Why did our dress get worse as it became cheaper to make clothes? Shouldn't we be dressing better than ever? I really don't understand why our dress devolved.

Living in a country where it regularly gets over 40 degrees, I don't know how people wore suits and stuff. Seems horrible.

Cheaper materials were developed alongside automation of production. And there's less motivation to value durability when replacement is cheap. Why repair an expensive jacket when you can buy another cheap one? Why repair at all? Repairwork remains almost as labor intensive as it ever was, unlike new production.

People never wanted to spend a lot of money on clothing. The wealthy wanted to spend more relative to the poor, but very few people really give a damn about clothing itself, rather they care about social positioning of it. So as poorer clothing became available to the poor, the rich needed less to stand out.

Lastly, the reduction of manual labor, mechanization of travel, and climate control, all reduced demands on clothing. The average person does not need clothing that resists abrasion and tearing while working in the fields on a farm, they do not need to be prepared for a change to inclement weather, they do not expect to be outdoors for extended periods of time without the option of taking shelter.

First off, the tech guys have their own fashion that's deliberately more plain than typical.

Secondly, Zuck is wearing a custom graphic tee he had made for himself, to distinguish himself from the others.
