i dated a guy for 2 years despite us not agreeing on literally anything politically.one of our first conversations turned political and he was shamelessly honest about his views, but still respectful. it felt like we truly just wanted to understand one another. we lost that respect somewhere along the way tho. and some other factors werent helping, so we broke up.i tried moving on but just never felt genuinely interested in anyone the way i was with him. he would text me occasionally. most of the time it was just schizo racist rants, but around christmas time he sent me a very very long apology for all the psycho crazy shit he did when we were together, and just wished me the best. he attached a bunch of pictures of these houses in his neighborhood that i used to constantly swoon over..with all their christmas decorations out and everything. idk, it was really sweet.i thought about it for months after, and finally.. after saying literally nothing to him for over a year, i texted him. we hung out the next night, and it felt very bittersweet..like i was breaking my sobriety or something lol. and we kinda just fell into each other again.it didnt last tho. hes diagnosed schizotypal, and no matter how good we were doing, he would just blow up sometimes.he later admitted that he had followed me a few times when we werent talking, and parked outside my house for hours some nights. idk, im a little screwed up too so part of me was into it at first. but it eventually turned into real fear and extreme anxiety. that was the true end of it.our political differences honestly felt kind of minor compared to everything else that happened between us. so ya, id probably do it again. ive become pretty disillusioned with politics in general now anyway.

I don't really want to date anyone all that into politics in general, it screams loser to me. I have my own opinions about what's best for society like anyone else, and I definitely do have political opinions/am an artist that makes pretty explicitly "political" work a lot of the times, but I feel that imposing political ideas institutionally or being obsessively invested in managing or controlling others is inherently kind of retarded and is a lot like chasing your own tail. The only real politics come in the form of individual action, what YOU actually do. Anything else is submission or control. Most people here would probably define me as very lefty but actual leftists would probably call me a chud if they knew my true thoughts on a lot of issues, and centrists would absolutely think a lot of my opinions are very extreme. I like other people who are a blend and make up their own minds without caring much what others think or feel. Most of all, I just think institutional politics are downstream of culture and really most "political change" happens via the unconscious nature of the times and what people actually occupy their minds with and do. Any political system is a mass hallucination and most "happenings" in politics are just the result of the actions and thoughts of a pretty limited pool of very willful people. To truly "care" about politics or to identify with them is essentially to be an intellectual/social/psychological bottom feeder, in my eyes.So I guess no, in that way I kind of wouldn't - even though I would date someone who has very different ideals and strong opinions as far as what society should look like and how it should work. The big thing is just whether or not they actually identify with it.
