I mean, what kind of men? Just any person, who happens to be a man? If your only qualifier for committing murder is to hit a certain demographic, it seems terrifyingly easy. If you stay off of cameras, establish an alibi, leave your smartphone at home, swap your plates, and then just drive around stretches of lonely highway/FM/back roads far away from home long enough, you'll eventually encounter somebody else traveling alone who fits the bill and is both accessible to you, and adequately isolated for you to easily dispose of. If you do it quickly and immediately go home, even with modern surveillance tech, solving that murder would be hard due to lack of motive or information connecting you to the victim.This is how many serial killers operated in the old days before mass surveillance, but they often did weird sex stuff before/after, and the longer it takes you to do this, the more surveillance comes into play as a factor, so if you want to be a freak about it (more so than committing random murders already makes you a freak), that option's out. In the age of the panopticon, your window's a lot smaller, but the window is still there. There are still unsolved murders that happen in 2026.The problem with all this? Basically nobody has the combination of raw, animalistic bloodlust and intellectual competence to do this, because it's self-defeating. If you're this violent, you're probably already under lock and key or have other limitations on your movement, and if you're that cold and calculating, you probably also understand there's no point in just killing random people, even if you consider each one killed a "service to humanity" or whatever. This is why there aren't a lot of murders that go down like this; 99.9% of the time, there needs to be a coherent personal motive, and that's what gives people away.Of course, the book is titled to provoke a response like what I just wrote out, and I'm sure there's an actual overarching message behind it, right?
