY MATTERS!

“:/” You express.

“ NEVER MIND THAT, JUST STAY PUT, SIR OTTO. AND COME HERE, BROTHER CALLUM, I BELIEVE I MUST NOW FAST-TRACK YOUR NEXT PROMOTION! KEHE! KNOW THAT I TRULY WISH I HAD MORE TIME TO PERFECT YOU, BUT THE CIRCUMSTANCES AT HAND–”

“I-I understand, Master. B-but I am ready for any challenges– y-you have prepared me well!” Callum gulps before complying, only leaving his skeletal mech once he's right in front of the skeleton. You’re about to focus your attention elsewhere, for there are plenty more important scenes relevant to your survival around you– when the bleached skeleton moves. In a show of dexterity, and the flourish of a dramatician, the Lich brings a small blade from his robe and across Callum's throat. Callum clutches at his neck, wide-eyed, as blood pours through his fingers, but his frail form is unable to stop the Lich from peeling his arms away and sticking his bony talons into his jugular.

>Brother Callum lost 2 health

“OH HOW I DO WISH I HAD TIME TO MAKE THIS PROCEDURE PAINLESS, BUT ALAS. The lich claps his hands twice, "NOW THEN! BROTHER CALLUM, REVEAL TO ME THE TRUTH OF YOUR SOUL!!” You can physically FEEL the [Purple]-[Mana] Master Zekhya [Expel]s into Callum, completely overflowing the dying man until his body bloats like when you squeeze one of those squishy toys sold at stands in the middle of malls. In a disgusting and gory display (but what isn't these days), Callum briefly grows three times his size as you witness dark colors swirl angrily underneath his skin that's stretched to its limits–

*POP*

>Brother Callum has died

You would comment on how the rupture of Callum’s body covers you in blood and gore if you weren't already SOAKED, so instead you'll just record the next immediate moments as you stand there in shock. Floating where Callum just was is a blue Whispy-Thing that danced around just above Zekhya's outstretched hand. “A whisp then? I should have thought as much. Such a wonderful canvas you have turned out to be, my boy!” he chuckles, no longer feeling the need to shout. His fingers poke holes in the [Blue Flame] as he stretches it out like a child with Play-Doh. “Now then, I have prepared a feast for you, my boy. I command you to [Devour] their souls and [Consume] this annoying vortex with your might!

With his free hand, the Lich conjures energy from the bone piles and [Feed]s it into Callum’s [Flame], making him crackle and roar with fiery ‘life’ before he [Feed]s Callum himself into the maws of a wounded body melded with the wall– one with scars of [Necrotic]-[Mana] across it. And just as you’re about to forget yourself and attack the Lich for his disposal of Callum– something miraculous happens. For the scars along the skinless body burn with a blazing [Blue Flame] as the flesh begins to melt before the flame spreads to the next body– to the next– until the great walls of flesh are replaced by one wall of a blazing flame. Terrific wails fill the chambers, spoken by both caretaker and burning victims alike. Until even their very lungs burn, silencing them forevermore.

But with their silence, so too does the room quiet. The hurricane stops, and you no longer must struggle to stand, while the blue embers left on smoldering skeletons of those embedded in the wall give just enough light to see. Only the tornado of flowing blood at the center of the room still stands to disrupt you from reaching the caretaker. J-just what was that?

“Shocked sorcerer? Many are when they first witness my capabilities!” The Lich bows as you stare at him, wide-eyed, as the wisp returns to his side, now nothing more than a simple floating ball of blue fire. “All I ask is that you save your questions until the end of the show– if you happen to survive that long. I ask that you try, if only to make things simpler once I deal with this monstrosity. Though I suppose it will be no great shame if you cannot. I am certain I can make great things using the power of your golden soul, kehehe!”

This motherfucker–

“Oh, and do mind the warforms behind you, kehe!”

Immediately, you turn around to see about a dozen elites zeroing in on your position. What the Hell!? You didn’t even notice them before? How long were they following you? Were they hiding in the vortex? Those questions, and many more, race through your mind as the first lunges for you, and you–

The warforms spread out in a small semi-circle, surrounding you and the lich. On one side of the circle, they slowly inch forward to position you away from the entrance– as if escaping was ever in your plans to begin with. They’re going to be sorely mistaken, just like you are when one analyses you’re the weaker opponent and pounces– Automatically your body falls to the floor, though as the warform leaps over you, you raise a hand. “[Control]-[Artificial]-[Construct]!” You scream as the spell flies up your arm and bursts from your palm. And for the briefest of moments, you can see yourself cowering with its eyes before someone screams in torment. But you don’t think it’s you.

The warform spins out of control after its failed attack, too confused to even move as its soul competes with yours– before it ends up at the lich’s feet. With a single hand, Zekhya molds Callum into a [Sharp]-[Spirit]-[Blade], and with that same hand sends him down to decapitate the corrupt being. Dammit, you didn’t even get to try purifying that guy. “Do continue, Sir Otto.” Zekhya says with a gesture for you to get up. “That was quite the fascinating display, indeed.”

“Yeah, thanks.” You sarcastically mutter as you pick yourself back up– just in time for the next warform to break rank and gun for you. Another animalistic charge, though, with your more focused mind, you’re able to bring it to a full halt before it can reach your kneeling form. The other warforms scream and bark as you compel the warform to kneel itself so that you can [Bind]-[it]-[to]-(You), though as you get closer, three more break rank and move in to disrupt the process. Though, while there’s no change to their physical behavior, you get the impression they’re… scared? You’d question if they can even feel that– but something deep inside assures you they can.

Callum, thrown with the speed of a bullet, manages to put another warform out of action, but the two others grab your armored arms and pull. Hard. Before their teeth come down on a shoulder and bicep. You scream in agony, but this just means they're close enough that there’s no way they can dodge your magic. You manage to maneuver your hands to touch a part of their bodies and [Purify], [Purify], [PURIFY], [PURIFY!!!]– Ow, OW, OWIE!

>Otto Griggs lost 1 Health

You’re blinded by a flash of radiant light as the two warforms EXPLODE next to you. By the time your eyes adjust, the only thing that remains of their presence is ash and bloody holes in your armor. That’s… not what you wanted to happen– but you’re kinda also thankful that it did, even if you’re pretty exhausted after the fact. Good thing there’s still the warform you were binding, dazed on the ground– you reach a hand down and [Absorb]-[Mana], reducing it to nothing but a metallic husk but recharging your Energy in the process.
>>
>>6469056
The circle of warforms is smaller now, and they’re talking more amongst each other. They’re probably going to be the only practice you’re gonna get for perfecting your spell. You want to heal them, but it’s not like you got a rune for that. Do you just need more practice with [Purify]? Is your mind not able to accept that as a healing spell? Is it because you’ve been surrounded by nothing but death and annihilation all week? You managed to save Saki’s life by pumping her full of [Mana], but will that work? Or are you just going to Ubercharge one of these assholes?

And what’s with that distant chopping noise you keep hearing?

This should stabilize the warform so that we can get in there and cleanse it, insofar as it can be cleansed. Hopefully the Lich doesn't stab us in the back so he can eat our soul. Your hands are shaking, though that’s nothing new, but right now that observation is pretty important. You’ve always been a pretty anxious guy, you’ll admit– scared of shadows, much less real monsters. But– but what if you didn’t have to be? What if at the start of every battle you could do something like Seventeen and enter a sorta trance/zenstate? You’re not really an angry guy, not usually, you’ve always been pretty nonchalant when your fucking life wasn’t on the line. So, there’s no reason to follow in Sev’s footsteps of entering beserky chudragey state, but why not try to invert it? Focus on your strengths instead? Your too-cool-for-school swagger. Instead of going into [Berserk]-[Rage], you fill yourself with [Calm]. Instantly, your hands stop shaking, you think clearly, and you become a bit more rational overall. So, only kinda.

