Ten years ago King Aiden Perenolde betrayed the Alliance and sided with the Horde of Orgrim Doomhammer. Nine years ago Prince Alric Perenolde, the second heir of Alterac was sent into exile for his own protection. This exile turned permanent and Captain Normand Garside, your guardian for the past nine years made sure that you were safe and learned the useful skills that would help you in the future. Now you are ready to carry the responsibility and unite the scattered Alteraci people and reclaim the lands that were once the Kingdom of Alterac. The revelation of Sir Gravis being a Syndicate agent was something you couldn’t have predicted, but when the person telling you this was your own sister Beve Perenolde, you couldn’t deny it. And when Lady Nalice managed to recover documents most likely confirming it, you were only but sure your sister had told you the truth. With that knowledge in mind you set forth and visited both Durnholde Keep and Hillsbrad Fields to secure trade and security with both of them. While Lord Blackmoore had chosen an apt time to go cold turkey and stop drinking, you succeeded in getting what you wanted, Durnholde joining the Darrowmere League. In addition you gained an old lethargic orc to train your men in how to fight against his kin.But as you travelled, you met with Kel’Thuzad, the excommunicated Archmage from Dalaran. He delivered a warning and a gift in the location of his hideout. That was for you to loot, that is if you are going to do it?Welcome to Alterac Resurgent Quest!…Twitter: https://twitter.com/MedivhQM/qst/ Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Alterac%20Resurgent%20QuestPrince Alric Stats: https://pastebin.com/rysxdRsvQuest Mechanisms: https://pastebin.com/CyD88qqfCharacter List: https://pastebin.com/FkYd6wkJSide Character Stats: https://pastebin.com/aRfyksUG
>>6467397The rain continued to wash the countryside when you woke up.Your foul mood from last night was still there as you pulled yourself out of the bed and put on a fresh set of clothes, your breeches and boots. Heading downstairs where the breakfast of porridge, bread and apple slices was already ready, you ate it and prepared to go outside.“Going somewhere in this weather?” Normand Garside asked.“I have things to do.” You replied as you threw your brown leather jacket on and went for the coat.“In this weather?” Normand asked again.“I am going to meet with Lady Nalice.” You said while straightening your collar. “She has something for me regarding our orc.”That was a lie, but a lie that should work with Normand.“You know I don’t like that orc.” He said.“You keep saying that.” You replied as you straightened your chaperon. “I’ll be out for a while.”The rain continued as you stepped out. The Royal Foot Guard standing guard had smartly moved underneath the porch to stay away from the rain as he greeted you. Your steps found water and mud, hands in pockets you made your way past the stables and some of the houses. There was no one out there outside of couple guards forced to stay in their posts, but thankfully outside the rain.Dawnholme seemed empty, no one was out at the sparring yards next to the barracks. The tents housing some of the newcomers had lights inside of them, but no one dared to go outside. Where the Stonemason’s had already piled the dirt for the walls to be built, you found no one there working with shovels or pickaxes. The rain had pushed everyone away.Knocking on the door of Lady Nalice’s house beyond the Dawnholme’s boundaries, you opened the door and stepped inside.“Prince Alric.” Nalice greeted you.“Lady Nalice.” You greeted your lover back as she enjoyed the honorifics.“I expected to see you yesterday.” She said.“Apologies, I was in a foul mood.” You replied. “I did not want to have you suffer my muddled mind.”“Foul mood?”“Just everything, everything and more.” You said and shrugged as you took off your coat.Lady Nalice Black-Prestor stood in front of the hearth of her house, she was wearing her robes of black and purple and she seemed to have done her black hair, there was a little of waviness on them.“You have done your hair?” You asked.“I have. Thank you for noticing it Prince Alric.” She said and smiled. “Tea?”“I can’t say no to tea in this weather.” You replied.Nalice started to prepare the kettle while you took a seat and your foul mood returned. You were going to be talking about things that will annoy you a lot, but at least you would have some tea this time, but where to start?1/1

>>6467399>Kel’Thuzad and his appearance
>>6467399>Kel’Thuzad and his appearanceI kind of want to get straight into the Gravis business, but this is perhaps more pressing.I wonder if theres anything we, or more likely Nalice could do for the poor fellow Boyd. He sure burns himself a lot, maybe we can bond over burning ourselves as well. Could probably ask him for pyromancy tips.Draconic glyphs on his burned flesh, perhaps in patterns that disguise it. Sewn into the interior of clothes or his bandages. Invisible ink tattoo lol, tell him the ink has alchemical properties that could help prevent him from getting burned...Could ask the actual master alchemist if that last one could be done.Maybe whatever notes Kel'Thuzad left in his hideout might include something, or Bert if he inherited any of that healing knowledge. Radical fun solution, expose him to enough magic to trigger a mutation and hope its a good one. Though maybe Nalice could try to cause a targeted mutation?
>>6467399>>Kel’Thuzad and his appearance
“Normand didn’t tell me anything about the orc causing any issues during the travel.” You said to her.“No, it barely moved.” Nalice replied as the kettle was neatly hanging above the fire.“Good, your return journey went without any issues then?” You said.“Prince Alric, I feel like you are leading me with questions?” She asked and went to prepare the cups and the tea itself. “Did something happen?”“Yes, you are right about the leading question. Something did happen.” You said and took off your glasses and pinched the bridge of your nose. “Later that night after we continued west, we bumped into Kel’Thuzad.”Nalice paused and slowly turned to look at you.“I am very glad you are still alive.” She said very matter of factly.“So am I, he tried to get into our heads and… I was so close to just cutting off his head in return.” You told her.“What was he doing there?” She asked.“Travelling, probably coming from a hideout of his. He was cryptic about everything, but cooler heads prevailed and we ended up talking a bit.” You told her.“What did he tell you?” She practically demanded.“It is better if I go throught everything.” You said to her.And so you did as the kettle heated up. You went through how you bumped into him, how you had felt during it, how Tissandra had reacted, the talks that followed, things Kel’Thuzad had told you and all the details inbetween.“I am not interested in the witch.” Nalice said to you as the water started to boil. “But I am glad she could handle herself.”“It was good that I hired her, maybe without her I would have acted without concern for her.” You said to Nalice as she went to pour the hot water into a pot.“And after all that you dared to ask for his spellbook.” Nalice said and gave you an approving look. “Prince Alric, you are very brave.”“I had to get something out of the encounter.” You replied. “But a hideout? Sounds like danger.”“Danger can be managed.” She said and gave you a sly smile. “Any plans?”“Take a few people I trust and go see what it is about?” You said and shrugged. “I mean I have the reputation of hitting things with a sword until they go away, what can Kel’Thuzad’s hideout have inside that can endure getting hit by a sword?”Nalice laughed a bit as she added the tea into the pot.“Always so straightforward.” She said. “But going there should be done fast and with haste, because if I were him, I would have failsaves and other ways of mitigating unwanted intruders approaching the place.”“I agree, but I can’t immediately.” You said back.“Of course, you are waiting for Lady Malevus?” Nalice asked as she poured the tea into cups. “Am I correct?”“Her or…” You started.“Dalaran is doing enough by chasing Kel’Thuzad, you do not need to inform Prince Kael’thas Sunstrider.” Nalice said and brought the cup to you while taking her own seat. “They would just have everything destroyed while giving you just a warm handshake.”1/2
>>6467891Nalice did not like Dalaran had she made it very clear and apparent from time to time.“I will keep that in mind.” You replied and took the cup. “It smells good.”“Madam Martin had collected the herbs, she was kind enough to give me some.” Nalice said and smiled slightly. “But on our rogue Archmage, I do not know what he is talking about or what he is planning on doing. But it cannot be anything good, there are many ways a mage of his calibre can err and take a wrong turn, or be influenced by something. I do not believe this will be the last time we hear of him.”“I think so too, by all accounts he was a very strong Archmage.” You replied.“I concur.” Nalice said back. “But act with haste, whatever could be recovered from the hideout could be a boon to us. To you and to me.”Choose one:>Sir Gravis and his Syndicate background>The lethargic orc who is right now in one of the cells

Taking a sip of the tea, you knew what was to come next.“It doesn’t just smell good, it tastes good.” You said.“Thank you Prince Alric.” Nalice said. “I made it for you.”“What else to expect from my little dragon.” You said and this time smiled before continuing. “But… Sir Gravis, you know why I am here.”Nalice nodded and took out several pieces of paper she had prepared and planted next to her. The tea and the talk had been preparation for this, and the more you were prepared for this, the more you knew what was to come.“He is a traitor.” Nalice said without emotions in her voice and pushed the papers to you.You took them and forgot to breathe for a second. The papers were gibberish, just random letters after another. You spoke after you released your breath.“Cipher?” You asked.“All words are backwards and letters are ten letters ahead of them.” Nalice told you. “Simple, but effective.”“Lady Nalice, you copied all of this?”“I did, it is not beyond my skills.” She said. “Copied as they were.”There was more than one paper that she had copied and now presented to you.“Here Prince Alric, the translations.” She said and handed another set of papers to you.And you read them. They started with your troop numbers, how many footmen or archers you had. If you had any specialists or people worth noting. Your officers were all named, those worth extra mention had them with Cromwell and Rover Brothers being especially mentioned. Patrol routes, sizes of the patrols, deployments and training. Your mages, what were their specialties. There were details of your economy, where things are heading, the Oil Rig, Darrowmere League. Events of Stormwind City, events before that and since then. There were details about you and Malevus, you and your family, you and Tari and little Faelyn all innocent to all of this. Gravis had been thorough, so bloody fucking thorough that…“Fucking traitor!” You shouted out and stood up. “I will kill him! I will fucking kill him!”Running your fingers through your hair you paced around the room as you felt the fire starting to rumble within you. The scorching hot inferno spread across you as you struggled to keep it together within you, but you felt like you were losing this battle. The nagging feeling within you spread and you could feel the heat from your fingertips to your toes. Your hand searched for the hilt of your sword and you could just feel it within you.You wanted to deal with this, once and for all!Choose one:>Sir Gravis must pay, and he must pay right now. >>6467935>>You must get your feelings under control. You cannot allow the fire to take control over you.
