Not really. They do it for other women however, not for men. Its like endless male dick size competition, but women compete in their esthetic sense, not bodies.
We do it because it both makes us feel good and everyone treats us better when we do and worse when we don't. It creates a feedback loop that puts pressure on you to always do it
