Thread for musicians to share their music and talk about music creation. Beat makers, instrumentalists, singers, composers, and music fans all welcome!

Thread question: What artists have been influencing your tastes as of late? For me, I've been listening to a lot of Morricone. A lot of his film scores are really driving the musical inspiration of a story I'm working on.

My influences for my producing process have stayed the same: Teddy Riley and Denys Parker. I try to find new stuff to listen to, but outside of watching film noir, lacking any social group this whole decade has killed any excitement I might get from taking in anything new. You have experiences to share them after all.

Morricone is a good one: the 70s is in vogue for our grungy time of economic decline and political corruption. If only NYC was as cheap now as it was then.

The likes of Anna Hogberg, Fire! and Fog, all of which are free jazz. Also some field recording artists such as Anne F Jacques and Jeph Jerman, and maybe we can put Tim Olive in there too.
I've also recently discovered a noise artist that likes to make specific textures and upload them looping for 35 minutes. My music taste fits my influence because I'm largely into the texture of sounds.

Sample CDs are a godsend. There are some old Zero-G ones I wish I could get but the disc images floating on the net are corrupted, and my laptop does not even have a disc drive. Their use by Akira Yamaoka lead me to them.

Wow-whee. An -actual- musician to deign us with their presence. All 3 of the geese in attendance honk their saluations,

Okay, Mr. Real Music Man Tee-Em, what do you play and where have you performed?

Okay actual musician, what do you play? Share a vocaroo of your work

I wrote a wall of text about this in the last thread hosted by HBW. In short, a performer whose work deals with either the music business or some greater musical tradition still has in common with the "beatmaker" all the technology involved with recording and mastering those performances. Both are helped by songwriting, composition, and theory knowledge a great deal, too.

I don't really remember. They probably just called me a pseudointellectual or something. You can find the post on the archives and make your own judgement. Someone else found the post before when I told them