>>6467935>You must get your feelings under control. You cannot allow the fire to take control over you.Duel is good, just not when hes in the mood to kill him. Dang that IS thorough. I'm sure Alric can work through it. If that includes troop numbers of our allies too. VanCleef's army that will be in Dawnholme later. The 100 mercs paid for by Katrana set for Durnholde. The potential men in the merc camp. The Dark Irons. We have the town walls and gate going up to help against agents, and we doubled the guards. Mages working on the anti-magic wards against teleporting assassins too. Durnholde men we might put to patrols. Once Stonedon's issue is resolved with that new manor they will take up patrols which should change things up.
>>6467935>You must get your feelings under control. You cannot allow the fire to take control over you.Rushing in now will only bite us in the ass. This is a lot worse then I thought it would be; this is a level of betrayal that we can't be "kind prince Alric" about, Gravis needs to be hanged.
>>6467935>>You must get your feelings under control. You cannot allow the fire to take control over you.Gravis, whyyyyy don't you make me want to chop your head off right now tff. Ffsake, you were our bro....
Just to get some thoughts down I don't think hanging is the solution, especially not when his marriage to Imswit's daughter is part of our secret vassalage setup and all the other Durnholders that like us rally around her. Imagine it "Oh we almost had a marriage to a syndicate agent traitor you put forward" I don't think it makes a good showing that countless military and personal secrets were exposed while we are trying to build our League. But thats just politics wise. For Alric personally if an actual shameless syndicate assassin that tried to kill him and others like Pai gets a break I think after all those seasons of bro-service we can make an offer. Alric should consider the nature of his personal virtue, his belief in second chances. Redemption. Forgiveness. Is it something he can only offer when its easy, I don't think so. Can Gravis actually make up for it? Maybe in the next point. Finally on the intelligence front this is a critically important opportunity for Nalice and Eligius. Plenty of opportunity to catch others and learn new info from their messages. We have a high-confidence intelligence asset like Gravis, anything false he feeds them in future they will almost certainly believe. Its hard to overstate how valuable that is. Also I suppose If they ever believe Gravis doublecrossed them then EVERYTHING he ever told them becomes suspect and they have to throw it out, reconfirm it, or risk being duped. The Syndicate is quite paranoid after all.
>>6467935>Nalice must have done this with a reason, let her help you.Seems like option 2 and 3 are non-exclusive, but surely QM has plans. Then plans within plans. But it's time to show Gravis the long arm of Alterac government.

>17, Failure!“All the trust, everything we did together!” You shouted out. “And he was to throw it all out?”The fires within you burned as you knew you needed to control them. They raged and trashed, a whirlwind of flames circling in your stomach as you were forced to turn away from Nalice.“He is the leader of my bodyguards for fuck sake!” You said.“Prince Alric.” Nalice started, but you interrupted her.“Lady Nalice. I am forever thankful for you having uncovered what needed to be known.” You said to her and struggled within you. “The papers… what of the originals?”“I let them go.” She said matter of factly.“What!?” You shouted out. “But why?”“A common spy could figure out your troop numbers and patrols, those are not secrets and can be predicted.” She told you and continued. “And the rest, they can be figured out by people like your big sister.”“You let them go!”“Prince Alric, if those papers weren't delivered, they would have known Sir Gravis was compromised either as a spy or as an agent.” She told you and continued after sipping her tea. “Now we have the initiative and ability to act first, be whatever our goals are. Either killing him, just watching him or perhaps trying to turn him.”The way she spoke, her tone seeped with regal professionalism. This was her job after all, being a spymaster first for Katrana Prestor and now as an advisor for you.“If I had taken those papers, Syndicate would have realised it and there is a likelihood of Sir Gravis being informed of it and then he would have acted.” She told you and continued. “We do not need to speculate what he would do, but preventing such actions, it would be more than difficult.”This made your efforts to control the fires within you near futile as your mind raced to possibilities. What could his tasks be? They can't be just spying on you, maybe he would try to kill you, no… for most damage, he would harm your family. That must be it.“Even if it is very unfortunate we had to let those papers go, I know you are now thinking of the alternatives…” Nalice started.“Stop.” You ordered. “Just stop. You are right, but I don't want to think about this…”You walked to the coat hanger and took your coat.“Thank you for the tea.” You said to her. “It was delicious, but I need to go for a walk.”You had barely tasted it, but you had no stomach for it. No mood and not because of Nalice, you knew she had made the right decision. You just couldn't sit still.“Do not catch a cold.” Nalice said to you as you opened the door.Stepping out, the rain immediately caught you and you pulled the hood over your head, but not before the rain had washed your face.1/3
>>6469064The fire within you hadn't calmed down, but it kept you warm and your limbs fresh as the numbness of cold and rain was kept away.Hands in your pockets you slowly strolled through Dawnholme half-aimlessly, observing the finished houses and projects still covered in scaffoldings. The Stonemasons had done tremendous work and their skills… you saw a pair of guards and their dark cloaks and armours made you think of Gravis. But it wasn't him there, he was probably at home or at the barracks doing his duties. Soon he would be officially betrothed to Hilde Imswit and that would seal the alliance and vassalage between you and her mother Edith Imswit. Why Gravis, why did you have to be a Syndicate agent?Walking through the town, the rain kept people out of the streets and everything felt abandoned. For the first time in a long time even surrounded by everything you had accomplished, you felt demoralised and not wanting to be part of any of this. You sighed and found yourself standing in front of the jail. Well if your walking had inadvertently led you here, better to take it as a sign and go see the orc.Inside the jail structure the jailer greeted you and took your wet coat before doing the rounds of the empty jail cells on the first floor. Beyond drunkards who needed a night to freshen themselves up, the jailer didn't have much to do now with the lower dungeon being empty. Well, empty till now. He led you down the stairs and through locked doors to the now familiar dungeon with the sturdy wooden doors lining the walls.“Open the door.” You ordered him.“We feed it once a day, a bowl of porridge.” The jailer said and pushed the key in. The lock clacked several times and the jailer pulled it open. The lantern he carried shone light into the cell where you saw the old orc slumped over, but held up with chains holding its arms up.“Remove the chains.”“But my Prince…” The jailer protested.“The orc lacks the will to resist, he won't escape I promise you.” You replied.Carefully the man removed the leg irons, the chain wrapped around the orc’s waist and then lowered the chains from the roof to take them off. He breathed out loudly and leaned against the wall, but didn't react otherwise.“It shat itself, we have just thrown water at it.” The jailer said which explained some of the smell.“Thank you, that is enough. Leave the lantern and bring me a chair.” You ordered him.“My Prince?”“Just do what I tell you.”2/3
>>6469067The man did as told and you could hear the door shut close behind you as you took your seat. The lantern gave enough light to illuminate the cell and the orc. He turned his head just enough for you to see his eyes. They were deep red, yet weren't burning. There was no strength in them. The orc breathed out and allowed his head to turn away. It was as if he was ashamed of himself. You continued to study him, he had a strong frame of a warrior, just quite thin and frail. The long grey hair covered his head and a pair of large tusks jutted out of his mouth. As he sat there the fire within you kept burning, but the fire within him had been snuffed out.“Throm'ka.” You greeted the orc. “I know you understand Common, but I want to be polite.”The orc turned his head just enough for him to glance at you. At least he is reacting to you, but where to go from here?Choose one:>Properly introduce yourself. The orc must have seen Dawnholme when he was brought here. Tell him about all of this.>Have him know you are going to get him to train your men. The orc might be lethargic, but you will punch through it one way or another.>Tell the orc what you think about him. He was a warrior, maybe a leader, definitely respected. Who he is and what he has done is secondary, because you are going to give him a second chance.>Sir Gravis is still on your mind, tell the orc about him. He won't speak or reveal the details, but at least he will make a good listening partner.