There are eight warforms left– seven, you correct when one gets a bit too close to Master Zekhya, seven warforms. The [Bind]/[Control] spell seems to work by linking your mind with theirs and dominating them with your will– and while you’re not sure how much of that you got, you’re not intending to play fair right now. You flourish with your [Saber] and point towards a warform at the center of the pack, a true-to-life challenge to duel. You’d throw a glove off if you weren’t worried about your entire hand being eaten.

The warform looks at its buddies, and they exchange static before it steps forward, not as a feral beast like the ones before, but as a proud warrior with a puffed chest. You hear an inquisitive hum from the skeleton behind you, but pay it no mind– you can’t waste this chance. Normally, you’d never be able to do this, but with a newfound sense of [Calm], and maybe because your senses aren’t quite correct yet after boxboxing yourself, somewhere within you you find the ability to CHARGE!!! With a great leap forward, and saber raised, you throw yourself at the warform– who, like a well trained soldier, dodged and gabs hold of your sword-arm by the wrist and Squeezes. Bone cracks, and blood gushes, but your smile anyway–

>Otto Griggs took 1 damage
>>
>>6469737
Cuz, you weren’t trying to hit him with that anyway. For the briefest second, your left hand touches its chest before it’s grabbed as well– but not before a sense of [Calm] is instilled into the elite, and it immediately needs to mentally compete with the plethora of [Bind]s and [Control]s you pumped in as well. Graphic displays of excruciating torture flow into your mind (S-so many maggots, ew) as you tangle with the warform's very being– while it experiences blissfully empty days and the monotony of urban life. But it’s a strong being, and while it’s stunned, you need to do a little bit more to [Chain] it to you– at least that’s what your rational mind is telling you, instead of screaming and crying over your mangled wrist. So you combine both [Bind] and [Control] together, in your mind, and [Dominate] the warform’s very [Soul].

The warform lets go of your arms and looks at you with clouded sensors, like a freshly raised skeleton would look at Luvettel. It needs orders, so you give them. “Go kill your friends.” You say, and it complies.

The elites look around in panic as one of their own goes turncoat, and this only intensifies when you get your hands on another in the ensuing chaos. Freshly torn limbs go flying, swords of [Bone] and [Soul] dance with [Razor Sharp] claws as you and the lich skirt the edges of the melee. One warform is thrown into a pit of [Acid] while one of yours is bitten through like a particularly crunchy and gushy Oreo. “An interesting spell, Sir Otto, I would love to chat about it when this is all over! the lich says with humor in his voice. You merely grunt in reply.

Ratatatatatatata– a distant noise echoes as you slay the final enemy warform by shoving it into the vortex of [Acid]-[Blood] that dominates the center of the room.

The clash is short and bloody, but eventually only one warform is left standing– one of yours. Though standing may be giving its half-ruined body a bit too much credit. “Wait!” You stop the lich from ending it. “I– I still got to try something.” You mutter, breathing heavily.

“Hm? Another trick to show off? Please, be my guest, kehe…” You don’t like his sly tone of voice, but whatever. It's not important right now, not as long as he’s helping out. And you got a feeling there are only a few seconds before something bad happens, and if you don’t manage to succeed here, Sev might be as good as forfeit. Granted, she isn’t dead already.

But all that means is you gotta do is save this guy… somehow.

Hmm... From what we know, corruption is caused by damage to the [Soul]. So if we want to [Purify] the Widow, we'll eventually need to cleanse her [Soul]. The problem I see though is that the [Soul] is not necessarily tied to her lack of empathy and the leftover trauma she's carrying, and a [Purified] [Soul] won't necessarily immediately cure her of any lingering malice. On the other hand, it's likely she has almost zero [Humanity] leftover over the eons. She is seriously insane and dealing with some existential self-loathing, both aspects that directly tie into her [Mind].

If we can [Purify] her, she may become lucid and aware of her actions, even if her [Soul] is still tainted and she lacks all [Humanity]. That could be a strong route to diplomacy. It would not be a permanent solution, though, she needs a cleansed [Soul] if she's to find any kind of peace in the long-run.

What do you guys think? Should we go for the obvious route by focusing on her [Soul] or should we bring lucidity to her [Mind]?

With the warform [Calm] and under your control, you only feel a slight tinge of fear when you grab hold of its face– next to its many sharp teeth. It's rather hard to do, seeing as your hands might actually be hanging by a thread under your shredded armor– but you managed to regrow an entire arm before; you'll be fine. You hope. “Alright, let's see here.” You mutter as your [Mana] connects with its. You feel around a bit– not exactly sure where you should focus your attention; maybe it's [Soul]? It's [Mind]? How do you even reach that?

No, maybe you’re thinking too hard– when you don't have the time to think, no less. You'll focus on its extension components, its metallic skin, its hardware. Is it assembled like an actual computer? At least you know those– Only one way to find out. “[Purify]-[Metal],” you whisper, and the rust begins to heal. Damage that may have spanned centuries or only a few minutes heals at a rapid pace as its [Blackiron] body gains a new luster unseen even by the soldiers at Estelle’s Locket, though a penal battalion might not have paid too much attention to equipment maintenance even if they did have a stickler of a quartermaster.

Soon enough, the corrupted warform looks less like something out of a slasher flick and instead like an actual warrior… but there's no clarity to be seen behind its three eyes. And while the metal has extended over it– its rancid flesh hasn't gone away. You made something powerful, and completely under your control– you've no doubt. But that isn’t mutually exclusive with what you were trying to do. In the end, you failed. Goddammit.

“That’s quite the minion you have there.” The Lich says as he squats down beside you. “But from that dour expression, I can tell that wasn't quite what you were intending.”

“I-” You start, but a raised phalange cuts you off.

“While time permits, I'd like to pose a quick hypothetical. Say a man got shot, killed instantly by a wizard he happened to annoy. And immediately, the wizard who had been practicing necromancy closed the wound, cast a preservation spell on his body, and crucified him. After, say, a century, when his trapped soul could do nothing but rot and fester, the wizard fully healed him and released his bonds. What do you think would become of him? Certainly, he may relearn to crawl, to growl, to gnash– but would that being, more a soul possessing a corpse than something truly living, still be called human?”

“What?”

“Ah, perhaps that one is hard to translate between cultures. Let me ask you a simpler question. Can you heal the Scaled Pox by simply popping its boils and plucking the squama? Or does the root of the disease lie deeper than that?”

“What are you saying–?”

The lich claps his metacarpals and stands, “Ah, but I believe that is all the time we have, kehe!” and then the wall behind him explodes.

“Oh what the FUCK!” You hear Saki scream from across the chamber as bone and debris fly through the room, the epicenter of which being the hole you originally dissolved to drop in. It takes almost no time for the smoke to clear as another fucking helicopter makes its appearance with a burst of gunfire– that lucky doesn't seem able to piece the blood-vortex separating you from it. Seventeen, Saki, and Luvettel all sprint toward your location, looking worse for wear but not followed by any warforms.

“Hm? A demon, here?” you hear the lich say as you feel [Arcana] build within his hands.

“Wait, she's with us!” You shout, causing the lich to raise an eyebrow (if he could, Trust). “Actually, wait. Where's Bong?” You ask the tiny demon.

“I added him to my art piece!” She announces with a big smile and a bigger gesture to the wall… where the skeletal remnants of the corpses squirm and writhe in rereanimation– trying desperately and futilely to grasp the helicopter lingering outside as it also tries, and fails, to shoot you past the blood tornado.

