Try growing black or raspberries they grow like weeds with a little bit of care. Depending on if you get a thorned cultivar you can make an edible fence, but personally I would go thornless

You can't grow enough unless you have tons of land, eventually there will be a pest or blight that affects your crops and unless you carefully manage rotation or fertilize you will deplete the soil.

Time and effort. Slight startup/maintenance costs (think water). Space limitations. That's about it. We have a lemon tree at my house, and thinking of how much lemon juice, lemon slices, peel, all that shit we can get for the comparative price in stores, it's ridiculous savings.