>Stare at the orc in total silence. He won't speak or reveal the details, but at least he will make a good listening partner. The other options are not personal; the towns grand goal, the other men. His past seems like the wrong subject considering its the past that has broken him. Some kind of animal domination and submission. This seems like a personal bond where we can find something we both regret, or atleast for now let Alric open up first so the orc can respond later. I'd imagine this orc might feel betrayed by a few others that led to their defeat and destruction. Alric is now dealing with Gravis, and plenty of other family matters who are the real forces behind the scenes. Resting your right leg on your left, you on purpose took a lazy pose and weren't ready to defend yourself. You telegraphed this really well, drawing the Cinder Sword fast would be difficult.“You were once a warrior, I can see your scars, they are not from claws, but from battles with blades and axes. I can see it in your frame, how you looked when you were standing.” You told the orc. “And I think and please correct me if I am wrong, you were a leader, a commander or a Lieutenant.”For a second you weren't sure if he knew Common that well and so you continued.“You led a group of warriors like you. How do I know it? Because at the Internment Camp, I saw you eating, but I hadn’t seen you pick up the bowl. Someone had brought it to you and when we left, the others watched and followed you with their eyes.” You said to him and leaned a bit forward. “You are someone they respected, someone with gora.”The Orcish word of honour made the orc breathe out again a bit louder. He looked at you and then closed his eyes.“I could have asked them who you are, what is your name, why are you so respected? But I didn't, why? Because it doesn't matter to me.” You said to him with a calm and quiet tone. “Perhaps I am foolish for not having done so, but not knowing who you are does help me, I can concentrate on what I see when I push your name and previous deeds into the background. They are fully secondary to this.”“What I want of you and what matters is what I am seeing, a respected warrior.” You said now with a bit more force. “Just now locked behind the veil of lethargy.”The orc opened his eyes to look at you again. He shifted a bit and raised his head to stare at the dark ceiling.“There is no will…” The orc spoke. His voice was very deep, but not guttural like Hellscream's. But it was hoarse, he probably hadn't talked in a while.“I know, I have spoken with your kin. When the Dark Portal closed following your defeat, you just lost the will to raise your hands in anger.” You said to him. “But I am not asking you to raise your hands in anger.”“Train your men?” The orc asked.“Precisely.”“Send me back… to the rest…” The orc replied and let out a deep breath. He wasn't used to talking this much.“I am afraid, Durnholde does not have a refund policy.” You chuckled and stood up. “A moment please.”Knocking on the door, the jailer opened it and you stepped out. You stopped the man before he would have gone back to chain the orc and closed the door.“Couple things, first the orc needs proper food and not just porridge. He can't train my men if he is lanky and frail.” You said and were sure that the orc could still rip off your limbs even this weak. “Second, he needs more to drink. He can barely talk with hoarse throat of his. So get me a waterskin now.”The jailer, now understanding how serious you were, ran up the stairs and returned with a waterskin.1/2
>>6469521“Water my Prince.” He said.“Good, now open the door.” You replied and took the skin. The orc hadn't moved when you returned. The door closed shut, leaving the lantern the only source of light.“Your throat is hoarse, here is some water.” You said and offered the waterskin. “Take it or do I have to pour it down your throat myself?”The orc stared back for a moment and when you took a step forward, he moved his arm to reach the skin. Quickly you popped the cork open and watched as the orc took it, raising the skin over his mouth and starting to drink. Half of the water missed, but you saw him swallow enough.“Good, keep the waterskin.” You said as he put the half-empty skin down and you took your seat. “Where were we, right… I can't send you back. I have too much use for you here and therefore I will make sure to provide you with better food. Porridge alone won't be enough.”The orc stared at you again.“I know lethargy is eating you from inside. I can't make any promises in being able to lift it, or replacing whatever demonic energies that empowered your kin, but I can still give you a purpose without ever a need to raise your hand in anger.” You told the orc. "I want the respected warrior for that, nothing more.”The orc continued to stay silent as he closed his eyes again.“I have fought enough…” He said, now with a less hoarse throat. “No more…”>The orcs are on the move, the Internment Camps are in danger. On top of what we will give him already. ///We WILL have new sparring partners for Malevus and Alric (orc [???], troll [Ranvis], dwarf [Bakhtet], dragonspawn [Sir Cyrus]. Pretty damn good). Imagine how much they will kick ass from now on... if Foecourt shows up i guess he can also put in the Sparring group. Also i am thinking of putting Pai and Sir Cyrus has regular bodyguards of our future Paladin Queen. We might need to improve security for her a notch. Sir Cyrus would be official security, Pai in the shadows. And it might be a good idea for Malevus to have Madam Judy Martin has a regular mentor-teacher.

“No more?” You asked him. “I am sorry, but the rest of us don't get to sit back and just enjoy our lives.”You sighed.“As much as I would enjoy that…” You muttered to yourself before continuing with more force in your voice. “If I could choose, I wouldn't fight ever again, I would choose my friends, my family, everyone else over it.”The orc now stared at you in silence.“But I don't get to choose, others have their own agencies to act and do things, sometimes unwise things.” You said and continued. “Hellscream and his Warsong Clan is still out there, I have seen him, he is active and planning something.”“Grommash…” The orc said.“He is keeping the lethargy away with the pure strength of his will.” You said. “If I had my armour I could have defeated him.”The orc stared at you and you could see the curiosity in his deep red eyes.“I duelled Hellscream to first blood, but I lost. Maybe no other warrior, orc or human would be capable of standing against him. Maybe not even the Doomhammer in the state I saw him last.” You told him and immediately continued. “Though Grom is not my only worry. Earlier this year I bested a death knight, Umo Shadowheart, who delivered a warning.”“The day will come when the sky will rain fire, you will be upon the brink of destruction and the reign of chaos has come at last.” You repeated it.The orc breathed deeply and let out a sigh as his head slumped down.“I am facing threats that I know how to fight against, but my men? My people?” You asked. “We Alteracis were allies with the orcs, we didn't fight against you and death knights? Our magic is limited and their skills, power overwhelming.”You shifted on your seat and leaned forward.“There is purpose in training others, a way to contribute. So that they could learn and survive what is to come.” You told the orc. “There’s honour in it, a good life for a warrior like you.”The orc didn't move until after a moment it pulled his legs closer and sank his head on his knees. He didn't move afterwards or say anything.Well, you tried. At least you got the orc to speak and listen, which was something.“Keep the lantern and the chair, though I don't think it carries your weight.” You said and stood up. “I ordered the jailer to provide you with some proper food, not just porridge and gruel. In return, there's a bucket in the corner. Use it.”Going for the door you knocked on it and waited for it to be opened. As you took the step out, the orc spoke.“Wait…” He said with his deep voice. You stopped and turned to look at the sitting orc.“There is no strength in these hands of mine.” He said to you and raised his head. “I cannot help you.”1/2

>>6470333Hes gonna train men with a weapon anyway, or at least a training weapon but an orc could easily kill with anything.I'm 90% certain hes a former burning blade blademaster, so letting him draw an actual burning blade to awaken him is just fate lol. It'll be a good bond, maybe strong enough to keep him.Shame he can't have his own cinder sword being an orc, or the officers either imagine how much that shit would cost...I wonder if we could make it work with small daggers and dragon runes? A great symbolic gift.Burning daggers would be so damn convenient besides a fancy secondary weapon. A torch you can always have on you. A little portable source of heat in those alterac winters. Fire starter. Ranger cooking pad so you can fry some meat without smoke lolMaybe we can afford it with the tax money...
Half and half, presenting the sword and giving the orc the time needed.I have for the most part written the update, but I am already nodding on my chair so time to sleep. I will finish and post it sometime tomorrow.Right decisions taken with the orc. Though staring him would have been funny. Would have been a quite confusing moment for him as well. Alric not knowing who the orc is will be a benefit.