“You, uh–” You don't really know what to say.

“The mana signature? Do I know you?” The lich asks.

“Of course you do!” Luvettel exclaims, “I am Lady Luvettel, the Noblest of all!”

The lich holds his chin in his fingers, and he ponders, “No… That’s not it…”

“We will have time for introductions later!” Seventeen barks, “Otto, the Red Cocoon is being activated by a large turbine under this room. Without destroying the turbine, it will be almost impossible to land a killing blow on her. Destroy it.”

“Y-you mean the blood vortex, right?”

“Yes, the blood vortex.”

“Right, well.” The ground shakes as the gunship widens the hole with another barrage of rockets. “There's always one more thing.” Tsk.

Okay, so [Purify]-[Metal] sort of works but it leaves them as empty shells that we can easily exert control over. What I THINK Zekhya is trying to tell us is that purification alone won't be enough to fix these wirebacks because they're fundamentally broken, maybe? So perhaps instead of [Purify], we [Mend] them? Or we [Mend] their souls THEN [Purify] their bodies? I don't know. Any ideas?

Hmm... what if we put a rune of [Paralysis] on [Metal], and then [Purified] them more thoroughly while they're unable to move? Likely starting from the [Soul] and then going outwards. I agree with your proposed action, it seems like the least dangerous route and path of least resistance to scrapping this [Blood] turbine, unless it turns out to be levitating.

Almost there, you’re almost done. Once this is over, you'll be able to take a nice hot bath and a 72-hour nap. All you gotta do now is unveil the caretaker and do, well, something that isn't going to end up with anyone else dead. Should be easy enough. Just got to dig a little bit underneath– it’s just like you’re playing a fucked up Minecraft mod. Fuck, you can't feel your hands. T-that's fine though, you don't need them for this part. You just need to [Move]-[Acid] and pool it at the edge of the vortex, and with a little help from [Dissolve] you’re able to make it eat through both metal and flesh like a pit bull named princess.

And there you have it, there's a sizable hole in the floor just big enough to– “GET DOWN,” Seventeen shouts and shoves you in said direction. Traces of acid scorch your armor, but other than some bruising you’re left unharmed– remarkable, seeing as a good chunk of the room collapsed as the gunship shot another barrage of missiles, trying its hardest to smoke you out. It's too late for that, though, for while the pit you peer into is dark and dreadful, some [Light] allows you to see just enough of a colossal machine under the chamber to destroy it. [Dissolve]-[Vaporize]-[Decay]-[Rot]– and all manner of bad feelings are funneled into the spell as pain begins to overwhelm you, and your mind fogs. You must be loosing your sense of [Calm], or better yet, your [Cool], hehe– *Cough* *Cough* fuck, you can taste [Blood].

You bring your head up from the pit as another explosion rocks the room, this one caused by your mischief instead of the enemies. You’re covered in blood again, as the vortex dissipates– revealing the caretaker herself. Like a massive centipede built into the ceiling, with a labyrinth of cables keeping her afloat, she screams with the voice of a hundred souls from a maw that extends from the bottom of her chin along her underside to the ceiling. Great mandibles extend from the long silicon hair that covers her face while massive insectoid legs unfurl and stretch out across the room. You blink hard as saliva drools onto your armor as the caretaker looks around and analyses the room.

“S/_|-EEv–SEVEntEen?!” it sputters, and a singular beady eye locks onto your commander. All ready their weapons, from Saki preparing to brawl to the Gunship revving its machine guns, as the tension in the room builds– yet, no one moves a muscle. That is until–

“HALT EVILDOERS!” Debris flies everywhere as the chamber's front gate, previously covered from the missile explosion, is blown wide open. And standing there, like a party of adventurers, are four of the most beautiful women you've ever seen, and a pretty average short guy. T-that must be–

*SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE–*
>>
>>6471175
As if reacting in pain to the mere presence of the newcomer, the caretaker flails around the room– mechanical limbs moving erratically as she slams her body into wall after wall. The gunship fires haphazardly, most being blocked by the caretaker's own exoskeleton, but she pays it no mind; she's too busy panicking over the– the–

[Pain] envelops you as, by mere chance, one of her legs pierces through your heart. It's so sudden, such a shock, you don't even have time to comprehend that your body is being flown– you can't hear the blood-curdling scream– can't even process that the world is getting darker… so dark and so quick… your back hits something hard, and something blue enters your vision. But as it's too blurry to make out… you.. y-you’re dead– aren't you?

>Otto Griggs has lost 1 health
>Otto Griggs has died

…

…

Like a forgotten keepsake, left in the path of a tornado, your body flies every which way. In your fading mind, the only thing you can feel is a sickly sense of vertigo, even as a soul not your own tries desperately to rage against a dying Otto… And yet, somehow your mangled hand managed to clutch onto the leg that killed you, and your cracked lips whisper–

>”A-asch.. auh– [Ascend].”

>Some time earlier

“Saint's wrath feels like I’ve been swallowed by a Sky Leviathan. Again.” You snark as you press your boot down on a particularly bloated chunk of flesh. It makes a sound not dissimilar to a fart. “No wonder we can't find the Commonwealth guys– if I knew the situation was this bad in the offices, I’d have gone here first.” In fact, if you didn't know this was supposed to be an office, you'd have never guessed. You’re pretty sure you'd be hard-pressed to get any work done in a fucked up infected stomach. You’re into a few weird things, but this certainly isn’t one of them.

“This was likely a recent development,” Elspeth says as she inspects the room, doubt she's gonna find anything other than half-digested bodies, though.

“The room’s looking at me wrong. Can I kill it?” Vesper asks as a wall of eyes stares at her. She slashes at them without getting permission. Not like she really needs any.

“To corrupt an entire building in such a way… what was the price?” Chrysame mutters, praying for those lost.

“Do you really want to know?” Esmeralda replies sardonically. “Because I can assure you that the rituals required sure weren't pretty.” She pauses and her lips purse. “Unless you’re a demon, that is.”

“What's done is done.” You say, “And as far as I'm concerned, the sooner we can blow this whole thing up, the better. We just gotta take care of the caretaker and set off the leysplosion. And we don't got a traitor to fuck everything up this time.”

“After the army evacuates.” Elspeth makes sure she doesn't forget.

“Yeah, yeah. The wizards can take care of that.” You wave off. “We just gotta make this mountain crumble.” You don't mention that this would also open a nice wide path straight to the heart of Pactlands for an army to march through, but your smile doesn't exactly hide your thoughts.

“Um, guys?” Elspeth calls, “I think I found the Commonwealth forces.” She says as she lifts up a flap of flesh, revealing a pit of corpses dissolving in a green acid. Okay, ew.

“What do you think got them?” Chrysame asks.

“Uh, have you looked around?” You ask as you gesture with your sword to the fact you’re inside a fucking stomach-thing. “Think the answer's pretty obvious, duh.”

“O-oh, right. L-lord Minato.” You scoff as you roughly pat her head to show there's no harm meant.

“Do play nice, Ren. Not everyone can be as intelligent as you.” Esmeralda chides. Which you suppose is true– even if you did max out [Intelligence] last. What? It was your dump stat! Everyone’s gotta have one! And you had more important ones to grind, like [Charm], because let's be real. Who wouldn't power level [Charm] first? Helped you a bunch when you still had to deal with kingdom diplomacy and other garbage.

“Sorry, sorry!” You raise your hands in mock surrender– despite clearly still holding a sword. “Let's just move on. I got a good feeling we’re almost there.”

