Kinda crazy to think Runescape has a growing player base and is breaking all time high player counts constantly. I bet a huge portion of the player base were born after the game's release at this point. Its like they perfected the MMO experience and no one has been able to replicate it.

The most entertaining thing is Andrew Gower didnt really know what he was making. He just programmed the game that made the m ost logical sense in gaining XP and reaching levels but he only really planned for people to get to level 40ish initially, a task that takes like half a day. He inadvertently made a system that seems boring at first but is hyper addictive in the form of a skinner box that slowly dispenses dopamine whilst feeling like you are achieving progress. Its a great game and its held up
