That's a nonsensical comparison. Anime is just a type of TV show (and a handful of movies that are basically all bad). There's a reason you have to spend millions to get a Superbowl commerical compared to an ad on Crunchyroll. It'd make more sense to compare like, how many people watched Attack on Titan all the way through, to how many people followed the NFL. The nice part about sports is you don't even have to watch it for the most part. You can just see the highlights and read the final scores and some shit. You only have to watch the few final games (sometimes just the final game) that is the most exciting. Sportsball will have infinitely more cultural relevance than anime for many decades at least.

I used to not care about sportsball. Then I saw a government document about local "needs" for full-size football fields across my city. They want to put one damn near every other neighbourhood. Then I saw a huge piece of forest get completely clearcut to fit a football field with amenities, equipped with floodlights that don't turn off all night, completely ruining the entire area permanently.