Like always, your gut feeling is correct. Because only a few rooms down, you come across a massive pile of rubble blocking the way to a room actively exploding, if the sounds and rumbles are to be believed. You always like it when there are environmental hazards during boss fights. “Everyone ready?” You ask and don't bother waiting for a response as your foot lifts and– *KAPOWS* the rubble away. “HALT EVILDOERS!” You should like a good Hero as the room inside stills.

Your eyes scan the mechanical monstrosity that is the caretaker as it panics at your mere presence, along with its underlings. [Charm] did give you quite the [Intimidating Aura], after all. Your quick assessment reveals two soldiers in boorish bone-armor, a robed skeleton, a shiny warform, and a demon and– Her…
Haha, your eyes widen and you almost double over from a brew of a thousand emotions crashing into you. HahaHAhaHaHaahaHahHahHa! Of course she’s here! Why wouldn't she be?! You should've killed her while you had the chance, before she could flee back to the Pact– why would she stop working with demons? Ha! You bet she convinced the Pact to accept them, the naive bastards! Hahahaha! Oh, man. You’re going to rip her to tiny little–

“NoooOoOoOoooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO–” Your thought process is shot as an awful, ear-bleeding scream comes from the demon as, in the caretaker’s panic, one of the soldiers is killed by accident. Not an uncommon scene when fighting incompetent bad guys. But it’s weird that there's any love lost. Eh, you know how demons can get with their “toys,” probably just something like that. No use worrying over it. You just have to make good use of the distraction given.

“Alright, girls! I'll be nice today and leave the boss to you. These minions ain't even gonna make me sweat!” As you say those words, your eyes never leave Seventeen. You don't even give her the satisfaction of singling her out– just the assurance that she's as good as dead.

“L-lord Minato, are you sure?” Chrysame asks, worried in her voice. “S-she’s–”

“Heh, don't sweat.” You smirk, despite your tunnel vision.

Esmeralda puts her hand on Chrysame’s shoulder. “Let's trust Ren, okay? We got a fight of our own to worry about.”

“R-right!” Chrysame nods.

“C’mon! Let's get in there already!!” Vesper yells and leaps into the chamber, bound over the grunt mobs (and Seventeen) to tear at the caretaker– the mechanical monstrosity yowls as the wolf girl rips her cords and shakes her off with frantic jolts. Though that doesn't deter your Vesper, it only makes her more excited. And with her initiative, the rest of the girls quickly step in line– magic-charged words leave the witch and priestess’ mouths, and Elspeth springs forth with graceful flips and powerful thrusts of her rapier. You bet if left to their own devices, they’d be able to wrap up this fight before you could finish the Goddess’ Creed. But while having to deal with minions too? That might complicate things, even if they aren't exactly getting in the way yet– strange, but they’re probably just in awe of your mighty aura.

“Villains!” You shout as the mob's attention all falls on you, “Know that I, Great Hero Ren Minato, will be your opponent today. Enjoy your last moments in this world– and may you have better luck in the next!” And with that said– before they can get a word in– you [Blink] twice and appear in front of them.

Everyone knows that when battling multiple opponents, the best way to make sure you don’t get overwhelmed is to take on the weakest opponents first- so you appear not even a foot away from the bone-armored soldier and deliver a flying kick to his helmet. He lets out a rather girly whine as he flies into the far wall, and the skeletons embedded in it grasp for his limb form. What a fucking loser. Why’d these demons even keep grunts like that this close to the caretaker? Must really be desperate.

>Saki Nishimura lost 1 Health

The corrupted warform swipes at you immediately, but all it takes to take that thing out is another [Blink]. You appear behind it, confusing the beast, grab its neck, and put maybe, let’s just say, 6.9% of your full power into throwing it at the hole in the wall where a helicopter peeks in. Needless to say, it goes down in a fiery blaze– only letting loose one volley of missiles that Vesper and Elspeth are more than capable of dodging as they bound from wall to caretaker to wall. Your feet rock a bit at the reverberation– and the radiant light at the corner of your eye– but think nothing of it.
>>
>>6471445
“Great Hero!” The robed skeleton says with his hands up– but the disadvantages of talking to your enemy have been drilled into your head enough times by Elspeth for you not to know better.

“Can it, nerd!” You mock as you [Blink] to his side, unsheath your sword, and decapitate his skull from his spine before chucking his head at a charging Seventeen. The absolute fury you see in her red eyes fills you with glee. But you’ll save her for last– better to taunt if you’ve dismantled all her “comrades” first. You really want to twist the knife into her cold, dead processor. So with the distraction of having to catch the head, you’re able to [Blink] past her– and you make sure to cast [Greater Speed Reinforcement] just in case she’s able to notice a pattern in your blinking even you’re not privy too. You’ve seen her fight before and know exactly how scary she can be, best not to take chances while the girls are occupied.

>Master Zekhya is out of commission!

But that leaves the demon left, who's actively running from you. Good, this’ll make things easier– “Lord Minato, watch out!” Chrysame cries as she fires a golden bow made of pure faith at the caretaker, knocking loose one of its great teeth. “That one’s mana is tied closely to Demon General Sitri’s! I sense she is a strong opponent! A necromancer!” Tsk, how predictable Seventeen would still be working with HER of all demons even after their alliance “disbanded.” You can’t say you recognize this one either, but you don’t make a habit of meeting demons twice– though you’re not sure how strong of an opponent she’s going to be while actively sobbing. But you should still try and end this quickly, so it’s a good thing there’s something right under the caretaker that should make it so this demonic whore has no chance of coming back.

You [Blink] in front of the crying beast, who would have run into you in her panic if it wasn’t for your free hand grabbing hold of her neck– and squeezing. She gasps and tries to claw at you, but your next [Blink] disorients her enough to render these attempts futile. “N-no, please!” She pleads, “I-i have to save him!” What a useless fucking lie; demons don’t “Save” anyone. You squeeze until she chokes so that her unpleasant voice doesn’t disturb you further.

>Lady Luvettel lost 1 Health!

Though you probably don’t even need to spend the effort, because with another [Blink] you're standing before the pit of acid. God, you love instant teleport– such a useful spell, not to mention when combined with your maxxed [Strength]. You really can do anything you set your mind to with base stats and low-level spells. “Any last words, Sitri’s Sludge?” You taunt as the demon’s not able to speak back. ‘Strong opponent?’ Yeah, right. All this bitch can do is weakly pound on your chest as she weeps. A disgrace even amongst demons. “Nah? Alright, Cya–”

A flash of light–

A sharp pain–

The demon’s gone–

And so is your arm.

https://youtu.be/AIaErAtEeVA?si=Rsl6pZousvGUjxS-

You drop your Legendary Sword into the acid so that you can grip your bleeding stump as you howl in pain– Then a fast-moving, large, and hard object crashes into your back, and Seventeen delivers a punch that could kill twenty lesser men. You’re only saved from falling in the pit yourself by Vesper reaching down from her perch on the caretaker, grabbing your shoulders and throwing you to Elspeth, who demonstrates miraculous aerial acrobatic ability to make sure you land straight.

W-what is– No, what? This isn’t supposed to– how is this-? Your eyes frantically search the room to find how the demon– No, not the demon, you realize as you spot HIM. Blonde hair, golden wings, and an aplomb demeanor as he holds the trembling demon in one arm and points a sword of pure radiance at you in the other. No. That’s not possible– it can’t be! Y-you killed him! He can’t be HERE!

The room stills, even the battle between your girls and the caretaker, as all look upon your new foe. You see Vesper sniff the air and tremble with fear– an emotion she seldom feels– as she points a claw at the man in horror. “I-it’s him!” She yelps, “I-it’s the DEMON LORD!”

