Apparently you're still considered mentally ill regardless of why the symptoms presented themselves. So if your life is just trash and you have symptoms of "depression" as a direct result of that, you are still considered mentally ill. The cause of your symptoms was completely outside yourself and outside of your control, and they still make it sound as though the problem lies within you

I don't think I'm mentally ill, no. When I struggled with teen angst I tried the therapy thing and I never found anything insightful about it and never received a diagnosis aside from a tepid "perfectionist" label. I've had others accuse me of being crazy or off balance for not being agreeable enough for them, though. People get really angry when your appearance doesn't match up with how they want you to act. So instead of getting the result they want from me their reality is challenged and instead of adjusting they try to hammer me down when I've already dropped the rope. I've just been through a lot of bad luck situations that gave me a low tolerance for bullcrap. I still care about my family and my lover I'm just not desperate
