one of my pc fans keeps stopping, I tried cleaning it but it didn't help I need to replace it but I'm scared of fucking something up :(
>>
like, it's the fan that goes on the back of the case
>>
>>84762488
Watch a youtube video, it's very simple. Disconnect the fan, unscrew it, screw in the new one, connect it up. Make sure you unplug your computer before you do it. Make sure you buy the right fan.
Ask AI for help if you get stuck. You can take a picture, tell it what you're doing, and ask it if you're doing it right. I found that helpful recently when I was trying to plug in a hard drive and got confused. You can chat to AI about what you need to do as well. Maybe take a picture of the connector and ask if you need to buy a specific type of replacement fan or give it your PC case name and ask it what fan sizes it supports.
Don't worry you won't mess anything up. When you're done you'll see how easy it was and when something else needs replacing you'll be excited to learn how to do it.
>>
>>84762612
I see, hey what fan would you recommend? I'm new to this so I don't know what to get, I don't have a lot of money right now
>>
>>84762488
It's just a fucking fan? Unplug and plug the new one? Don't tell me you cleaned it without even unplugging it
>>
>>84762622
It depends what size your case supports. You can measure your current fan or look it up.
It also depends what your budget is, if you want it to be extra quiet, if you plan on keeping the pc for a long time, if you care about rgb, if there are any good sales going on, etc. you really need to research it for yourself based on your requirements
>>
>>84762488
my used to be like that but I put a little bit of some very light watery lube and it fixed it
>>
>>84762649
what lube did you use? maybe I should try that
>>84762646
no I didn't unplug the fan
>>84762647
I guess I could try getting another one like the one I already have
>>
>>84762673
>no I didn't unplug the fan
Do it it's probably just loose and not even broken
>>
>>84762712
yeah I guess I should actually try to clean it thoroughly first
>>
>>84762673
>maybe I should try that
idk some I had in my garage that looked watery and not sticky
At first I used a spray silicone lube and it worked well but it was too light and after a week or so the fan started snagging again
so then I decided to use the other lube
>>
>>84762488
Check the connection, a lot of times it's just unplugging and plugging again because the connection was a bit weak
>>
>>84762859
I will check that out, though I'm pretty sure it's just really dirty
>>
fuck it I'll just buy a new one
>>
>>84762488
Just take the case off and blow a box fan at it
>>
>>84763060
NO
you CAN fix it
IF it breaks then you should get a new one
>>
>>84763130
it's very very old but tell you what, once the new one gets here, I'll practice with this old fan so I won't do something like this in the future, I mean the fan wasn't that expensive desu
>>
>>84762488
new fans are like $10 or even less for the super cheapo chinesium ones. just make sure to get the right size. 80mm is pretty much the most common size for case fans.

then 4screws out, 4 screws in. even a foid can do it!
>>
>>84763178
yeah but my pc has liquid cooling, I don't know if it's going to be that easy
>>
>>84763262
it'll be fine you don't have to do anything with the liquid cooling most likely. if you're really worried post a pic of the inside of the case
>>
>>84763324
I'll post pictures, wait a sec

>>84763324
you see how there is 2 fans, one on the left and one on the right? the one on the left (the one at the back of the case basically) struggles to spin and sometimes it just stops because it's really dirty.

can I just replace one of the fans or do I have to replace the entire thing?
>>
>>84763391
oh wow you hardly see those things. crazy.

but yeah that's still pretty easy. what SHOULD happen is there are 4 screws on the back that hold the entire fan to the case. You'll have ot take those out, without dropping the cooler onto your other parts. take the new fan, put it in the same place, and tighten the screws

MAKE SURE the new fan is blowing OUT the back of the case, not blowing INTO the case. there's a little arrow that shows which way the fan blows, you can see it on the rightmost fan in the pic.

then swap the cables. pull out the tab for old fan, put new fan in the same place.

and that's it, should take 10m
>>
>>84763422
ah so I can just replace the fan on the back and replace it with any pc fan then?
oh thank you so much man!
fucking google wasn't being useful at all.
>>
>>84763443
>>84763443
>ah so I can just replace the fan on the back and replace it with any pc fan then?
yeah you should be able to no problem, as long as the new fan is the same size. that way you can upgrade the fans to faster ones, or quieter ones, or rbg ones or whatever.

best of luck, should be pretty easy
>>
>>84763463
once again thank you very very much, also I would like a fan without rgb lights lol, this one has lights but I have them off all the time
>>
>>84763391
miiight be worth it to just replace both fans while you're at it? if the one died the other might not be far behind