No, there’s no way! It’s just not possible– it can’t be! This can’t be– it’s not happening! I can’t be happening! This isn’t how it’s supposed to go! You’re not supposed to be able to lose! To feel pain! To hurt! Fuck! Your arm hurts so bad! It makes you want to scream– Makes you want to scream that–
>>
>>6471448
“YOU'RE FUCKING DEAD!” The so-called Great Hero screams as he tries to draw his sword– he panics as he realizes it’s not there. That gives you enough time to analyze the situation. Four unfamiliar girls are fighting the caretaker, though the trembling dog one hops off its metallic carapace with its eyes trained solely on you. Seems like you’re going to have to fight her and the “Hero.” Your comrades, all save Seventeen, are out of commission, though you notice in the corner of the room Saki’s beginning to collect her bearings. The caretaker herself is having a tough time of it. You bet if nobody intervenes, she’s not going to last much longer before either the mage's spells blast her to pieces or the fighter slices through all her cables. And you? You feel more powerful than you’ve ever felt before– and that’s not just because you have a beautiful blue woman sobbing into your chest, more thankful than anything that you’re alive… Okay, maybe it’s mostly because of that– but not entirely!

“Otto.” Seventeen calls as she marches beside you. You stare. “I’m not sure if you can even hear me in that state, but please, try not to kill him.” She asks.

No promises.

As the “hero” struggles to reorient himself without his arm, you have the initiative to–

>Surround him with [Smoke] and [Conjure] a dozen [Swords]s to cut him down

>[Vaporize]-[Human], [Unbind]-[Flesh]

>[Conjure] a [Kitchen Sink] above his head and drop it on him

Really wanted to make a drawing for this scene, but it’s getting too late.

Hmmm. Seventeen asked us not to kill Minato (for some reason) but she never mentioned his harem. Simply killing them is a little tempting and would be a whole lot easier. But perhaps we could [Absorb] or [Expel] their [Energy] and/or [Mana] to defeat them without killing them?

Also, they think Otto's the demon lord. Maybe he was Samantha's previous vessel? Is that why she's such a bitch to Otto, because she's afraid she might be stuck in the head of some psychotic freak again?
>>

Possibly. I'm leaning toward getting them as high as fuck. Whatever we do, we need to neutralize both of them ASAP so we can neutralize his harem ASAP. The [Ascension] is on a hard time limit. If we take more than one turn with each, we'll likely be doomed.

When the hero goes for a predictable full-force frontal attack, you’re more than ready. Without a sword to swing, he leads with his fist– eye burning with rage, but you’re already gone by the time he [Blink]s to your position. With a great gust, your swings carry you back and up, leaving behind a great [Cloud] of [Pure]-[Marijuana]-[Smoke]. Your feathers smolder with it like a Halloween prop, but the effects cannot reach one who does not possess a mouth. However, the same cannot be said for the demon you’ve got in your arms.

“Weeeeee– Yeaha! Wooohooooo~!” Luvettel screams in between coughs and bouts of spewing vile gunk from her throat. An unsightly display most would be embarrassed to be seen in, but not Luvettel– she wears her emotions on her sleeves, and right now? She is having the time of her life.

“Not so fast!” You hear the ginger woman shout as she grabs herbs and ointments from her pouch and claps them together in her hands– As she opens the face of a massive frog-like creature juts towards you, jaws wide. But with a slash of your [Divine]-[Sword]-- laced with [Dispel]-- it fizzles into colorful particles. The witch begins to try to cast another spell, but one of the caretaker’s many legs smashes into her stomach and sends her flying.

As you soar in the air, the caretaker screams in challenge– her gaping maw screaming as blood and other foul things spew over the room and those unlucky enough not to be able to fly. But, with the [Wind]s at your command and [Smoking]-[Wings] of [That Good Stuff], you create a tornado, localized exactly where the blood vortex once was. It takes not even a second for the blonde one to complain about how much it STINKS and for caretaker to flail in a frenzy, though unlike before she’s much more harmful to herself– her sense of self-preservation gone in a chemical bliss. She whines and screams, but you don’t have time for that– there’s a feral animal gunning straight for you.

With a snarl, the dog-girl runs at you on all fours, leaping over Seventeen and launching herself into the air– claws first. Only to whine in confusion when she finds you not there, having successfully [Blink]ed away, like the Hero once did. She rams face-first into a ribcage, as the other skeletons melded to the wall struggle to keep her restrained in her dazed state.

“Down! Down!” Luvettel screams as she smacks your arm. Naturally, you let her off the wild ride because you’re not an asshole and you’re quite lucky for that. For she immediately [Expel]s the contents of her stomach– wires and all– onto the floor. You’re not sure if the high or the blink got to her, but you [Construct] an [Impenetrable]-[Metal]-[Barrier] around her just to be safe– Hey, there’s a door!

“Chrysame! Detox now!” The hero shouts as he finishes with his own splatterfest.
>>
>>6472543
“R-right!” The priest shouts, “O~ Great Mother, Patron of all. I beseech you to render your aid and remove–”

Too late! With one quick motion, you [Blink] to her position and [Absorb] as much [Mana] as possible. She screams in pain before falling to the ground… You, uh, roll her a bit with your foot but sigh in relief when you see she’s still breathing. But anyway, you feel even MORE powerful now. Hell yeah!

“...What… Are… You..?” The hero says, breathing hard as he focuses a great deal of his own [Mana] to reattach his reclaimed arm. He can barely stand, and the caretaker behind him isn’t in much better of a state. Though the same can’t be said for the blonde duelist who gracefully lands beside him.

“No.” She says as her fierce eyes sparkle beneath her fluttering hair, “I won’t allow this. Seventeen, what the hell have you unleashed?”

Seventeen, who has done little until now but wait, observe, and smile as you take out the opposite, drops into a controlled fighting stance. “Elspeth, there is so much I wish to say– so much that I could. But I will restrain myself and leave you with only this: He’s pretty cool once you get to know him.” At that, the two women charge.

And the Hero isn’t far behind, with a foaming mouth and face contorted with rage. “I’M GOING TO F-FUCKING KILL BOTH OF YOU!!!” He prattles as the caretaker's roar echoes throughout the chamber.

>Focus on taking out the Hero’s Party, they’re never going to outlive this embarrassing display

Looks like the plan to get them all stoned worked extremely well. I'm thinking we should focus on the Caretaker, since Seventeen is the only one there who isn't high and can fight at peak capacity, but the Capacity is likely to destroy herself if we can't subdue and then [Purify] her. How do you guys feel about casting [Mending] on Seventeen and then pirouetting to engage the Caretaker?

We don't know if Saki was hit by our Vril-infused nephilim spirit smoke and I'm pretty sure we still have that hollow elite warform standing around. We can heal Sev and Saki so it's three on two. I don't think there's anything stopping us from draining Minato's mana and using [Blink] to get these cretins away from us though.

As the heroes and Seventeen charge at one another, you take the chance to fly straight over them. Your hand grazes Sev as you pass, performing an in-flight [Mana]-[Mend] to heal her–

>Seventeen regained all health!

Before you appeal directly in front of Minato with a [Blink], startling him so much he [Blink]s away himself! A short bout of cat and mouse ensues as the two of you teleport around the area, as Seventeen and Elspeth clash. By chance, you eventually land right beside Saki, still disoriented, picking herself up– you, of course, [Expel] copious amounts of [Mana] to make sure she gets up big and strong.

>Saki Nishimura regained all health!

“Thanks,” The delinquent thanks as you and the hero continue your game of teleport tag.

