Have any of you ever decided to just not use your advanced degree (MS+)?

If so would you recommend it?

This is not a decision, this is a material reality. If you obtain a useless advanced degree it will have no use. If you obtain a useful advanced degree you will be actively sought out.

I'm talking about if you have a useful and sought after degree, and it's your choice to not pursue the field

You're going to be hard-pressed to find someone like that. When recruiters and colleagues are breathing down your neck asking you to join their company its hard to decline that kind of money. Only people who have to take care of family, go on spiritual journeys or start some hobby would do that, and you're more likely to find them on larger social media websites.
