That piracy discussion debacle that happened on Twitter between japanese people and westerners left a sour taste in my mouth.

I don't use piracy very often, I like owning my games but I will still defend piracy, specially when the games being pirated werent even released in the west.
Fucking nips are even against simple english translation modding and say that if you want to play the game then you should learn Japanese and buy the japanese copy.
What a bunch of delusional assholes.

Attention everyone, this poster is Brazilian, disregard whatever he writes
>>
major upside of piracy is media preservation
a lot of shit would be just lost to sands of time if it wasn't available through unofficial channels
we literally can't even trust the rights holders themselves to preserve it

JP is so rule-cucked its insane. they frequently complain about non-issues on twitter. i saw someone say that charging a phone using a public outlet is "power theft"

My thoughts on piracy: If you don't mind installing spyware from a literal who, or get your account randomly stolen, in exchange to play games for free, piracy is good.

There is a law in Japan where you can be charged for "stealing" electricity.
I'm not joking.

There's a huge amount of obscure and retro anime that are virtually impossible to access via legitimate means. Piracy is an integral part of the preservation of art and media.

It's OK to make something and be proud of it enough to ask people give you money for just a copy of it, but it's insane to expect to make a drawing then insist it's worth (price)x(global population). The archivists arguably are doing the world a better favor because it's a passion and labor of love. Most anime, books, whatever are created in the first place by a profit motive. Copyright laws should come with mandatory duty to preserve as well instead of this have your cake and eat it too. The idea of rare books is offensive. Just because it's 50 years old and only got one or two printings it's $350? But it's illegal to download a copy and I could get sued? These lawsuits and fines are often four and five figures too. Imagine a greedy piece of shit who's grandfather wrote a book demanding ($x,xxx to $xx,xxx)*(global population) but they refuse to pay to run a new printing of just 100,000 copies or a new edition. At most that's like $500,000. They absolutely should be made to pay this much in order to maintain copyright, and if a media is deemed to be unavailable in physical form new whether that's book or optical disk format it should immediately be made public domain. Yidsney is notorious for this, going years between printing dvds of an old movie they made. How can you claim ownership of something you refuse to sell? Drm in any form is malware and should be illegal too. It's explicitly designed and implemented for no other reason but to make it harder to enjoy a product someone purchased.

That's the law everywhere, theft is theft. Phones don't matter, but it's not uncommon for people to tap their neighbors' power or water. If it's metered somebody has to pay for it.