[Blink], [Blink], [Blink]. For a moment you’re outside the facility, near the wreckage of the helicopter and your dead warform minion– the next you're on top of the caretaker who shutters in fear, and then you’re in between the two remaining fighters– “Otto, look out!” Seventeen cries as you duck under her punch, which lands square in Ren’s face– there’s a wet *CRACK* as Minato flies backward with blood gushing from his nose. Though, with him out of the picture– for now– you take the chance to pirouette and fly towards the caretaker before the blonde turns you into an angelic shishkebab.

The caretaker screams as you land on one of her centipede-like segments, but her behavior doesn’t change much. Seeing as she was already flailing and wailing quite well before. God, what a pathetic sight for a final boss– if nothing else, you should end this quickly, if only to save what was once an ancient noble warrior from any more embarrassment. You wonder just how much pleasure the Demon Lord took in reducing her to this… thing. You’re sure he did. Incredibly so, despite never meeting the guy.

”DiE!KiiLillL///_/-Mai–m–Rend,” She screams as many foul words as possible, but you pay them no mind. As of right now, you’re something on a whole nother level compared to her– far past the realm of mere mortality. If you had a mouth to breathe, you’d take a calming breath, but you don’t, so you merely mimic the motion. You rest your hand on the back of the caretaker’s head– your wings and hundreds of [Barriers] deflect every attempt to shake you off. You’re not exactly tired, but you can see your wings starting to fade into smoke at the tips. You have to do something about the caretaker now, or you’re not going to get another chance. The fate of this mission rests entirely on your shoulders, and what you’ve learned on your journey here. But when hasn’t it?

You only have one shot at Fixing/Destroying/Consuming this corrupt facility and saving the day. No pressure.

Oh shit, oh fuck. This is it, anons, this is really it. Do we want to take on the risk of [Purification], or seize control of the Caretaker? I feel like killing her is a non-starter either way we go about it, and seizing control of her outright may put us down a dangerous path, but [Purifying] her will be difficult.

Hmm... how do we feel about a straight [Purify] [Soul]? I feel like her corruption is more intense than that, but this is a good start. I think, maybe, we could-

>[Purify][Soul]+[Dispel][Torment]+[Calm][Mind]

That is, cleanse her [Soul], give her relief from her agony, and enable her to think clearly. I think a more complex [Purification] of her [Metal] and [Gore] might help in the long-run, but we are strapped for time and I fear that something too intricate could see Otto fumble right at the finish line. What do you anons think?
>>

Slapping a [Permanence] rune on everything would be useful, especially if we don't feel safe just [Cleansing] all of the kilometers of [Rust] and [Blood], but that strikes me as roughly equivalent to the [Divine] rune.

I mentioned that it probably wouldn't work since warforms were never human to begin with, but that assumes "humanity" is an intrinsic quality found only in humans and is both absent in and unattainable by non-humans. The Widow fell in love, something that had apparently previously been believed to be impossible, so warforms presumably CAN become more "human". This also kind of fits with what Zekhya said in his little hypothetical, the body is largely irrelevant to the equation but a soul left to rot and fester loses the spark (humanity) that makes a person a person, even if the soul itself persists.

In short, maybe we should [Purify] her [Humanity] instead of her [Soul].
>>
>>6473007
You raise a very interesting point. The presence of [Humanity] in the inhuman has been a recurring theme that we've stumbled onto. We saw [Humanity] in the hulking berserker construct, [Humanity] in the cave goblins, [Humanity] in a demon, and none of that required us to go digging in their [Souls] to dredge it out. It was always there, just waiting to be found by a moment of kindness. That may be what the Caretaker needs more than anything else. A remainder of the [Humanity] she's buried and tried in vain to forget, and a presence to support her through the realization of what she's done.

I think you're right, and [Humanity] is what needs to come first. But how should we go about doing this?
>>
Apologies, on account of a friends birthday the update is going to be pushed to tomorrow.
>>
>>6473247
Not sure. Maybe [Calm] [Suffering] + [Purify] [Humanity] + [Mend] [Soul]?
First, we try to ease the Widow's grief and rage like the other anon suggested. However, [Calm]-[Mind] seems to just make you emotionally numb to the point that you can ignore physical pain which might just cause more issues for us, so we probably shouldn't use that on her.
Then we attempt to actually unfuck and restore her [Humanity].
And finally, we patch up whatever metaphysical damage might have been done to her [Soul] as a whole.
That's the best I can come up with. I have no clue if it'll work.

And thinking about it a bit more, I wonder if [Purify] [Soul] would actually erase whatever [Humanity] she has left. Would [Humanity] count as an "impurity" of the soul? Especially in a machine.

Really enjoyed reading the discussion here :)

The caretaker rocks underneath as she desperately tries to shake you off. Sucks for her that you’re literally goated. Her tangled, dry hair parts for your fingers as you let your [Core] condense and allow your [Radiant]-[Mana] to freely flow through your body like you were a normal person– in this world– who has an open magikatory system. Still, your magic recoils and sparks as it connects to the [Corrupt]-[Mana] of the caretaker, but you do not faint nor falter– you persist. In fact, you [Dominate]... Just how much fucking power are you taking from Samantha?

Too Much

Fetid words and demonic curses spill from the caretaker's mouths but your ears tune them out just as they shut out the world around you. Your vision goes dark, and you clear your head. Your confident Seventeen’s going to give you just enough time– So there’s no need for anxiety. Though you doubt you’d be able to think so clearly if your senses weren’t quite literally [Divine]. With your best effort, you’re able to connect to the Caretaker– to the Widow– to Nyx. As tendrils of both your [Pure]-[&]-[Polluted]-[Mana]s interlock, you use your [Divine]-[Power] to [Calm]-[Suffering] and [Dispel]-[Torment]... You won't lie, the process hurts– hurts like a motherfucker– To connect with her pain, both that forced onto her and that self-inflicted– to intertwine yourself with a colossal being miles long and choked-full of [Rust]-[&]-[Rotten]-[Flesh]. But you can't let that stop you– not here at the finish line. Not when you have to be a [Hero], and not when you have the power of an [Angel]. You have to win; you just gotta!

But then what are you supposed to do? You’re pretty certain that if you were to just [Purify] her, you’d do nothing but fry her circuits and scorch her flesh. Perhaps that would be mercy, but that can't be how this ends. You– you need to focus your attempt. You need to find something to bring her back, something that can undo the [Corruption]-[Festering] inside her. But what? It's not like you know her; all she's ever done is scream and fuck with you since you've entered this darn place. Wait a minute, no. That’s not entirely right– you got Seventeen to talk about her a bit, didn't you? Something about falling in love when it wasn't thought physically possible? But why not? Because she's a robot? A weird fantasy robot, you guess, but a robot all the same. But like– if you were back on Earth, that'd make sense. You doubt Grok is going to achieve sentience anytime soon, but this isn’t Earth. Here the rules don’t have to make sense, and dammit, you’ll be damned if you think of Seventeen as just some robot. Like sure, she’s cagey, hard-headed, one-track, a bit simple-minded, and altogether a bit of a dick, but you've never once doubted that under her thick metal plating there's a [Human]-[Soul] down there… Well, maybe not exactly [Human], but like– you get the point. Okay?
>>
>>6473575
Alright, let’s be specific now. Your nails scratch into Nyx’s scalp as you desperately search for her hidden [Humanity]. She must have it. After all, there's plenty of people here with it; From giant ogres to cave goblins– Hell, you even found some in a literal Demon! A-and while some of the warforms in here behaved more like [Beast]s than men, you know for a fact that this particular [Soul] had some! Though you wonder why it was ever thought a warform couldn’t fall in love, just who made these guys? A *Zap* travels through your body as foreign memories flash through your mind, you see a field of flowers succumbing to a rain of fire. You see an army of blue-skinned warriors whipping together millions of miserable slaves. You see a legion of angels assembling battlemechs and other ‘cool-as-fuck’ armaments to stave off the horde. You see fields of pitiable creatures strewn up on jagged spikes with barbed wire amidst an Eternal Night where not even the dead were allowed to rest. And… and you see love blossom between a magical machine and a soldier fighting with the angels. It, um… Gets pretty graphic from there– kinda like a “dead wife montage” but with a dude. There’s a lot of him flipping demons off and making absurd faces.

