Low effort slop.

Your name is Anon Hardwood.

You wake up in your shitty apartment...

You stretch and look around you... Your mattress is on the ground, your random merch is scattered everywhere... but at least you got rid of that black mold... though the entire place stinks of vinegar now... Gross... Still, that bought you yet another extension on your rent since you're pretty sure you could have normally sued the landlady into hell and back for how crap your place is... pretty sure she's only renting it out cause of a new law they passed...

Ugh, it's like... 10pm... what the fuck... that is... the WORST time to wake up... you're wired...

WAT DO?
>You're gonna be fucking late for work... Night shift security, baby... If that's not dead-end, I don't know what is...
>Attempt to fix your horrendous NEET sleep schedule by taking more melatonin than recommended then laying back down.
>Another sleepless night... time to get online and start shitposting about... I don't know, whatever.
>fuck, did your fish die? damnnit, when's the last time you fed them?!
>Write in.

This is a "what you pick becomes reality" type deal, so you aren't going to be late for work if you pick an option other than the first one, you'll just not have a job.

>You're gonna be fucking late for work... Night shift security, baby... If that's not dead-end, I don't know what is...

You get your "work clothes" on, and your work clothes ready.

That is to say, you throw on your dirty work uniform and cram a change of actually comfortable clothes that you throw on when no one's looking,

You also throw in a half-empty bag of cheetos and a cheap canned coffee into your bag before you leave your apartment... the landlady's apartment is real damn loud- is her hearing starting to go? that TV has gotta be cranked to like... 75/100 or something.

You bike your way to the office building you work in... you clock in at the registered time- (well, seven minutes late, but who really gives a shit, you showed up 20 minutes early yesterday, so that balances out, right?) and sigh as you feel this shitty crusty hat touch your head.

...Seriously, who the hell decided fucking security guys needed these hats? It looks stupid even on cops...

As you look at the building... crap, a few lights are on at around the 10th floor, someone's working late probably... you're gonna have to wait to throw on your comfy wear... or risk them walking into your office and seeing you in a "Little Scizor's Pizza" T shirt and ratty shorts if they need you for some reason...

You go up to the 17th floor (of 20) and settle into the security room. ...Most of these cameras are broken...

WAT DO?
>Actually do your damn job and do rounds and shit.
>Go bother whoever the hell is staying so late to pack up already so you can wear your degenerate clothing
>Throw on the T shirt and shorts- caution is for nerds...
>"Work" by fiddling with the cameras and filling out yet another repair request form...
>Go take a dump on company time. It's the principle of the thing.

>start watching seven different animes at the same time on the monitors connected to the broken cameras
Aaahh, business as usual...
>>
>>6469965
You prove to the whippersnappers that you don't need "phones" to rot your brain by rigging 7 animes to play at once by connecting the computer system to your laptop.

Ahh... Perfection.

"But Anon!" You weep "Isn't it impossible to appreciate all the anime at once!? And won't your ass get canned for sure if someone walks in!?"

First: Yeah, if you were watching all of them for the first time- you've got a system. One new anime you've been wanting to watch, and six ones you already like. That way, if both the new anime hits a horrendously dull point or if it turn out to be shit, or if the file turns out to be corrupted, you just direct your attention to the other screens.

And Second- Normal people are not lunatics who watch seven anime at once. If someone walks in on you watching one anime, obviously slacking off. No good. Seven anime? Well, no sane man would subject himself to this, so it must be a virus or a misclick something.

And third: You are really overestimating how seriously people take your position of "guy who works at company that's either too lazy or too poor to repair security cameras."

Ah... You let the funny Japanese words wash over you as you sit back, relax, and focus on the new anime you brought in...
"Hell's Highway Hooligans."
...Meh. It's... fine. Very carried by the female lead being hot and obviously pouring all their budget into the fight scenes...
You find yourself more drawn to the other six screen more...

You while away an hour or two before realizing that it's technically time to do your rounds/whoever was working late SURELY has left, right?

>Go check first... No sense in risking your job more than you already are...
>Meh, change. What are they gonna do, find another guy willing to sacrifice all his social life for a quick buck?
>Actually do your job and do a round... then come back and continue slacking off.
No Write Ins...

