I've discovered that once you let used clothes sit without using them for long enough they don't smell like anything anymore and you can use them again without washing them. I've rotated my clothes like this for the past 8 months because I'm too lazy to use the washing machine.
you can also put them in the freezer while damp then hang them in the sun. the combination of ice crystals and uv absolutely obliterates any bacteria that cause odor.

Underwear should be washed obviously. But something like a hoodie which you're only wearing in the cold and with a base layer underneath should never really need to be washed.

I am finnish living in coastal greece. I definitely wash my clothes ten times more than at home. So it really depends on the climate.