The caretaker tumbles into silence as she replays the memories the same as you– you hope. You really hope it’s not giving her the same montage but about your life– that’d be a total breach of privacy! Fuck, no time to linger on it! Your body lurches as your wings begin to fade. You’ve hauled her humanity– her ancient memories– to the surface, and from there her [Soul] is not hard to find. And as Master Zekhya said, the soul of a corpse is a sad and horrible thing. Wracked with rotting cavities and purulent wounds, it shivers at you extend a piece of your own to grab onto, or maybe Samantha’s? You’re not really sure, but… Nyx is still a robot, right? She’s not exactly human, even if she has something intrinsic to them inside her– not talking about the montage– and you were able to [Mend] Seventeen pretty well. Sure, her [Soul] might not be physical, but you can repair [Construct]s with [Mend], so why shouldn’t you be able to [Repair]-[Her]-[Soul]? That sounds like a good enough argument to you!
>>
>>6473576
Your body burns and your radiant light flickers as you pour runes of [Purity] inside the warform– until the power of the facility begins to quiver! The caretaker lets out a final mournful wail as she stutters and stills. Immediately, Seventeen is shouting at you– snapping you out of your inner world. “Otto, hook me into the machine, quick!” She commands as she backbends under the duelists' twirling dropkick– and shoots forward at tremendous speeds to deliver an atomic headbutt to the Great Hero. He says something like: “That’s it! Playtime’s over!” But it’s dumb and lame, and you’re too busy using the last of your [Divine]-[Power] to do a triple aerial backflip into grounded somersault into cartwheel into REALLY Cool Pose to care. And when you land, you feel your body begin to collapse as your face morphs back to normal and you gulp for air.

But before you can collapse, the caretaker’s maw chokes and coughs as a great sac of wires and bloody [Membrane] sags down like a wad of [Phlegm]. Over the past week you’ve seen so many horrible, disgusting sights you’re practically numb, but for some reason this transfixes you. But maybe that’s just because when it pops, a gorgeous woman falls from her corrupt exuvia. A weary grin spreads across your face as your exhausted body beams with looney excitement. There’s nothing to hook Seventeen to! Y-you fucking WON!!! YEAH BABY, ALRIGHT!!! #SWEET #AWESOMESAUCE #YOLO LMFAOOOOOOO!!!!

You’re then unceremoniously thrown across the room and land face-first in a pool of gore. As you cough up red mush and shattered bones, a pair of boots [Blink] in front of your eyes– and a gloved hand roughly hoists you in front of Ren Minato’s face. You don’t think you’ve ever seen someone look so mad at you, or have you smelt breath so bad. “I don’t know who the HELL you think you are, but you’re fuckin’ DEAD, ya hear?! Hey, are you listening to me?!”

Not really, if you’re being honest, you’re too focused on the girl in the center of the room slowly stirring. You fucking did it, man. Haha… hahahahahAhAHAhahAHahahAhHHAHAHAHA! You’re the fucking BEST!

“HEY! Pay attention to me!” The Great Hero roughly shakes you, but you’re too numb– too lopey, and probably too high to fucking care. You feel like you’re on the verge of passing out, and the fact that Seventeen can’t reach you doesn’t disturb you one bit. You still got one burst of action left before burnout. You can feel it.

You got one shot to defeat the Great Hero and his remaining lackey, and the power of a Saint to do so.

“C’mon, say something!” The Hero sprays, not says, as he throttles you around. You really wish your angelic ascension hadn't done away with your helmet for hype moments and aura– cuz damn, his breath is Bad.

“...” You mouth as air escapes your throat.

“What was that?!”

“C-closer,” you whisper, and while the Hero isn't happy about it, he does lean in. You got his full attention, and really that makes what’s about to happen entirely his fault.

“What?” he growls.

“Why does your breath smell so bad?” He growls as his eyes bore into yours with pure rage– but that gives you just enough time to bring your foot up and– *BLAM* smash it right into his nards!! A Saintly Slam right into his nethers so hard his great-great grandkids are gonna feel it! You’d [Absorb]-[Mana] through the contact, but then you might be accused of [Drain]ing his [Ball]s, and you really don't want to have to answer for that!

“!!!” The hero's eyes widen as his mouth turns from a snarl into a single pursed point. His shaking hand slowly lets go of you as it lowers to cup his family jewels as tears swell in his eyes. “N-not. C-cool.” He squeaks as he falls over– stiff as a stiffy, if you want to be topical about it. But wait, there's more! A single kick, no matter how much supernatural force you funneled into it, isn't enough to burn all the fuel you have left. You got just enough for three more [Blink]s! One to take you to Saki, another to have Saki take your place in front of the crying Hero, and a third to take you a safe distance away from Blast Zone of whatever the fuck is going to happen between them!

Saki lurches for a bit from the sudden teleportation but composes herself when she sees you from the corner of her eye with a big thumbs up and smile. Yeah, she’s got this! She whips some of the dust from her shoulders but quickly stops when she notices all she's doing is smearing foul liquids on herself, takes a deep breath, and removes her helmet. Her scraggly blonde hair falls over her face and back as her tired, yet mirthful, eyes look over the fallen hero. And she extends a hand down to help him up. “Even after all these years, you still need my help up after a bad fight. Funny how some things don't change, eh?” She smiles as the Hero takes her hand and hoists himself up.

Minato shakes off any further help but gives a few thankful nods as he catches his breath. When he looks up, he gives Saki’s greasy and zip-covered face a hard look before asking. “Who are you?”
>>
>>6474069
All the joy and other complex emotions on Saki’s face at seeing her old friend immediately fades. She visibly goes through all seven stages of grief, twenty-one stages of wrath, and forty-two stages of despair, by the end of which she’s intimately familiar with life, the universe, and everything, which means her expression is like that of a rabid animal and her leg flies up with more power than you could ever hope to muster as it careens straight towards the hero's knackers–

*BLAM*

And as the hero falls you can't help yourself from cackling as darkness takes you as well

You slouch in the uncomfortable wooden seat of the library as the computer screen shows nothing. Your phone buzzes in your pocket, but you resist the urge to pull it out. You’re not quite ready to report to the group chat about your failure– and you don't want to have to look at Otto’s offline status again. He’s just missed his first rent payment, and you can do without the mental anguish his ‘missing’ status gives you. You've known the bastard since you were kids. The least he could have done is not get whisked away to an isekai world without you! Dammit… he’s probably got a harem of girls drooling all over him already and (You) still have to pay taxes!

“Um, Richard?” The librarian calls to you, and you realize you have quite the emotional expression on your face. You wipe it away immediately and turn to her.

“Yes?” You ask.

“Ah, it's just that we're going to be closing soon. I'm sorry, I know you’re looking for something important for your friend, but, uh–”

“Can you just let me look one last time? I promise I'll be quick.”

“I’m not sure you’re going to find something here if you have already, but I'll let you stay until I have to lock up. Just shut down the computer when you're done”

You press the power button. “Thank you, Margaret. I'll be quick, promise.”