>Actually do your job and do a round... then come back and continue slacking off.
*Aight, lets walk a round and do the minimal needed to get paid. Don't want to get another damn call from the boss like the one a few months ago...
>>
>>6469968
>Actually do your job and do a round... then come back and continue slacking off.
>>
...Right... No need to overcomplicate things... Workin' Slackin'. That's the German word for "Doing enough to not get tossed out".

Your unimportant as hell job is really, really quite simple.

Check the main offices, check the server rooms, and check the roof.

And if you run into someone, you're supposed to "detain them" and "call the police"- so in other words, if it's a shitty teen, lightly whap em with your shitty plastic club if they're hostile and call the police, and if it's someone with some actual weaponry, cry like a bitch and hope they don't kill you.

The offices are deserted... mostly. When you get to the floor with the still on light... it just appears to have been left on. The desks there are a bit messier than usual, maybe someone just got lazy? Lotta bluescreens. Damn Microsoft, amiright?
The server room is creepy as hell and full of blinking lights... but when you turn it on, there's no one there and no racks ripped out the walls, so you're good.
And the roof...
You honestly hate checking the roof. Ugh.

You didn't USE to have to check the roof, but some other company in the area had a hobo die on their roof, and that was bad press, so now you have to.

You're not some idiot that believes in monsters, but you do believe a hobo on drugs could think stabbing you is a good idea... and the lights don't work properly up there...

And all you have for protection is this crappy Desert Eagle.

...
Wait.

That's not right.

You check again. What was originally a plastic club is now a fucking Desert Eagle.

You're not a gun guy. All you know about guns is that you don't know a lot about guns, the AK-47 is pretty darn sweet, the Desert Eagle is laughably impractical, and the one Hank from Madness Combat uses is called a P-90. There is no way this is yours, but at the same time... *Pat Pat* it's definitely real. No way the company you work for has this either...

The hell is going on? ...Fuck, is this a horror scenario? Goddamnit, did the god of scary shit see you not adequately fear vampires and grew offended you were scared of being stabbed by a druggie and chucked the whole office into hell? You're not telling your supervisor you got a fucking gun without realizing, you're not getting landed as a mental case.

WATDO?
>Retreat to the office, call supervisor, say you found a gun on the grounds?
>Call the Police maybe?
>No, no, calm down. You're going to do your job, and then go pawn this for cash. Easy.
>write in
>>
>>6469982
>Hold on, why are we panicking like some woman, this is not about the gun, somehow our baton got transmogrified into a gun, or maybe you misplaced it? Let's go back to the security room and see if it's there.
>>
>>6469982
>Check to see if the Deagle is loaded
>>
You fiddle with the gun for a bit, hoping to not blow your goddamn head off by mistake. You manage to get the mag (or is it clip?) out... yep. Those are bullets in there. Metal. You're pretty sure blanks don't look like bullets, so... unless you're willing to test if this is a real gun or a really complex metal replica, you're landing on 99.99% sure it's a real goddamn gun. ...Pretty long and fat bullets too... probably fires the .50 something something round. The biggest one for the deagle?

Okay, maybe... another one of the security guards brought a handgun from their belongings for their own protection, and then just had a brainfart and left it in the room, and you somehow picked it up by mistake?

You make your way down, choosing to leave the Roof to later when you're not dealing with this mess.

...You open the security room door... Everything is as you left it.

You dig around for a while... and find... pretty much absolutely nothing out of the ordinary, but your baton is definitely not here.

Besides a magically transforming baton, it's either you somehow picked this up at the end of your last shift or midway through this one, misplacing your baton without realizing and somehow didn't realize right until now. You'd LIKE to say that you're not that unobservant, but... you can't say for certain.

You try calling your supervisor, but... it goes straight to voicemail... which goes straight to informing you to tell the person to clear their voicemails because there's no storage left... Darn.

...However, you notice a few things strange on the cameras. On the camera for the 10th floor, it appears the lights have been... switched back on. Additionally, there's a group of people milling outside the building's ground floor... like.. seven, maybe six? Technically you're supposed to also clear out loiterers and bums, though you never really do it because A) you feel bad and B) Again, getting hobo-shanked. ...Don't look like bums, though.

WATDO?
>Suck it up and go finish your round, check on the Roof.
>Floor ten- this time check if they have auto lights or some shit, you moron.
>Go and deal with the loiterers.