“Close the door.” You said to the jailer who did as told.Stepping forth, you unstrapped the sword belt and presented the hilt for the orc to grip.“Your hands might remember their strength if they gripped a sword.” You said to him.The orc looked at you. You could see the struggle within him, part of him wanted to push forward, but another equally strong held him back. But in the end, slowly the orc moved his right arm and wrapped his fingers around the hilt. Carefully you in return pulled the scabbard back, unsheathing the sword.“It is called the Cinder Sword.” You told the orc and continued. “Made by the swordsmiths of Stormwind City, I won a tournament there and got it as a reward. But the blade is flawed, it is supposed to set itself on fire when unsheathed and now it just sheds embers as it heats up.”The orc's hand started to shake and the sword fell on the sandy floor.“I am not going to expect you to start training my men immediately.” You said and picked the Cinder Sword up. “You can take your time.”With Cinder Sword in your hand and scabbard in another, you stood in front of the sitting orc. Strange dynamic, you should visit him in a few days and maybe bring Malevus and Tari with you. A Paladin in training and someone who nursed an orc baby could prove helpful in breaking through the lethargy.“I will come see you in a few days.” You said and sheathed the sword. “In the meanwhile, try to find the strength within you. I know it is there.”Going for the door, you knocked on it and it opened. As you stepped out, the orc spoke one last time.“Thank you.” He said, his voice not that strong. You just raised your hand and the door closed shut.…Pulling the now dry coat on your shoulders, you were ready to leave.“You have something on your mind?” You asked the jailer.“The orc my Prince, is this wise?” He asked.“I know how this looks, a Perenolde with an orc?” You said back to him and straightened your chaperon. “And people will talk, first the troll and now an orc. But people should also talk about what has pushed me to have them here to train our soldiers. That is what they should be concerned about.”“Yes my Prince.” The jailer replied. This was going to be a topic that will shadow you now and in the future. People like Garithos will take full advantage of this when they hear the rumours and news. But you are lucky that they have lost considerable political capital while you have gained it. It won't be easy for them to push rumours and agendas against you.Still, it would be best if you were careful with these sorts of things. Unenforced errors should be avoided. But getting wet again was something you couldn't avoid, it was still raining, what a drag.1/2

“Get all the knights ready, get Captain Cromwell to arrange the men and be ready to receive them, inform Master Pelija that his folk are finally here.” You ordered the soldier. “We need them fed and inside warm houses, can't have them stand around in that rain.”“Sir, yes sir!” The soldier saluted and marched off.“I was wondering when they would arrive.” Normand said.“Same, but first I need to finish this soup. Mother would kill me if I left it half-eaten.” You replied. The foul mood of yours had been mostly lifted thanks to the progress with the orc and now with these news. It still lingered in the back of your head, but perhaps soon it should go away?…>10>6Riding out in the rain flanked and followed by nine of your knights, it surely would have been a sight to be seen if not for the rain that kept the farmers inside. It also made your foul mood return as you had to keep your stiff upper lip with Gravis around. But the ride wasn't the longest, the countryside was just a blur as you reached the tower watching the King's Road and there you saw them. Several hundred more Stonemasons with their belongings either on their backs or being pulled in simple carts. From the distance though you could see that they weren't just masons and carpenters. Their red bandanas covered their faces, pieces of armour, breastplates and dark cloaks on their shoulders, sharp blades by their sides. They were soldiers, rogues and fighters.“Quite many of them.” Sir Gravis said as the rain washed his black plate mail. “My Prince, is Master Pelija ready?”“He should be, I know he has been building more houses than required and kept some empty just for this moment.” You replied.Waiting as the Stonemasons got closer, the soldiers stationed at the tower stood at ease next to your knights with the orange Alteraci flag of the stars and swooping falcon fluttering in the rain and wind.“Welcome to Alterac!” You shouted out when they got closer.“And am I glad to be here finally!” A shout came back.Amongst the Stonemasons stood their leader Master Mason Edwin VanCleef, the Guildmaster of Stonemason’s Guild of Stormwind City, or perhaps now of Alterac. He wore his armour with his blades by his sides and he pulled down his bandana when he reached you.“Prince Alric.” He greeted you.“Master VanCleef.” You replied. “I was wondering when you would arrive.”“There were some complications along the way, we had to build our own ship!” He said to you and looked around. “Not that big of a reception?”1/2
>>6471313“This is just one of the towers watching the King's Road, Dawnholme is some distance away.” You said and chuckled. “But a ship? You can tell that story as we make our way there.”“Not a bad idea, we are all wet like dogs.” VanCleef said back. “Lead the way, we are all anxious to see our new home.”“Then follow me.”…The rain eased a bit, but continued as a drizzle that got under the cloaks and coats. You ordered Gravis to make sure everyone was moving and to take the rear spot. You wanted no stragglers. But VanCleef, even in the rain, was barely holding himself together. You could just see it in him how he had waited for this moment for months and had those months been something. First it had taken some time for them to make all the final preparations, last trips to Stormwind City to clear final stashes. Their hideouts had been emptied, valuables turned into usable coin and routes planned. They would move in small groups until they reached Menethil Harbour from where a ship would be hired.Of course nothing is as easy or simple. As much as Stormwind was allowing them to go, they had to be careful not to walk into any patrols or companies of footmen. They also had to be careful not to reveal themselves to locals who also might carry bad blood against them. And when they reached Menethil Harbour, they realised that their coin wouldn't be enough to hire passage for everyone. VanCleef, not wanting to leave anyone behind, opted to negotiate and thank the Light, Mayor of Menethil Harbour was a true capitalist and a merchant and saw the opportunity at hand. For nearly a month VanCleef and the Stonemasons worked in Menethil Harbour, including helping to finish the ship they used to cross the sea. That was the main reason why it took them this long and also a reason why they had plenty of extra coin at hand.“You should have it.” VanCleef said as the roofs of Dawnholme started to be seen.“Me? It is your coin.” You replied. “You earned it.”“Think it as a payment. You have taken all of us, there must have been expenses along the way.” VanCleef said back and continued.“I mean, building a city is not cheap. Alright, fine I accept the coin.” You replied to him after a pause.>Gained: 2 Wealth, 2 Supplies…You could see the soldiers lining the barracks and the training ground where the Stonemasons had gathered. They didn't need an order or anything as the moment they saw the men arriving, from each side people rushed to hug and greet their friends. Fathers met their sons, men their wives, friends their other friends.“Prince Alric, if you were to excuse me.” VanCleef said when he spotted Pelija.2/3
>>6471314He walked to him and shook his hand before spotting someone else. A woman with a girl of maybe two or three years of age approached him. VanCleef picked the girl up and hugged the woman. You had to take a moment to register what was going on, but then you got it and had to dismount Epona.“May I ask…” You started, but were interrupted by VanCleef who was smiling.“This is my wife and this little girl, she is Vanessa and she is my daughter.” VanCleef explained and let go of his wife.Same black hair, but the nose of her mother. “I feel like an outsider right now." You told them. “Master VanCleef, take as much time as you need and come see me later tonight in my home.”“You don't…” He started.“Today is the day for the Stonemasons, tomorrow we shall continue the work we had already started.” You told him and continued. “That is if this blasted rain wouldn't be here.”“Of course.” He replied.“And Master Pelija? Please work with Captain Cromwell to ensure everyone is housed and if anyone is wounded or sick that they would seek the medical aid of Madam Martin.” You said to him.“That is the least I can do.” Pelija replied.“Wonderful, I'll be inside. You will know where to find me after you are ready to come talk with me.” You finished with VanCleef. As much as it would have been good to continue the talks immediately, the appearance of his wife and very young daughter threw a hammer into those plans. You couldn't after being separated for who knows how long, wedge yourself between him and his family. It just wouldn't have been fair. Also the bloody rain, you wanted to get back inside and quickly.…Clack. Clack. Clack.A wooden training dummy took several practiced hits from a wooden sword. With Malevus away and weather what it is, you went back to the old and tested method of sparring. And had it been a while, probably a couple years now for this dummy to have seen use. Normand had used it as a way to teach you when you were younger.“Remember, it is as much smoothness as strength.” Normand told you as he watched the process and sipped his tea.“I am not beating the dummy, just tapping it gently.” You replied mid swings while staying moving.Clack. Clack. Clack.Another set of hits with practiced ease and with finesse. The wooden sword gently tapped the wood and in your concentration you didn't notice the front door open.“Prince Alric.” VanCleef greeted you and got you to stop.“Apologies! I shouldn't have gotten too focused on this.” You replied quickly. The rain had gotten your clothes wet and so you had been dancing around the dummy just wearing your braies and shirt all barefoot.“You also shouldn't have forgotten the passage of time.” Normand pointed out and introduced himself. “Normand Garside, formerly a Captain and Royal Quartermaster.”“Edwin VanCleef, Master Mason of Stonemason’s Guild.” He replied and did a polite bow.“He is also my father, or well a foster-father, but I have been living with him and with my mother longer than in Alterac so…” You said and shrugged before putting the sword away. “Either way, not exactly the most Princely appearance.”“One has to stay fit and ready.” VanCleef replied and was rather polite.“Take a seat.” You pointed at the table. “My mother will probably bring some tea and snacks for us.”1/2