I personally like "beQuiet" brand fans but anything is pretty much fine
>>
>>84763478
yeah depending on the price (they are not very expensive)
I'll buy 2 or 3 just to have a spare one lying around
>>
a friend of my brother told me to just replace the whole thing because it's really old, fuck now I don't know what to do, I mean it wouldn't be too expensive
>>
>>84763669
it's harder to replace it all, you'd probably have to get behind the case and remove the screws holding the cooler onto the CPU. is it hard hard? no. but there's a lot more fiddling involved.

so really ask yourself if you think you're gonna keep this PC for a few more years, then sure maybe a new cooler is a good idea. Air and waterblocks like you have are both fine these days. but if you're gonna upgrade the PC soonish, just throw another fan in it and call it a day
>>
>>84763688
I don't think I'll be upgrading my pc soon, maybe I should, this pc has been giving me a lot of problems, maybe it's because I need to replace the fans and maybe the thermal paste but idk.
>>
>>84763700
hmm well the small waterblock coolers like you have aren't especially great. they're actually worse than an air cooler like this:

https://www.amazon.com/quiet-Black-Cooler-Performance-Technology/dp/B0DWZ2JPTF?crid=1HTY8DOTUAW6A&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.5ulWyZXFXQ6LSQLvGzy0gaZUxLm3e6loogurq0dwlgBc48YRwE5HfehNGuhn5dg8rpJnmRzfBwf3o0vgIi_lONC8QVlmhRkKZdG1feZx6PmR1p7eQ289Q1Zu7751SvdlwVPxCPsVRhUc90xedD9XOiVvIBh8GTw5WWz9NUZ1VXbYCbR5BWEjOUW4z4B9FfrCqM_AzwWBPE4IM0BC22-wYmKQ0EVHNhbADs2mJPIBcqc.SWXktm31AqIEtt1r1le14XfEKPhaHCY9xfWv1eGnVhU&dib_tag=se&keywords=bequiet%2Bcpu%2Bcoolers&qid=1780868567&sprefix=bequiet%2Caps%2C249&sr=8-7&th=1

for $40 or so you could throw that in and see if the problems are fixed. it'll have new thermal paste, so if it's heat or thermal paste, both of those will be checked off the list and you know that isn't the issue.
>>
>>84762612
>Ask AI for help if you get stuck
lol lmao. AI will just as likely tell him something that will fry the PC.
>>
>>84763745
>hmm well the small waterblock coolers like you have aren't especially great. they're actually worse than an air cooler like this:
yeah I figured, plus the one I have is really old.
I doubt is working properly anymore, and the fan getting stuck is not doing it any favors.

thanks for the suggestion anon, yeah I think I will replace the whole thing and switch to regular air cooling
>>
>>84763765
if you get a new CPU cooler, make sure to dust the whole thing out too. you're gonna have ot get into the wires behind the case and open up both sides so get all that shit outta there before you work on it.

you'll need some 90% isoprophyl alcohol and ideally a coffee filter to get the old thermal paste off the CPU. Coffee filter doesn't leave stranded fibers behind, but really any cloth works with the isoprophyl.

then I'd take one of the fans on your old CPU cooler, and put it blowing out the back of the case in the same spot it is now.
>>
>>84763745
hey what's the difference with this and the pure rock slim 3?
is it just smaller?
>>84763792
I'll take a screenshot of this so I don't forget
>>
>>84763816
>and the pure rock slim 3?
this one is a bit cheaper, only has 3 heatpipes so doesn't pull as much heat up to the fans. which is fine it'll still do a good job, just not on high end CPUS

WHICH brings up another point. CPU's have different socket types, and while MOST fans have universal mounting brackets, you need ot figure out what CPU you have to make sure the fan fits!
>>
>>84763848
my cpu is an amd ryzen 5 1600
>>
>>84763869
https://pcpartpicker.com/products/cpu-cooler/#sort=-rating&c=33

pick something off that list, they'll all fit
>>
>>84763899
I see, but the pure rock slim 3 will fit as well right? my budget is very limited that's why I want that one
>>
>>84763924
>Yes, the be quiet! Pure Rock Slim 3 is compatible with the Ryzen 1600. Your CPU uses the AM4 socket, and this cooler explicitly supports AM4 (as well as AM5 and Intel LGA 1700/1851).
The 130W TDP rating is more than sufficient for the Ryzen 1600, and customers report it keeps CPUs cool and quiet with easy installation.

seems so
>>
>>84763940
nice, it seems that I will still need to buy a fan for the case though
>>
>>84763966
cheap method: recycle a fan off your old CPU cooler

or

spend $10 on a new fan. both are fine.
>>
>>84763990
could I use the one that's still working if I just flip it?

I could just buy another one too
