I can't talk to my parents about anything serious without feeling like I'm going to cry

What is serious that you feel the need to talk to them about

Common in households who either never confront each other during formative years, or those who suffered emotional abuse.
For me? My entire family were avoidant in terms of conflict resolution, so no one ever talked seriously about important stuff. Everyone ignored the elephant in the room and hoped it would just go away, out of sight and out of mind. I adopted those avoidant personality traits and now that I need to talk about of end of life stuff with them, or be real about their health decline, I cry. When I talk to my therapist, I cry immediately