>>6472118VanCleef looked at you and his eyes found your Fel green eyes. He paused for a second as you wiped sweat off your brow and face with a towel. He took off his own coat and put it on a coat hanger before taking the seat.“Welcome to my home.” You said as you took your own seat. “Normally there would be more people here, but Malevus and Tari are away right now. They are visiting Dalaran.”“Ahh your elven squire.” VanCleef replied. At that point Maura brought a fresh set of cups and more hot tea.“Thank you mother.”“You better not get a flu.” She said. “And to Mr. VanCleef as well.”“Thank you Mrs?” He started to say.“Maura, Alric’s mother.” Maura happiöy replied. “I will leave you men to have your talks.”After she left, VanCleef chose to speak.“I did not expect…”“Everything be so normal? So mundane?” You asked and he gave you a polite nod. “Master VanCleef, I was in exile and this building before it was extended was just a farmstead. I am not that blueblooded of a person even if my real father is whoever he happened to be. And I enjoy things this way. We Alteracis are rather down to earth type of people, though I have my own eccentricities.”“To the annoyance of his family.” Normand said.“Sometimes on purpose.” You replied with a laugh. “But you met your family and now you are here. I presume we do have a lot to talk about.”The way you had met him clearly had caught VanCleef off-guard a bit. “So, all charges dropped.” You started and sipped your tea. “King Varian was humbled and put in his place. All sides agreed to stop fighting and a common solution was found. Maybe not a solution that makes everyone happy, but content enough.”“There are those who yearn for the coin promised, but less every day, less now that they are with their families.” VanCleef said.“Similarly I presume there’s many in Stormwind who want their side of the revenge, Varian first in line.” You replied and continued. “But he is there, they are there and you are here across the sea and up these hills.”“Long way from home.” He said.“In your new home. You are going to like it here, there's no shortage of work nor in danger or problems I need to solve. You will learn about everything in time, but at this moment nothing is or will threaten us.” You told him and continued. “So I am not in any sort of hurry to have you do things or make things happen. Take your time to be with your family, talk with the others and if you would like it, come over for dinner one day with your wife and daughter.”“I will consider that invitation… I spoke with her and she told me a bit. This is a peaceful place, not a bad place to have your children grow up.” VanCleef said and continued. “But I know you have some demands, on weapons and such.”“There are laws, no carrying weapons unless you are one of my soldiers or officers. No wearing bandanas over your faces either, I have enough issues with orange bandanas already.” You replied and continued. “Those who wish not to follow these laws, they can join Drudgemoor, Morgan and Caledon at Sofera’s Naze. But I would prefer if they complied, pushing them away would harm the existing friendliness between your people and mine.”The amount of Stonemason’s at arms who had arrived was around two hundred. That was a considerable force which you could hire if you had the coin for it. But at the same time nearly doubling the armed men in Dawnholme that aren't under contract. Trying to get them integrated should be the goal.“Work will keep them busy.” VanCleef said.“Thankfully there should be work for them. The tea was really tasty and you ran your hand through your hair as you thought where to start.“The most unpredictable of them all are the ogres within Alterac and her valleys. Crushridge Clan took over the ruins of Alterac City and have been encroaching in all directions.” You told him and continued. “They have crossed the mountains, tried to push south following the King's Road. Worst of all they have somehow allied themselves with kobolds who have acted as foot soldiers for them.”“Kobolds?” VanCleef asked.“No idea how the ogres did that, but they have been around. Can't underestimate them at all.” You said and continued. “Of all the threats, they are the most unpredictable. Can't make deals or approach them. They will wage war against us sooner than later, but at least they are right now occupied by the Syndicate.”“We will need more tea if you are going to fill him with everything about them.” Normand said and stood up. “I will go. You can start.”“Yeah… there's a lot about them.” You said.“Prince Alric, it is raining outside. We have time and I would like to know what you… or we are going to be facing.” He said back.He was correct, it was raining. Alright, it wouldn't hurt to give him a brief overlook on the Syndicate.…Maybe an hour and a light dinner of cabbage and lettuce soup Maura made later, you found yourself finished. VanCleef had asked a lot of questions and you were rather happy to answer them. But you hadn't really spoken about your brother Aliden nor mentioned your sister Beve. Those can wait.“Their way of operating, it is quite similar to what… what we were planning on doing.” VanCleef confessed. “Assassinations, robberies… I can see how they might have ended up where they are now.”“One bandana orange and other red.” You mused.“Awfully similar…” He replied.VanCleef had been more silent and mulled over what he was hearing longer your explanation had progressed.“Shaw was right.” He suddenly said.“About what?”“Even if we thought our cause was just or had a noble goal. Sooner than later we would turn into common bandits.” He told you.“Or terrorism.” You said. “I presume our common friend lended her hand while I was imprisoned.” You replied.“She did.”Normand listened very closely right now.1/2
>>6472706“But like you said, King Varian was humbled. As much as we could have continued our campaign, would we have achieved more? While we were travelling here, I did a lot of thinking, it was better that we stopped now than continuing as quitting then would have been harder and harder.” VanCleef said thoughtfully. “Sooner than later most of us would have fallen on the swords we drew ourselves. Masons and carpenters exchanging chisels and planes for daggers and shortswords. It wouldn't have ended well.”He seemed rather content and glad. Taking him off this path of vengeance was the right thing to do, otherwise his Stonemason’s Guild would have followed the footsteps of the Syndicate. Master Masons into Robber Barons, questionable allegiances, whispers with dark powers. The cabbage soup was really tasty though.…You lamented about the idiocy of the Alliance to him. Of Garithos and especially Arthas. VanCleef nodded along, he knew well enough how nobles and politicians worked and how very often what they did ended up causing more and more problems.“But they can be mitigated, deals can be made, political capital spent.” You replied. “Thankfully it is just all words.”“We did hear of your elven loved one defeating Prince Arthas in a duel.” VanCleef said.“Well yeah that did happen, though I am more of the hitting my problems with a sword until they go away guy.” You chuckled. “But talking goes far, sometimes.”“Not against ogres thought.”“Not against them.” You chuckled again. The atmosphere was pleasant as the conversation had flowed from Syndicate to politics and the Alliance. You explained the Darrowmere League to him and how the Oil Rig was going to be a boon when it comes operational.“May I ask you something?” VanCleef asked.“Of course, what is it?”VanCleef's questions:>Write inQM: What would VanCleef ask? Be smart and don't reach too far.
>>6472707>Write in>About your green eyes...First thing he noticed. I'm pretty sure Alric can just tell him about the accident and our magic. >Does Alric intend to join the Alliance? The League, deals made, retaking Alterac. Where else could it lead. At the same time, VanCleef would have heard only good things. Still, a question he would make. After all this travel, one wants to be sure things are going to be good.>I don't want to assume or demand, Prince Alric.... but what kind of position do you see me in here in Dawnholme under you? Apologies for the lack of updates yesterday and now today. I have been horrifically busy with stuff, nothing major just busy brand busy. I will try to write the update tomorrow. That means there's still plenty of time to think what could VanCleef ask or perhaps maybe which one of the questions >>6472739 asked is the most important one in your opinion for VanCleef?
>>6473443Probably between 1 and 2 .The questions made by >>6472727also make sense for Alric to ask, and the second one is quite important.
>>6473475Errh for VanCleef!!!! I meant VanCleef. Like it would make sense for him to ask Alric that.
>>6473491lol>>6473443>>6473475Anon has good questions. VanCleef is a leader with his people behind him. In the Syndicate he has seen what might have been if they continued as Shaw warned. He is at a crossroads of what role to take in his new home, he could decide for himself because he is strong, but likely the path is hand in hand with Alric. I'm sure he'd be a boon just about anywhere. He cares a lot for the wellbeing of his people after all. Its natural to want to know if theres any plans for the future. Presumably we just keep on truckin cause they can do whatever, we haven't barred them from service. I would have hired the stonemason merc officers eventually but then they sorta became perma mercs with the camp.Oh I suppose VanCleef could ask something like 'Once you retake Alterac you'll need someone to rebuild it won't you?' theres a parallel to the Stormwind reconstruction. How could all the trouble be avoided. Alric has it in hand, has people he trusts, so we won't let it happen.
Update is half-finished, but won't be out today. No other excuse than QM being very busy.Apologies for the wait. I will try to catch up on missed updates as soon as possible.
>>6472707>>6473443"Currently you're a prince, but kind of king will you be if and when you reclaim the Capital?"