>fuck this weird-ass shit. Continue watching anime, with the doors locked.
Something's fucky here, and we'll lower our potential survival rate if we leave our security bunker to go investigate. Could be murderhobos about on floor 10, or some sort of rapeghost or something. We ain't getting paid enough to deal with that.
>>
>>6470286
>fuck this weird-ass shit. Continue watching anime, with the doors locked.
In horror security guards have a way of dying first and horroribly especially on their rounds.
>>
>>6470286
>Floor ten- this time check if they have auto lights or some shit, you moron.

Also, make sure that the safety is engaged. Then check if there's a round in the chamber. Mentally prepare myself to switch the safety off and deal with a ghost that turns lights on late at night.
>>
Right. Nope! Nope! Nope! You're paid "Better than NEETBUX" money, not "This is my sanctuary." or whatever the fuck that guy from that fakeout horror manga with the security guy with the phony death omen saw his job as. ...Or whatever he saw his job as... it's been a minute since you read it... (the female lead seriously kept getting more off model as time went on... looked like a completely different person at the end... art devolution if you've ever seen it...)

The smart thing to do here is... fiddle with the gun, sit on your ass, and watch the cameras. As long as nothing weird or stupid happens, when quittin' time arrives, that's also when there's more cars and people walking about, so any neer-do-wells should fuck right off. You lock the doors.

The safety on the gun is ON, and in, you can't fire it. While watching your 7 anime, you make sure to pay attention to floor 10 and the outside camera... On the outside, the group continues milling around each other... it's clear they're talking to each other, but you can't really make out anything else...? Meanwhile, on camera 10... Agh, the fuck? It's even shittier than normal. There's... well, it's such a fucking mess you can't make out anything at all... At this rate, more than half of the fucking cameras are going to be unusable.

...Another few minutes pass by, and- oh what the fuck why is it you!?

The goddamn assholes on the ground floor just chucked a trash can through the glass doors! FUCK! Goddamnit, they're making their way inside!?!? Why isn't the alarm going off!? ...You say, as you sit in a crappy room where almost half of the cameras are broken in an office building on the shitty side of town!? Why is your signal dead!?

AND THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING OR SOMEONE THAT WAS ON THE 10th FLOOR THAT MADE A DASH FOR THE STAIRS GOING UP! YOU SAW IT ON THE CAMERA!!!
FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK!!!

Suddenly, you feel something open inside you.

QM NOTE:
First, I'm referencing a real manga at the start. Bonus points if you can figure out which one.
Second: i GENUINELY know fuck-all about firearms. I will try to avoid complete bullshit like curving bullets unless this becomes a story where curving bullets is tonally appropriate, but if some bullshit happens, you've been warned.

Alright, smart thing to do is to NOT rush out and confront a bunch of ruffians, and instead hold steady in the office. Even if you get fired for this... Well, it's better than dying, right?

You turn out the lights, flip the safety off, and point the gun at the door. You're not sure how well this cheap plastic folding table will work as cover, but... It's better than nothing.

...It doesn't take long before you hear someone rapidly approaching the door... probably whoever was on floor 10, or maybe one of the goons ran ahead of the others...

The door rattles, but isn't rammed against, and you hear slapping on it.

???:"Goddammnit! Hey! I know you're inside! Help me, you asshole!"

Voice of... young woman. ...Actually, significantly young. Not as in "oh that's an elementary" but like "definitely an intern or something like that."

???:"If you're too chickenshit to fight these shitheads, at least help me hide, you fucker! Come on, you lazy asshole, open up! You're not gonna let a defenseless girl like me get kidnapped just because she fell asleep at her desk, right!? HELLO!? ARE YOU SLEEPING IN THERE!?"

...A flaw in your brilliant plan emerges. Suppose this is just a break-in... you are going to feel really, really bad if this is just a normal break-in and this is a normal person and they die or something. ...But if this is some freaky monster dealio, responding might be a bad idea... though... Again, you haven't seen anything outright supernatural today, just a mysterious gun.

WATDO?

I made another mistake and I forgot to add "cell" to "Why is your signal dead!?" Sorry. You've already tried dialing the cops. Phones not working for some reason.
>>
>>6470580
You should be always able to call the cops, it requires no cell service to call them, it makes no sense why you shouldn't be able to call them unless our security room (+door & any windows if there are any) somehow transmogrified into lead or some other metal that blocks signal.
Make it make sense!

