I say D&D but it's really a homebrew tabletop system that I made up to simplify it. So far two other people have picked it up so uh... I guess it works.

Some of us are ex mil, we're all a little weird. Lots of shared traumas and edgy humor. Campaigns are generally full of writing that encompasses both.

Absolutely not. Slurs, traumatic events, and emotionally charged topics are all part of both the humor and narrative. My goal as a DM has always been to make the players feel something. Power, grief, humor, anger, helplessness, disgust, etc are all tools I am happy to employ and everyone is briefed that by playing they are buying into all of it and if they can't handle it they are expected not to become a part of the campaign.