VanCleef sat there not saying a word for a moment as you patiently waited.“I must thank you again Prince Alric for what and everything you have done for us. From the tournament winnings you loaned, to taking in the women and children. My wife and daughter… throwing your political power around and getting jailed for it…” He started and seemed to have swallowed his pride as he spoke. “But how have you planned what is to come to us next? Will my Stonemasons be allowed to live with your Alteracis or those from Underbelly? Will they be allowed to become soldiers or officers or trusted officials?”A gentle smile appeared on your face.“We look a little bit different, we both speak Common with different accents. We both are without a homeland, but we do have a place to call a home now. In my eyes you are Alteracis, you are my people and I am your Prince.” You told him and straightened your back. “It is my duty towards all of you that keeps me motivated and moving forward. There’s nearly four thousand and two hundred souls in Dawnholme. There’s more Stonemasons here than Alteracis, so it makes absolutely no sense to make you second-class citizens and deny you the right to fight alongside us under the flag of Alterac.”Your answer seemed to have been what he wanted to hear as he seemed glad thanks to what he had heard.“In simpler terms, you are here now. So make the future as good as possible for you and your children. I would be insane to restrict that from you.” You said and continued. “Just perhaps hide the swords in the rafters for a while.”“You do have a way with words.” VanCleef said.“Some say I am charismatic.” You shrugged.“Your charisma doesn't stop us from always being so worried Alric.” Maura said to you as she came to pick up the empty bowls. “Master VanCleef, did you enjoy the food?”“After a couple months on the road, this beats the renowned restaurants of Stormwind City.” He said and gave you a curious look."I do make my parents and family worried all the time…” You sheepishly replied.“Maybe Malevus will set him straight!” Maura said as she walked away which made VanCleef give you another curious look.“And I just told you how I am your Prince, yet I am treated like a naughty boy!” You replied and shouted towards the kitchen.Normand started to laugh at that point, he found this hilarious.“Either way, we will work together for a better future…” You muttered.“Have you thought of a position for me?” VanCleef asked you. “I do not wish to assume or demand, but you didn't take us in just out of your pure heart, I know how you bluebloods think and operate.”1/2
>>6474039“You are correct. Taking you in has brought me world-class masons and carpenters, doubled our population and given me a potential source to double my standing military by hiring your men.” You told him matter of factly. “And you have brought mages with you, I am always in need of more magic.”You looked at him and gave him a curious look as you studied the Master Mason.“But you, when has been the last time you have held a chisel in your hand?” You asked.“Nearly… nearly two years.” He said.“I want you to take up the chisel and show everyone that it is time to put the swords away at least momentarily. Be the example your soldiers can follow. “ You said to him and immediately continued. “But… but that would be a waste of your skills. If I wanted just a Master Mason, I have Pelija for that. You didn't become the Guildmaster just because of your knowledge on how to carve stone, but because you can organise thousands of workers, run complex projects and have logistics all make sense. Not forgetting your ability to build up a spy network, have eyes all over and be able to infiltrate the City on a whim.”“You are more than just a mason Master VanCleef.” You said.“You are right.” He said back. “But have you thought of anything? It would help me to… put things where they belong so to speak.”It was a good question and sooner an official position was chosen or made for him, the better. The Stonemasons need to see him upfront and high up in the picking order. VanCleef probably was one of the most important people in Hillsbrad right now and if he was in any way a malicious person, he could easily try to push you aside. A Stonemason and a terrorist, how could you get most out of him?Choose one:>Pelija has been doing his job, replace him with VanCleef and name him the Master Architect of Alterac. Someone needs to rebuild Alterac City one day and it will be him.>To signify the unity and to show Stonemasons you are brothers in arms, make him a Captain. Have him fight beside you, being an officer is a high position.>Make him your Steward. His abilities as the Guildmaster will come useful, you need someone like him to help you administer the realm.>Name him as your Advisor and have a place in your council. You want him to work very closely with Eligius and Lady Nalice as his skills in cloak and dagger business are very valuable.QM: Options go from Stonemasons and building focus, Military and combat focus, Organisation and admin focus, Intrigue and spying. You can switch his focus later or double task him, but right now he will wear just one hat. What gets you the most right now? I have added him to the Side Character Stats pastebin.
>>6474040>Make him your Steward. His abilities as the Guildmaster will come useful, you need someone like him to help you administer the realm.I'm curious about the "We look a little bit different" part.I assumed that all humans in the setting looked like generic fantasy white people like they were in the Warcraft RTS and vanilla WoW.How do they look different from each other exactly? Do the Stormwindians look Mediterranean while the Alteracis look more Germanic/Nordic?
>>6474040>>Make him your Steward. His abilities as the Guildmaster will come useful, you need someone like him to help you administer the realm. As expected he has some good stats a nice round spread. Could do anything well mostly surprisingly low warfare for someone in such a violent profession.>>6474042I have no idea the north makes sense for language and ethnicity due to the arathor empire but i have no idea how stormwind was formed.
>>6474042World of Warcraft has tried to differentiate various human factions a bit, for example Kul Tirans look a bit different from the rest. I have tried to sometimes do the same for those who notice it, a bit of flavour.I think generally Alteracis are depicted as the mountain Swiss, but I find that really lazy so I went to more eastern European look with Alric’s fine Cossack clothes being the really traditional Alteraci clothes. Mentioning Alric’s accent is another small thing. It is mostly a storytelling tool to depict Alteracis as not part of Lordaeron, but as outsiders.Rest are relatively interchangeable and I haven't bothered mentioning major differences. But I could easily imagine if you were to put people in underwear next to each other, you could differentiate between all major kingdoms and locations, perhaps even within relatively close distances.
>>6474040Took me a bit to get into the mood to write some thoughts down then I lost what I was writing from a browser hiccup lol. Oh well.I don't think I wanted to see VanCleef so humble in his homecoming victory but its good to finally have him on the team. Very solid character.>Pelija has been doing his job, replace him with VanCleef and name him the Master Architect of Alterac. Someone needs to rebuild Alterac City one day and it will be him.Restore the role he should have had in Stormwind if not for everything blowing up. Letting the Stonemasons heal and rebuild just seems like the right thing.Very tempted on the intrigue route. I'd probably put him towards an operation in Strahnbrad, use some of that stolen dreamdust to help them find the source. If that was destroyed I think every faction would be weakened as a big setback. Admin wise I don't think we're in need? Beric handles trade. Eligius and Nalice handle the black books, plus they just got that new underbelly fence guy. Everything Normand and Alric were handling up till now is being handed off to City Hall and Tari as Mayor. Kinda feels like we just gave her a promotion and then put a middle manager on top of her lol. Theres two people who can basically handle the books, Tari and VanCleef, but only VanCleef can really heal the wounds of the Stonemasons.