“J-just… let me know if you find anything. We're all praying for Otto, too.”

“Thank you.” You say as the woman departs. You’re surprised she's still working here; she was old back when you and the gang were kids, and now even more so. Just talking to her brings back memories of when you all were kids and would hang out at the Mildred Public Library after school. It was a pretty fun haunt to walk to during a half day, not really anything special in hindsight, but for a group of suburb kids? It was downright kino.

You’re not exactly sure why you came back here. Memories, maybe? You and Otto used to help out here to reach the volunteer hours needed to graduate high school, but you’re not exactly sure it'll hold any answers about what exactly a “Fantasy Quest” is, though it's not like any other leads were much help. You don't even want to mention the parts of the internet Daniel went on during his search.

But alas, the few rows of fantasy books are the same as ever. A few classics here, a local author there, and a hundred or so books you've never heard of. But, none of them have the specific name “Fantasy Quest: 7” so it's all around a bust– *Thud* you spin around as something hits the floor, and see a book lying on the ground. Strange, seeing as there's no one around– Margaret should be upstairs in her office right now, and you check the next few aisles and don't see a soul. There's not even a book missing from the shelves.
>>
>>6474073
“What the fuck?” You whisper as you pick it up and check the cover. “Fantasy Quest: 23,” it reads, with the subtitle “Aftermath.” What the fuck?

You turn it over a few times, but there's nothing discerning about the cover. Just a poorly drawn angel fighting off some generic-looking dude. This is– man, what the Fuck? You can't you weren't asking for it, but like, this is weird– right?

The video begins with the underside of the victim’s face before he places the camera on a bookshelf. The victim holds a book titled Fantasy Quest 23: Aftermath, in front of the camera. The cover appears poorly drawn. The victim grips the book firmly and mentions “letting his friends know” as he reaches for his phone, then relents and returns to showcasing the book. The book appears to have no author or other markings on the front or back, only a double-page spread of what appears to be a floating island with dark castles on top. The victim then begins to go on a tangent about “Isekai Anime” and makes several references to the missing person “Otto Griggs...” (Note: Victim and Otto are members of the same household)

>Analysis

The video was recovered from Richard Knollwood’s personal phone after being given to the town’s police office by Margaret Taylor. Given Richard’s previous testimony to the BPD about Otto Griggs disappearance, both of these cases have been submitted. Richard Knollwood was declared missing 24 hours later, and the videos were submitted to the ongoing Otto Griggs case. China’s Ministry of State Security quickly picked up the case and requested full access to relevant files. They have refused to comment further. Detective Thurston also said he’s seen increasing discussion online about spontaneous disappearances, though the videos provided were likely made with AI imagery.

An elaborate hoax would be believable if it weren’t for China’s aggressive practices in obtaining these files. I got five bump emails from them before lunch! - Detective Thurston

A brisk chill carrying the familiar scent of sea salt makes you shiver as you open your eyes, revealing you were not where you were mere seconds ago. Coastal cliffs stretch far into the horizon, while wildflower-covered hills dot the landscape. The call of seagulls is sung against the roar of wyverns as they both dance along the shore of a massive island floating in the sky– wait, what?

Your eyes widen; they’d even fly out of your head if your glasses didn't keep them in! A floating island, a real motherfucking floating island! That shouldn’t be possible, but look right over there, motherfucker! It is! Haha, a giggle escapes from your throat. You did it! You damn well did it! You got yourself isekai’d! Hell yeah! Ultimate magic power and a truckload of beautiful women are only a hat's toss away now! You bet you’re gonna be Loaded by the time Episode Two airs! Hahaha!

“It is heartening that it is as excited about the summoning as I,” a cold, deep voice says from behind.

“!!” You spin around and see an animated skeleton talking to a wad of flying blue fire– your gut reaction makes you stumble back, and the cliff crack underneath. But before you can fall, the skeleton extends a bony hand and pulls you back.

“Be not afraid, otherworlder.” The skeleton lets you go and waves his hand disarmingly. ‘I have no intention of doing you harm, especially not after expending the resources necessary to perform this rite. As of right now, your life is far, far too valuable to experiment on.”

“I, um–”

“Oh, come now. Where is that enthusiasm you had?” you shuffle kinda awkwardly, “Pah, working with mortals is always such a toil. Fine then, allow me to introduce myself properly if that will ease you. I am Master Zekhya of the Commonwealth– a republic that I hope you will one day learn to call home, a country in desperate need of a Hero.” He really stresses that last word. Sounds like a job for you! “I understand you’re not quite getting it, are you? I assure you that you will, in due time. Now, your name?”

“Uh, right, it’s–” You’re totally not giving out your real name like a loser. You’re gonna think of something cool. “My name is–

>Xavier the Bloodblade
>Biggus Dickus
>The Master of Shadows
>[write-in]

“I’m sure.” The skeleton deadpans. Though it’s not like he has many other expressions. “Pardon my curiosity, I would also like to ask a question of my own if that would be okay?” You nod. “Are you perhaps acquainted with a Ren Minato, Saki Nishimura, or one Otto Griggs?”

Wait, yo. “Wait, yo. You know Otto? About yay high, long hair, looks sad all the time?” You look around, but there’s no one else here. “Where’s he at, dog?”
>>
>>6474981
“So you do! Quite splendid indeed!” The skeleton gives a little clap as the blue wispy thing shutters. “But perhaps I should not say I exactly ‘know him’ more than his newfound reputation precedes him. He is, after all, building quite the large one, perhaps even larger than the Great Hero. Seeing as there’s talk that he’s the Demon Lord reincarnated once again. Would you happen to know anything about his power?”

“His power? Nah, no way. More importantly though, does he have a harem of hot babes around him? Do you know that?” You have to stay focused on what's really important here. You can't get off track talking about the small stuff.

The skeleton taps a finger to his chin. “Indeed, last I recall, all his living companions were female, yes.”

You press a finger to your glasses and smirk. Seems he’s got the right idea. You’ll have to ask him about it later. And the precedent he set is good. Really good. If even Otto can score, mind you, someone whose last relationship exploded when they finally met at a con after months of e-dating, think of what that will mean for (You)?!

Look out world: The Dick is coming!

“What are you doing?” The skeleton points to your pose, legs spread shoulder-width, your hips movin’, and a finger pointed towards the dreary sky.

“I'm aurafarming. Obviously.”

“Please, stop that. It’s profane.”

You awake from a dreamless sleep, only to find that– AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeeverything hurts. Ow, Jesus, man. Feels like your body's a glass statue that was unceremoniously smashed to bits, thrown into the ocean, and slowly eroded down after hundreds of years. You even have to methodically move everything to make it’s all attached– and thank god it is– but through the process you slowly realize that you might have picked up something a little extra. Something warm, clingy, and rather blue. Lady Luvettel sleeps peacefully in her sleep, clutching your side so tightly it seems she’s scared you’d disappear if she let go.

Maybe it’s best to let her get some rest while you try to figure out where you are. Because you’re sure as hell a comfortable bed is not a part of the factory. Not unless Nyx made some insane changes while you were out… You won, right? Last you saw was Saki delivering a verbal and physical tirade onto fallen Hero. That means you won, right? You really hope you’re not in some prison cell right now. But then why would Luvettel be here?

The room is dark, and when you try to cast a small bit of [Light], you don’t see much anyway. You can see a curtain on the other side of the deeply gray room along with a door on the next wall over. There's a small end table by the bed but nothing on it, and that's kinda it. The room is spartan to the bones– Maybe the Blacksteel Legion picked you up? That Centurion guy seemed decent enough, so that probably wouldn’t be too bad.

You should still probably try to figure out where you are, just to be safe.