We have a gun so if she does turn into a monster we can empty a full mag of .50 into her.

Well... you've got a gun... You breathe deep and... throw open the door to find... a girl. And not a horrible parrot monster or something. Phew!

???:"FUCKING HELL!"

Oh right, you're pointing a gun at her. Really close to her face.

???:"They're giving security guards in places like these fucking handcannons now!? ...Whatever, just let me inside, you loser!"

She lightly bats the gun away so it's no longer pointing at her, and steps inside.

???:"WELL!? Go protect me and shoot the shit out of those creeps!"

Eesh. She's annoying. Can't be more than like, 21... Definitely not normal office wear either- do casual Fridays really let you wear chokers? ...Nice tits.

You glance at the cameras... definitely 6 people... they're making their way up. Strangely, they seem to be completely avoiding the elevators- you guess that makes sense if they're sweeping the floors- but you're like... 90% sure there's nothing of real worth here besides the server racks on floor 18, and there's a bigass floor guide in the entrance that says "Server Room: 18th floor." and other horseshit, also listing stuff like "SECURITY ROOM: 17th Floor". Very hard to miss stuff, you're pretty sure anyone that's worked here has that shit memorized too.

Taking their sweet time... Only one of them seems to be really rifling through the desks for stuff.

You ask her what the hell she was doing here so late in the first place-

???:"I fell asleep at my desk while working, moron! Floor 10! Pay attention!"

Okay... but... Wouldn't you have noticed her when doing your rounds...?

???:"How the hell would I know why you missed me!? I feel asleep, woke up, realized the lights went off, and was like "fuck this shit, it's too damn creepy" so I turned the lights back on- and before you say some bullshit about "oh, why didn't you go home, hur-dur" I'm not using the subway at night, you shithead, and also, I have already tried calling the cops- this building must be fucking packed with lead!"

...Does this chick swear every time she speaks?

She steals your half drank coffee and chugs it.

???:"Shuddup, I had to run around on 6 goddamn floors looking for this room! I get to be thirsty!"

Right... Well... You guess that... in the end... this is 6 people- or one of 6 people stealing shit, and your job description is stopping them from stealing shit, so... Yeah. You check the cameras... they're on the 7th floor. They appear to be arguing about something...

>"Alright, just stay put. I'll lock the doors and-"

???:"Oh my god, you seriously ARE an idiot! If they fucking knock you out and steal your keys, they can still get in this room and do all sorts of terrible things to me! Gimmie the damn keys! If you want me to open the door, say... I don't know... "Terrible Deer Burgers" as a password. If I didn't know better, I'd say you were in cahoots!"

...You suppose that's... pretty fair, actually... But you don't want to give her all the keys. Seems like a bad idea.

You pry off the key meant for the security room and toss it to her.

???:"Good! Now, don't come back until they're dead or chased off!"

She slams the door.
...You're really trying to be understanding... but would it kill her to be a little bit nicer? Damn.

Well... You suppose that the best way to approach this is to slowly and carefully make your way down the main stairwell... taking care to not make too much noise...

And... You find them on the 9th floor. It's dark, and you obviously didn't have your flashlight on, so you can barely make heads or tails of what they look like... But at least one is carrying... a fucking crossbow. ...Who robs a place with a crossbow? You're pretty sure the rest of them are also holding weapons, minus the guy on the cameras that was looting...

Crossbow guy: "I said it LOOKED like it was the lights on the 8th floor!"
Looter: "Goddamnit, did no one actually bother counting!? We were out there freezing our asses off for over half a damn hour!"
Other Intruder:"I swear to God, I've had it up to HERE with you morons..."

Okay, with no connection, baton magically turning into deagle, girl out of nowhere and now a crossbow...It`s clear that building went into some weird alternative reality. Probably tropy. So if we are to behave like security guard we probably gonna get killed by this criminals. Let`s try being a movie hero, then by genre logic since there is 6 of them against only us, we absolutely should be able to dominate.
>Try to intimidate/pacify them by shooting weapons out of their hands. Yes, without lighting and with weapon we never shoot from before. It would totally work out.