“Realistically till now the majority of all the paperwork has been done by Normand and me. Only relatively recently Taretha Foxton, our new Mayor, has helped to shift some of the workload off our backs. With Normand retiring and with Dawnholme and my territory growing, we can't really carry on with just the two of us and some clerks.” You told VanCleef and continued. “You are the Guildmaster of Stonemason’s Guild, you have experience with rebuilding Stormwind City and handling thousands of workers and countless deliveries of building materials and goods.”“You need me to help with the paperwork?” He asked you.“I need you to be my Steward. My right hand when it comes to running not just Dawnholme, but Alterac.” You told him and explained further. “You would work with Miss Foxton, with my officers and continuing from where Normand and I have done things before.”You stood up to be able to walk a bit closer and look down at VanCleef.“You would be the most important person after me. That is how much trust I am putting on your shoulders.” You told him and extended your hand for him to shake. “So how is it? Will you take the job or do you need to think for a day or two?”VanCleef seemed to not have expected this at all. He probably had a lesser position, maybe something to do with Stonemasons or with the cloak and dagger business in mind. He looked at you for a second before standing up and taking your hand.“How could I say no to such an honour?” VanCleef said and shook your hand. “Thank you Prince Alric.”“Anything less would be a waste of your skills and I do need a functioning bureaucracy. There’s taxes to be counted, supplies gathered and so much more.” You replied. “But for today that is all, tomorrow I will inform my officers and we can start sorting all of this out. Later when everyone is here we can have a proper ceremony and everything.”“I feel overwhelmed, I just got here.” VanCleef lamented.“Better to have the rug pulled out from under you immediately, recovery and going to work will follow soon after.” You said. “Isn't that right Steward VanCleef?”He started to laugh.“I have seen a lot Prince Alric, but I haven't seen anything like this before. A bold move, but you won't be disappointed.” He said and clapped your shoulder. “But where exactly are all of your officers and this Miss Foxton?”“Here and there, they will be back in a day or two or you don't have to worry about them.” You said to him.You missed Malevus, you missed Tari and little Faelyn. Eligius, you missed him as well. How was he even doing right now?………You are Eligius, Spymaster of the Prince, a scribe, a warlock and currently rather wet.“I hate rain.” You muttered. The weather was on your side as rain would hide your movement and make spotting you overall a lot more difficult endeavour, but it also made you wet which was really annoying.1/2
>>6474288“You have said that a thousand times already.” Pai replied while she sat next to you. She was annoyed as well. The horse cart moving the supplies to Lord Creedy made its way towards the Keep he was hiding at. The horsemen you had apprehended had told you the directions and everything else useful while the lingering effects of Fear were still on them. The five of them including the trader were left tied in the woods, maybe they could escape, but they wouldn't hinder you. Closest village was perhaps a day or two away and the Keep…“Soon it will be dark, we should reach the Keep just as the night falls.” You said.Sir Cyrus, Otto Wanz and Bill Rover were too on horseback as they followed the cart. Everyone was quite serious and silent, they all knew how close you were to your goal.“Hey Eligius.” Pai said and asked. “Do you think the horsemen lied to us? Or just didn't tell everything?”"I don't think so. Fear is a powerful spell, they wouldn't have the courage to tell any lies.” You explained.“Scary.” She said.Everyone was silent, except Pai who kept asking you questions regularly. You could tell she too was nervous. The mountains loomed ahead of you. You had been going uphill for some time already and the cart path wasn't often travelled.“Bill Rover, can you scout what's ahead of us?” You asked the tracker. “I don't want any surprises.”“Aye.” He gave a gruff reply and rode ahead. It was silent for a moment until Pai spoke again.“Hey Eligius.” She said and asked. “What will you do when you get back home?”“Is Miss Assassin nervous?” Sir Cyrus who rode close enough to hear what she said, said with his thick Stormwind accent.“Shut up, I did not ask you.” Pai spat back and got the knight to back off.>Is Pai, the known assassin, actually nervous? That would be a new development.>You will report to the Prince, sort all the paperwork you have missed and get back to work.>Probably just go to sleep in your own bed and not think about any adventures for a while.>Frankly you do not know. >10“Frankly…” You started and paused to think. “I don’t know. We have been away for so long that it might take a day or two to just get used to being back home.”“Boooring.” Pai sighed and leaned back on the cart. The rain pitter-pattered on her face as she stared at the sky. “But I guess you are right.”“The Prince has come back from Stormwind City after a successful diplomatic visit, things have been calm as we didn’t hear anything while in Stranhbrad.” You mused and continued. “If Syndicate had done something, we probably should have heard something about it. Or if the ogres had done something.”Pai continued to stare at the evening sky and got her face wet from the rain.“The rain is getting heavier.” She sighed after a while.“Miss Assassin is right, perfect weather for some clandestine action.” Sir Cyrus who had been listening replied. He was quite unflappable.“I did not speak to you knight.” Pai spat again at him.“He is right, the rain should help us… even if I hate it…” You said and muttered.“Then shut up, I hope we get there soon. The faster we get this done, the better.” Pai muttered back. She was nervous. After intercepting those horsemen, she became more and more nervous. After all this time you were so close to Lord Creedy and Princess Alicia. That meant combat, a battle. That meant Pai being this close in her goal to kill Creedy. But instead of just being eager, she was nervous. That was so unlike of her. What has gotten into her.…>8It took till the night had properly fallen and the rain had gotten really heavy when Old Bill had come back. You barely saw him ride to you and dismount his horse.“We are close.” He said. The cart was stashed somewhat close to the road with the horses as Bill guided the four of you through the forest and bushes. Without a lantern it was difficult to follow the small man wearing a cloak of dark green and brown, but finally after a while you could see the Keep.It was an old Keep, a tall square tower with many floors stood next to the mountain side, a low curtain wall of perhaps four meters tall went around it with one gatehouse and one small tower watching from a corner. It wasn’t like the grand fortresses you had seen in Stormwind City or in Stromgarde, but more like a place to occupy and keep watch and not defend against invading armies. You didn’t need more than just a few siege ladders to get over the wall and inside the courtyard if you were sieging the place.Along the wall you could see a light, a man keeping a watch carried a lantern as he made rounds. More lights could be seen within the gatehouse and then through the small windows of the Keep itself. It didn’t seem that there were that many people out at this hour, most of them were probably inside.1/2
>>6474865“I count three guards on the wall.” Bill whispered. “Doing rounds.”“Then let’s get in.” Pai whispered back, she really was nervous.“Wait wait… we need a plan.” You whispered to her and crawled back some distance, the others followed you.“Any ideas?” You asked them when you had reached a level of safety.“Give me ten men Mr. Scribe and I can take the Keep.” Sir Cyrus answered. “The walls are low, we can get over them.”“We do not have ten men, or ladders.” You said back to him.“We do have rope.” Sir Cyrus replied. “In the horsecart, I checked.”“We have the horsecart, they are expecting supplies.” Otto Wanz suggested. “We could just go through the gate like the Syndicate we are and then we…”“Fight!” Sir Cyrus finished Otto’s thought.“Pai? Bill?” You asked them next.“My bow is dry, for now.” Bill Rover said.He probably meant that he could deal with some of the guards, but the longer the night goes, the more wet his bow would get.“Get me on the wall, I can open the gatehouse for you.” Pai suggested.“So the plans basically are getting on the walls or inside while pretending to be Syndicates, but then what?” You asked and continued. “We don’t know what is out there. The horsemen weren’t helpful enough on that part.”Pai sighed and stared at you.“Eligius, sometimes you… you don’t think enough of yourself. You are a warlock who terrified those men and you struck down that kobold. You are really smart, you can figure something out.” Pai told you and continued. “We have two warlocks, a knight, a bowman and an assassin. We don’t need ten men. We can do this, we must do this.”The way Pai was staring at you and how the others looked at you made it clear, this would be your call. What should be the approach taken? The wall is not that high so it can be climbed with rope and some sort of a hook or loop. You just need to clear any guards that might catch you climbing, or have Pai do it alone and let her handle the things. Or you could pretend to be the supply shipment and have the goods brought inside. If they are waiting for the shipment, they should open the gate for you. And then just need to get inside the Keep, up the floors and find where Alicia is, or Creedy for Pai.There is so much here that could go wrong!>Scale the outer wall and deal with the patrolling guards. Get into the courtyard and then go from there.>Have Pai scale the wall and get the gate open, she is adamant she can do it.>Use the horsecart and pretend to be Syndicates bringing supplies to the Keep, they should open the gate for you.>Other, write inQM: Behold a piece of art. Mostly just there to give an idea what sort of a Keep we are talking about, don’t take it as a highly accurate depiction. The rain is strong and muffles sounds and makes seeing into darkness hard.
Neato not sure what to go for. Either the horsecart or the pai gatehouse scale. I dont like the scaling outer wall with everyone plan. Mostly because eligius isnt that athletic and either fail or tire him out not a good start. We also need to think about how we are getting out and if we control the gatehouse that makes things much easier. After all i doubt a 4 meter wall is good for a child and if she is carried that just slows down the one who is carrying them. Pai scaling the wall and getting into the gatehouse is just...we dont know how many people are in the gatehouse and if she gets in trouble we cant exactly help her.
>>6474872It is a toughie. I'm leaning towards Pai going in. Put the magic cloak on her just for the added stealth to clear the gatehouse.Controlling the gatehouse would be great for when we have to leave otherwise we might have to clear it out while being pursued later. Or have to use the rope to go down in the rain while carrying a child, which would really suck if we're pursued. Sadly we don't know of any secret escape routes the keep might have. The ideal exit I think is grabbing some horses, leaving the rest unsuitable to ride, and then charging out the already unlocked/open gate into the night. They've probably got a table and drinks in the gatehouse. If we still had that block of dreamdust maybe Pai could spike their drinks with it while using the magic inviso cloak? Its powerful stuff I figure, especially straight from the pure block. Avoid fighting the whole gatehouse, and if anyone checks on them while we're gone being knocked out on dreamdust might not raise an alarm just piss a few people off lolCould take a hot minute but we'd have the cover of the trees at least.I guess if there was a window our bowman or warlocks could try to shoot through it as support but its probably a really small target.>>6474865>Have Pai scale the wall and get the gate open, she is adamant she can do it.>Other, write inGive her the magic cloak, and the block of dreamdust. >>6474887Its been a while after all. I wonder if Eligius should juice himself up now while hes got convenient trees to turn into fel? Or could he grab a really nice flower and just bring it with him lol.On the other hand who knows if they have some warlocks inside. I suppose it depends how much Creedy is willing to trust the warlocks, if they knew where he was they could coup his ass and take over his faction.

