It won't change to the next version unless you change your suite name in the repo sources files. The only real different is using apt over pacman.

I was using Ubuntu 16.04 until its support ended a few months ago. If you hate upgrading and don't mind snaps, Ubuntu is the way. Shit on them all you like but they have good long-term support.
