Last year I cried to God asking for a normal life and I got a job, this year I'm going to cry asking for a girlfriend. God is my friend.

Petitionary prayer, any prayer really, works if you have faith in God and you obey him Problem is that even the smallest fraction of a doubt cancels the entire thing out, I can't just ask God for something and expect it to appear. The only thing I feel like I can ask him for is Grace to overcome my animal and diabolical nature and try to conform to the good. My faith isn't advanced enough to ask him for something simple like food and then find food. I think you could get to that point though. If you really really love God and have an intimate connection to him.
