hello r9k! do you guys like shoot em ups? I really like the gradius games even though they are kinda bullshit, sin and punishment was rad.I want to try the touhou games but I don't know where to start, also those games don't seem to have cool ships which is part of the appeal for me but the girls are cute and the games look fun so I might try at least one of the games
>>84761830I like shmups conceptually but I'm not sweatlord (based) enough to really understand the genre the way a true connoisseur would.
>>84761830I am trying to post pictures from my trip to Japan to show how big a deal shmups are in Japan but whenever I try to attach an image it tells me that they ran out of memory and wipes my post.
>>84761870>raidenohh fuck I tried to beat those games last year, I gave up, they feel too impossible for me.gradius at least it feels like you have a chance and you do! you can beat those games (I beat the original arcade game) if you memorize the levels and have decent reflexes.what sucks is that extra lives don't matter because if you die just once you lose all your power ups and it's just impossible to recover 9 out of 10 times, the game is just unplayable once you lose your power ups.at least on easy mode you can use the konami code a few times to recover your power up.but there is nothing like a good shoot em up, I love shooting big ships while dodging millions of bullets, nothing compares
>>84761897Hiroshimajewsakimoto doesn't want waito piggu (latinx-coded and heckin valid btw) on 4oriegnchan to know about grorious nippon shmup coded 10,000x times>>84761902>I love shooting big ships while dodging millions of bullets, nothing comparesSimilar to what anon >>84761897 posted, I am old enough to have faint memories of shmup cabinets in arcades. The visceral feel of the joystick and big oversized buttons, the high fidelity bass-boosted audio, and the overall feeling of being in a dimly lit arcade with CRT radiation flickering from a dozen screens around you is a feeling you really can't replicate and the loss of that extra-sensory vitality as vidya moved permanently to the home market and catering to normies is ultimately what killed off the genre for good, sadly.
>>84761897oh that happens when you take too long to post an image, just try it again but fasterbut I do know how big of a deal shmups are in japan, I like how a lot of arcades have ash trays in japan lol tfw when I will never be a young man in japan chain smoking while I beat gradius 1 while I listen to some japanese 80s pop
>>84761939yeah I miss arcades so much, I fucking hate modern videogames so much desualso metal slug is awesome man those sprites are very detailed also those games are way way harder than contra
>>84761976FPS was just the better genre boomer
>>84761989I'm a zoomer though...I do like FPS games too if anything I'm complaining about all those shitty dark souls clones
>>84761958I miss Japan I want Tokyo to be my city.