“She is right.” You said. “We are going to get you on that wall and you will open the gate for us.”“Mr. Scribe, I will go fetch the rope.” Sir Cyrus replied and left to get the rope.“I don’t think we can fool our way in and I am not athletic enough to scale a wall…” You told the rest. “Nor do I think the rope can hold Sir Cyrus.”Others looked at you and you nodded once. Right, make decisions. Think like the Prince, What Would Alric Do.“The side wall, Pai will approach it with the rope and scale the wall. We stay here and wait till the gatehouse is open. Mr. Rover shoot anyone who might threaten her.” You told them and continued. “When the gate opens, we rush in. Any questions?”No one had anything to say, not even Otto Wanz who earlier in this journey was the most defeatist of this bunch or at least didn’t think much of your chances.“Good, let’s get to work then.” You said.Everyone picked themselves up, it was either training and experience or just the situation pushing everyone to act, even you.“Pai wait.” You said and stopped her before taking off the Robe of Obfuscation. “You will need this way more than I do.”Pai looked at you handing the Robe to her and took it after a pause.“You should have kept it, to get away with the Princess.” She said as she took off her cloak and threw the Robe on. Her cloak didn’t fit you so the rain very quickly got your wet clothes to be and stay wet. “I would have been fine without it.”“Just keep it, you said I am a warlock, I can defend myself.” You replied to her. “But go, get the rope. Waiting won’t do us any good.”“You are right.” Pai said and took a couple steps away before stopping. “Eligius, what does the Prince say in situations like this?”“Alterac Stands?” You asked yourself aloud.“Hmmp… Alterac Stands then.” She shrugged and gave you a smile. You could see it in her, even through her nervousness she was ready to act. You all were, you had to. The Prince had chosen you for this mission and expected you to succeed.Gently you slapped your own cheeks and walked to join the others. Now just to watch and wait.1/3

That must have been Pai, she must have thrown the first man over the wall. You tried to see through the darkness, the Robe of Obfuscation does not work if you know the wearer is somewhere there and there a glint in the darkness, her shortsword revealed where she was as she walked on the wall into the tower. The rain muffled the noises, but the light inside the tower disappeared. Something was going on and then Pai appeared on the wall facing you. You thought she looked towards your direction before she was walking towards the lone guard standing on the wall next to the gatehouse.Another light, there must be stairs leading up to the wall behind her. Another guard!“Bill, take him out!” You whispered loudly.Bill Rover did not need to be told for a second time as the small man stood up and pulled the string back. He had anticipated trouble and the already notched arrow lined up with the guard who had just walked up to the wall with a torch. If he turned to look to his right, he must see Pai even with the Robe and all.Twang the bow went and the arrow flew straight, hitting the guard straight into his mouth and penetrating deep. The torch fell on the wall as the man thumpled and leaned against the crenelations before falling over and dropping down the short distance. With a crunch he hit the ground head first and folded in half like fresh laundry. The guard who stood watching the road was alerted and so was Pai. She rushed him and before the man could respond, she had already pushed her blade through his chest and taken out a dagger to cut his throat. The dying guard fell down on her feet and without a pause she walked past him and into the gatehouse.Silence returned and none of you could see anything. Seconds turned into minutes until finally the gate opened just enough for someone to get through.“Now go!” You said and stood up, sprinting towards the gate.2/3
>>6475080The rain continued to wash the land around you as you ran, your clothes wet and now your trousers muddy from the dirt and mud. Reaching the gate, you pushed through the gap and nearly collided with Pai. Her clothes were all bloody with blood splatters on her face.“Are you alright?” You had to ask.“Not my blood, I am fine.” She asked and continued as others joined you. “What now? What next?”She waited for your orders. What next? That’s the thing, you had no idea. The stables and the barn were out there across the small courtyard and so was the door into the Keep. You had to go in and up whatever stairs, but you also had to think about going up and finding Alicia and also then getting away. You have to get up and then back down and if the Syndicate has a voting right, they will be somewhere in the middle meddling with your plans. Right now you still had the surprise, no alarm had been made. But how long would that last, would it be permanent?Within you though, the killing and violence had triggered something. A sliver of Fel, natural Fel that littered battlefields had been formed. You instinctively drew it in and you could feel the ice cold malice and the insatiable avarice to power spread within you. Your master had always taught you to avoid keeping Fel within you, just be the conduit and nothing more. But now, you feel like you need to break that lesson. You needed this, you needed all of this.Eligius:Magic: 3/3Fel: 1/3Spells:-Shadow Bolt-Corruption-Fear-Demon Skin-???Main Goal:>Get inside the Keep through the door and find your way up the stairs.>Set up a diversion by setting the stables or the barn on fire. That should distract whatever guards there are, but also make them quite alert for intruders>You need to clear the buildings in the courtyard first, you can’t have anyone behind you when you go inOtto Wanz:>Follow the main group inside the Keep>Stay at the walls and in the courtyard to provide support when you withdrawBill Rover:>Follow the main group inside the Keep>Stay at the walls and in the courtyard to provide support when you withdrawSir Cyrus:>Follow the main group inside the Keep>Stay at the walls and in the courtyard to provide support when you withdrawQM: You need to go in, but will you leave someone behind to cover your withdrawal? As a reminder the spells Eligius knows. Also as a reminder compared to Alric who always has Fel inside him, Eligius needs to draw it from natural sources, spend Magic to create it, or drain it from living or dying creatures.I might have another update in me later today.

>>6475081Good job Eligius and Pai gang cleared the gatehouse! If I had to guess that ??? spell I'll say Life Drain, which would be great if it works by Wc3 rules to let you heal someone else as well lolDang if it is and he pumps it with the Bloodstone? I'm imagining some dude turning into a mummyAnyways on the actual mission, I guess it depends. Bill would probably be the best cover in the gatehouse and he'd stay dry. It would probably suck to shoot a bow inside the castle hallways anyway even if the gatehouse had a shortbow to take.Cyrus is in knight armor and he'd make a bunch of noise so we probably couldn't sneak with him in the Keep, but maybe we could bluff our way up once inside.Otto would be pretty handy in either spot. Two ranged dudes with a gatehouse to shoot from, possibly with a knight to hold the door and stairs. Or two warlocks, Pai, and Cyrus to really clear the hallways when shit hits the fan.If we went full stealth approach I think we give the cloak back to Eligius so he and Pai can go up the keep. The rest in the gatehouse.
>>6475084SupportOtto and Bill would make for very strong cover on our way out, gotta grab horses when we leave. Don't want ol Bill or Otto on their lonesome as some kind of last stand at the gatehouse. With either Pai or Eligius under the Robe of Obfuscation it only looks like 2 people moving about the keep. I suppose with Pai under it no one will recognize her. Eligius can use his milquetoast scribe special. Sir Cyrus was what, a southern knight hooked on dreamdust? Or with his visor down hes just another fallen alteraci knight who wants some scrap of paper.
“We have to get inside the keep, nevermind the barns.” You said to Pai.You moved inside the courtyard and close to the Keep itself before looking at the rest.“Otto, Bill.” You started and took a breath. “You will stay on the walls and keep the courtyard clear. If the Syndicate is going to catch you, run, leave us behind.”“Aye.” Bill Rover said and kept his bow close to his cloak.“Three of you are going to do it all?” Otto Wanz asked.“What use would it be if we couldn’t get out?” You said back. You still weren’t sure of any of this, but you had to push forward. Otto and Bill moved up the stairs on the wall and into the gatehouse while the three of you followed the Keep towards the door.“As much as it is nothing, bandanas up.” You ordered Pai and Cyrus.Pushing the door open, you stepped inside the Keep and found no one. It was empty inside, but the lanterns were lit and you looked around. There was a set of stairs upstairs and the rooms beside them. The first floor didn’t seem anything useful to you at all. Going up the second set of stairs, you found yourself looking at a guard sitting behind a desk and another one standing next to him.“Oh, who might you be?” The man behind the desk asked.“Supply delivery, from Strahnbrad.” You quickly lied as Pai and Cyrus came next to you.“Supply delivery? We were scheduled for a delivery, but you are late.” The man said and looked at his papers, then at you and then at the papers again. “Hold on, let me…”“En Garde!” Sir Cyrus shouted and closed the distance. The knight’s longsword punched easily into the body of the guard who was standing there. With a clean smooth motion he drew the blade out and slashed at the man sitting behind his desk, cutting open his throat. The man who he had stabbed slumped down on the floor while the guard behind the desk held his throat before falling on the desk.“Sir Cyrus…” You muttered.“Threat has been eliminated, we can proceed.” He said, seemingly proudly. Was he really a knight? You took a deep breath, sure, first and second floor stairs done. Up we go. The killing by Sir Cyrus filled the room with death and agony. Both men gurgled as they were dying and you drew it all in. You would need it all, you were sure.Eligius:Magic: 3/3Fel: 2/3Spells:-Shadow Bolt-Corruption-Fear-Demon Skin-???Use Bloodstone to empower your magic?>Yes>No>Up the stairs, go up and up>Have Sir Cyrus to go up first if he is this eager>Clear the second floor, you must be sure that nothing is in here that could act against you>Go for the ???, now it is the time for it.>Other, write inQM: Easy part is done.
