Uni is at its core just a piece of paper, and has been heavily reliant on online/outdated content since online COVID years. However, depending on your field, uni/trade school gives you a routine and an environment full of connections and internships. Employment is always competitive in any field nowadays, so you do need an edge on your competition.From my engineering perspective, if youre going into something technical I recommend joining student teams (formula student, rocketry, drones etc), or working on personal projects (software, raspberry pi, CAD etc.). For healthcare, try volunteer at your local aged care home. There are often lab technician listings for students if youre studying chem/bio. Join the maths olympiad if youre studying maths. Write dumb journal papers that will probably get rejected. Anything that shows you try will help. The quality of uni is shit most of the time, but the actual classes are only half of the experience. There are a lot of opportunities you otherwise would not have if you werent a student, so take those into consideration too.
